Angio-microRNAs in diabetic foot ulcer-: Mechanistic insights and clinical perspectives.

Diabetic foot ulcers, as one of the chronic wounds, are a serious challenge in the global healthcare system which have shown notable growth in recent years. DFU is associated with impairment in various stages of wound healing, including angiogenesis. Aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) involved in the disruption of the balance between angiogenic and anti-angiogenic factors, plays a crucial role in angiogenesis dysfunction. Alteration in the expression of angiomiRNAs (angiomiRs) have the potential to function as biomarkers in chronic wounds. Additionally, considering the rising importance

Microenvironment-responsive, multimodulated herbal polysaccharide hydrogel for diabetic foot ulcer healing.

Diabetic ulcers (DUs) usually suffer from severe infections, persistent inflammation, and excessive oxidative stress during the healing process, which led to the microenvironmental alternation and severely impede DU healing, resulting in a delayed wound healing. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop a medical dressing that can address these problems simultaneously. To this end, self-healing composite hydrogels were prepared in this study utilizing Bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) and Berberine (BER) with borax via borate ester bond. The chemical and mechanical properties of t

Platelet-Rich Plasma in Diabetic Foot Ulcer Healing: Contemplating the Facts.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), debilitating complication of diabetes, often lead to amputation even in the presence of current advanced treatment for DFUs. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) containing growth factors and other proteins has been suggested as a potent therapeutic in promoting DFU healing. PRP is safe and effective in improving the DFU healing rate, decreasing healing time, and making chronic wounds viable for treatment. Though PRP is safe and effective in promoting DFU healing, there are inconsistencies in clinical outcomes. These varying results may be due to various concentrations of PR

Social Deprivation, Healthcare Access and Diabetic Foot Ulcer: A Narrative Review.

The diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common and serious complication of diabetes. There is also a strong relationship between the environment of the person living with a DFU and the prognosis of the wound. Financial insecurity seems to have a major impact, but this effect can be moderated by social protection systems. Socioeconomic and socio-educational deprivations seem to have a more complex relationship with DFU risk and prognosis. The area of residence is a common scale of analysis for DFU as it highlights the effect of access to care. Yet it is important to understand other levels of analys

Misdiagnosis of diabetic foot ulcer in patients with undiagnosed skin malignancies.

A growing number of studies report dermal malignancies mimicking diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). We reviewed clinical cases reporting malignant tumours misdiagnosed to be DFU aiming to identify factors contributing to misdiagnosis. We systematically searched in PubMed for clinical cases reporting on misdiagnosis of DFU in patients with cancer. A chi-square analysis was conducted to show the link between the incidence of initial DFU misdiagnosis and patient age, gender and wound duration. Lesions misdiagnosed to be DFU were subsequently diagnosed as melanoma (68% of the cases), Kaposi's sarcoma (1
