1H NMR metabolomics analysis of oil palm stem tissue infected by Ganoderma boninense based on field severity Indices.

Basal stem rot disease (BSR) caused by G. boninense affects most oil palm plants in Southeast Asia. This disease can be fatal to palm oil production. BSR shows no signs on the tree in the early stages of infection. Therefore, it is essential to find an approach that can detect BSR disease in oil palm, especially at any level of disease severity in the field. This study aims to identify biomarkers of BSR disease in oil palm stem tissue based on various disease severity indices in the field using 1H NMR-based metabolomics analysis. The crude extract of oil palm stem tissue with four disease seve

Characterisation and Hypolipidaemic Effects of Tlayudas, Widely Consumed Tortillas, Containing Ganoderma lucidum Extracts on an In Vivo Model of Hypercholesterolaemia.

Tlayudas, a variant of tortillas, are a highly consumed and low-cost traditional Mexican food, typical of the Oaxaca region. We developed new functional food products from tlayudas (T) containing standardised hydroalcoholic extracts (T + Gl-1 and T + Gl-2) of the medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucidum (Gl) from Mexico. These products were characterised through physicochemical and sensory properties, analysis of bioactive compounds and hypolipidaemic capacity using an in vivo model (C57BL/6 mice) of hypercholesterolaemia. Tlayudas containing Gl extracts are more resistant (higher cutting force) a

Chemical analysis and antitubercular activity evaluation of the dried mycelial powders of the basidiomycete Ganoderma australe TBRC-BCC 22314.

The isolation of lanostane triterpenoids possessing significant anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) activity from mycelial cultures of the basidiomycete Ganoderma australe strain TBRC-BCC 22314 was previously reported. To demonstrate the potential of the dried mycelial powder for utilization in anti-TB medicinal products, its authentic chemical analysis was performed. Considering the possibility of the changes in the lanostane compositions and anti-TB activity by sterilization, both autoclave treated and non-autoclaved mycelial powder materials were chemically investigated. The study led to the identi

Ganoderma Lucidum induces oxidative DNA damage and enhances the effect of 5-Fluorouracil in colorectal cancer in vitro and in vivo.

The first-line chemotherapy of colorectal cancer (CRC), besides surgery, comprises administration of 5-Fluorouracil (5FU). Apart from cytotoxic effect on cancer cells, 5FU may also cause adverse side effects. Ganoderma Lucidum (GLC) is a mushroom used in Traditional Eastern Medicine. We propose that natural compounds, particularly GLC extracts, may sensitize cancer cells to conventional chemotherapeutics. This combination therapy could lead to more selective cancer cell death and may improve the response to the therapy and diminish the adverse effects of anticancer drugs. Here we demonstrate t

Flavor and metabolite responses of Ganoderma lucidum to different drying methods: integrated electronic sensing, volatilomics, and metabolomics analysis.

This study systematically investigated the effects of four drying methods, freeze vacuum drying (FD), microwave vacuum drying (MVD), hot air drying (HD), and natural drying (ND), on the flavor profile and metabolite composition of Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum). FD appears to best preserve natural color, thermolabile flavor compounds, and bioactive constituents, resulting in a flavor profile most similar to that of fresh samples. HD significantly altered the profile of volatile compounds, and the marked increase in 5'-IMP likely contributed to the enhanced umami intensity. Integrated correlati

Heat stress-induced degradation of glutamine synthetase rebalances central carbon-nitrogen metabolism and promotes thermotolerance in Ganoderma lucidum.

UNLABELLED: Thermotolerance is fundamental to fungal ecology and survival. Although heat stress triggers extensive metabolic reprogramming, the function of these changes for thermotolerance has remained poorly understood. Here, we identify glutamine synthetase (GS), a central nitrogen metabolism enzyme, as a critical determinant of thermotolerance in Ganoderma lucidum. Silencing of gs significantly enhanced fungal tolerance under heat stress and reduced the relative inhibition rate of mycelial growth to 9.71%, compared with 20.7% in the wild-type (WT) strain. Heat stress also increased reactiv

Suppression of obesity and inflammation by polysaccharide from sporoderm-broken spore of Ganoderma lucidum via gut microbiota regulation.

Ganoderma lucidum has been shown to have anti-obesity effects. However, polysaccharide extracted from the sporoderm-broken spores of Ganoderma lucidum (BSGLP) against obesity and its underlying mechanisms have never been reported. In the current study, we showed that BSGLP inhibited high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity, hyperlipidemia, inflammation, and fat accumulation in C57BL/6 J mice. BSGLP improved HFD-induced gut microbiota dysbiosis, maintained intestinal barrier function, increased short-chain fatty acids production and GPR43 expression, ameliorated endotoxemia, manifested by reduced se
