We report here a case of a young girl with pancreatitis and pancreatic fat necrosis (PFN). This condition is rare in the pediatric age group, and its etiopathogenesis is different from disease in adults. Whereas PFN in adults typically results from pancreatitis secondary to pancreatic duct obstruction, alcohol abuse, and pancreatic adenocarcinoma, in children it appears to arise in a setting of systemic disease, often involving a genetic disorder.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the radiographic appearance of subclinical calcified brown fat necrosis and the associated clinical and laboratory findings.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Picture Archiving and Communications Sytem (PACS) was searched using keywords "soft tissue calcification" and "chest." The microscopical features of 18 samples of fat necrosis and/or fibrous tissue removed from the abdominal cavity during laparotomy from 15 cows were studied. Subcutaneous fat necrosis (SCFN) of the newborn is an uncommon dermatologic disorder characterized by firm, palpable subcutaneous nodules or plaques with or without erythema. Subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn (SCFN) is a panniculitis that develops in fatty areas during the first weeks of life after foetal distress or perinatal complications. Prognosis is generally good with complete regression, but it can be complicated by metabolic abnormalities like hypoglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, thrombocytopenia, and also potentially life-threatening hypercalcemia. We report a case of severe hypercalcemia complicating SCFN in a newborn who was treated with hyperhydration, furosemide, prednisone, and pamidronate.

In some patients with avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH), an area of signal intensity similar to that of subcutaneous fat tissue is found within or proximal to the hypointense zone of spin echo MR images. We refer to these MR findings as the "fat intensity" sign. This fat intensity sign was positive in 62 (47%) of 133 MR examinations of femoral heads with radiographically proven ANFH; this sign was negative in all hips with other diseases including degenerative joint disease, transient osteoporosis, rapidly destructive coxoarthrosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

PURPOSE: Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) is the most common presentation of mucormycosis. Sinonasal-orbital debridement with exenteration is a life-saving procedure in ROCM patients in view of severe involvement of sinuses and the eyeball. Following the second wave of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there was a massive surge in mucormycosis cases in India in post-COVID-19 patients. Of over 300 cases of mucormycosis admitted in our hospital, many underwent exenteration and these specimens were evaluated histopathologically, where fat necrosis was found to be a prominent finding.
