Value of Artificial Intelligence for Enhancing Suspicion of Cardiac Amyloidosis Using Electrocardiography and Echocardiography: A Narrative Review.

Nonspecific symptoms and other diagnostic challenges lead to underdiagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis (CA). Artificial intelligence (AI) could help address these challenges, but a summary of the performance of these tools is lacking. This narrative review of published literature describes the performance of AI tools that use data from ECGs and echocardiography to improve identification of CA and challenges that hinder adoption of these tools. Thirteen studies met inclusion criteria with sample sizes ranging from 50 to 2451 patients. Four studies used ECG data, 8 used echocardiography data, and 1

Preparing for the Era of Multiple Primary Cancers: A Prevention-Centered Model for Survivorship Medicine.

The number of cancer survivors is increasing rapidly, and the development of multiple primary cancers (MPCs) is becoming a foreseeable consequence of long-term survival. However, MPC detection remains fragmented. Clinical information is often scattered across institutions, and long-term follow-up is not always consistent. Early warning signs that appear outside oncology settings are also not always linked to a patient's prior cancer history. As the number of cancer survivors increases, these gaps can have important clinical consequences. This Perspective presents a prevention-centered framewor

A pragmatic, stepped-wedge, hybrid type II trial of interoperable clinical decision support to improve venous thromboembolism prophylaxis for patients with traumatic brain injury.

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a preventable medical condition which has substantial impact on patient morbidity, mortality, and disability. Unfortunately, adherence to the published best practices for VTE prevention, based on patient centered outcomes research (PCOR), is highly variable across U.S. hospitals, which represents a gap between current evidence and clinical practice leading to adverse patient outcomes. This gap is especially large in the case of traumatic brain injury (TBI), where reluctance to initiate VTE prevention due to concerns for potentially increasing the rat

Transdiagnostic Assessment of Mental Health and Sleep Registry: Protocol for a Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders impose a substantial burden on individuals and society that cannot be fully captured by diagnostic labels or clinial indicators alone. Accordingly, the need for approaches that comprehensively assess patients' subjective experiences and daily functioning is growing. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) enable multidimensional assessment from the patient's perspective and are increasingly important in mental health research. However, prior studies have frequently assessed these domains in isolation using different instruments and assessment schedules, limiting individua

Investigating Strategies for Sustaining Modern Health Information Systems for Enhanced Care Delivery in Fragile Resource-Constrained Settings Through Electronic Medical Record Implementation in Haiti: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Robust and reliable health information systems (HISs) are foundational to equitable health care delivery in resource-constrained settings. Yet, HISs often exhibit significant fragmentation and complexity, which stem from many factors, including inadequate infrastructure, limited and unevenly allocated financial resources, expertise gaps, and a lack of integrated systems. At the same time, advances in modern HISs and digital technologies, such as electronic medical records (EMRs), present opportunities for addressing these limitations and supporting evidence-based health systems if

Diabetes Technology in the Primary Care Setting: An American Diabetes Association Scientific Statement.

Most diabetes care is delivered in primary care, yet diabetes technologies remain inconsistently integrated. Workforce, training, time, data infrastructure, and insurance barriers contribute to inequitable access and adoption. This scientific statement provides evidence-informed recommendations for integrating diabetes technology into primary care practices. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) convened an interdisciplinary panel that met in person at the Diabetes Technology Meeting in October 2025. Panelists reviewed available evidence, published between 2020 and 2025, on diabetes technolo

Improving clinical research through better use of clinical trial registry data.

Clinical trials are crucial for evidence generation on medicines. As of June, 2025, the European Union's (EU) clinical trial registries (Clinical Trial Information System and European Clinical Trial Register) housed data on nearly 55 000 clinical trials. The full potential of these data, especially when integrated with other sources such as real-world data, has remained mostly untapped for wider health-care innovation. In this Viewpoint, we report on the outcomes of an exploratory workshop with key stakeholders from across clinical research, held in Jan 25 and 26, 2024 under the Accelerating C

Comparative effectiveness research, genomics-enabled personalized medicine, and rapid learning health care: a common bond.

Despite stunning advances in our understanding of the genetics and the molecular basis for cancer, many patients with cancer are not yet receiving therapy tailored specifically to their tumor biology. The translation of these advances into clinical practice has been hindered, in part, by the lack of evidence for biomarkers supporting the personalized medicine approach. Most stakeholders agree that the translation of biomarkers into clinical care requires evidence of clinical utility. The highest level of evidence comes from randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs). However, in many instanc

Trustworthy large language models for clinical diagnosis: a medical informatics review of evidence, safety, validation, and deployment readiness.

BACKGROUND: Large language models (LLMs) and multimodal foundation models are increasingly proposed for diagnostic decision support, symptom triage, report interpretation, and electronic health record (EHR)-grounded workflows. Because medical informatics is concerned with how information and communication technologies behave inside clinical practice, workflow evaluation and deployment readiness are central rather than optional. OBJECTIVE: To synthesise diagnostic LLM evidence through a medical-informatics lens and to propose a stage-gated framework, with an accompanying self-assessment instru

KG-Microbe: Building modular and scalable knowledge graphs for microbiome and microbial sciences.

BACKGROUND: The integration of many disparate forms of data is essential for understanding the microbial world and its interaction with the environment and human health. Doing so is particularly challenging in the context of microbe-host and microbe-microbe interactions that contribute to health or environmental outcomes. There are thousands of relevant microbial species, and millions of interactions among those microbes and with their environment or host. Integrated information (e.g., about host and microbial physiology, genetics, and metabolism) facilitates deeper understanding of complex me

CTD Anatomy: analyzing chemical-induced phenotypes and exposures from an anatomical perspective, with implications for environmental health studies.

The Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD) is a freely available public resource that curates and interrelates chemical, gene/protein, phenotype, disease, organism, and exposure data. CTD can be used to address toxicological mechanisms for environmental chemicals and facilitate the generation of testable hypotheses about how exposures affect human health. At CTD, manually curated interactions for chemical-induced phenotypes are enhanced with anatomy terms (tissues, fluids, and cell types) to describe the physiological system of the reported event. These same anatomy terms are used to annota

Development and Validation of Human-AI Collaborative Workflow in SNOMED CT Mapping of Bilingual Clinical Text.

Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terminology (SNOMED CT) is the principal international standard for semantic interoperability of clinical information, but mapping free-text clinical narratives to SNOMED CT concepts remains labor-intensive. We developed a large language model agent system for mapping bilingual clinical text to SNOMED CT concepts and evaluated its effect on mapping accuracy and efficiency within a human-AI collaborative workflow. We designed a three-module agent system comprising translation, abbreviation expansion, and vector-based retrieval components, integrate
