Quantitative Ethylene Measurements with MOx Chemiresistive Sensors at Different Relative Air Humidities.

The sensitivity of two commercial metal oxide (MOx) sensors to ethylene is tested at different relative humidities. One sensor (MiCS-5914) is based on tungsten oxide, the other (MQ-3) on tin oxide. Both sensors were found to be sensitive to ethylene concentrations down to 10 ppm. Both sensors have significant response times; however, the tungsten sensor is the faster one. Sensor models are developed that predict the concentration of ethylene given the sensor output and the relative humidity. The MQ-3 sensor model achieves an accuracy of ±9.2 ppm and the MiCS-5914 sensor model predicts concentr

Effects of acute supplementation of Panax ginseng on endurance running in a hot & humid environment.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Athletes in Malaysia need to perform in a hot and humid environment due to the climatic nature of the country. Chronic supplementation of Panax ginseng (PG) (a deciduous perennial plant belonging to the Araliaceae family) enhances physical performance. As the ergogenic effect of acute supplementation of PG on endurance performance has not been explored in the Malaysian population especially in a hot and humid condition this study was taken up. METHODS: Nine heat adapted recreational runners (age: 25.4 ± 6.9 yr, body mass: 57.6 ± 8.4 kg; body height: 168.3 ± 7.6 cm) we

[Effect of temperature, humidity and minor injury to the penetration of dermatophytes into human stratum corneum].

We evaluated the minimum period for penetration of Trichophyton mentagrophytes into human stratum corneum using an experimental model of tinea pedis. Fungal elements were applied to the surface of stratum corneum which were obtained from a healthy human heel, and samples were incubated under a designated condition of temperature and humidity. Thirty-five degrees, which is the approximate temperature of the surface of human skin, seemed more suitable for penetration than 27C. The result also indicated that humidity was a more significant factor than temperature. In the following examination usi

The effects of temperature and humidity on the off-host survival of Psoroptes ovis and Psoroptes cuniculi.

The effects of both temperature and humidity on the survival of the mites Psoroptes ovis and Psoroptes cuniculi were considered in laboratory assays. When P. ovis and P. cuniculi were maintained at 95% humidity, maximum survival decreased linearly with increasing temperature, from approximately 15 days at 9 degrees C to 5 days at 30 degrees C. There was no significant difference between P. ovis and P. cuniculi in the effects of temperature on maximum survival. Adult male P. ovis and P. cuniculi had lower mean maximum survival than any of the other life cycle stages. There was a small but signi

Association of ambient humidity with online search interest in musculoskeletal stiffness across the United States.

BACKGROUND: Weather-related worsening of musculoskeletal symptoms is widely reported by patients, yet prior clinical studies have shown inconsistent associations between environmental conditions and pain. Population-level online search behavior may provide an additional lens through which to study symptom concern and health information-seeking behavior. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between ambient humidity and online search interest related to musculoskeletal stiffness in the United States. METHODS: State-level climate data was obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adm

Transcriptional programs controlling sporulation in Phytophthora respond to nutrition, humidity, and cryptochrome-mediated light signals.

Many filamentous pathogens employ environmental signals to regulate sporulation, maximizing the likelihood that their spores survive to colonize a new host. In the oomycete Phytophthora, little is known of the transcriptional program that underlies sporangia formation and how it is influenced by environmental inputs such as light, humidity, and nutrients. By studying time courses of the potato blight pathogen P. infestans on artificial media and tomato leaves, we identified over 4000 genes up-regulated during sporulation. These are associated with signal transduction, cell structure, vesicle t

Humidity effects in GafChromicTMEBT4 films for postal audits: characterization, reversibility and exploration of correction methods.

No harmonized methodology exists that enables traceable reference dosimetry with EBT4-film. The influence of humidity on EBT4 films is often overlooked and currently under-documented. This study quantified humidity effects for postal-audit reference dosimetry and explored the feasibility of empirical correction methods.
Approach. EBT4 films mounted in slide-frames were stored in humidity-controlled environments between 0 %RH and 100 %RH and scanned using a slide-scanner. Optical density (OD) was evaluated as a function of dose and humidity. Humidity darkening, changes in dose response and

Mechanistic insights into humidity-triggered bioaerosol emissions in greenhouses: Source dynamics and physics-based modeling.

Airborne microbial contaminants accumulate in semi-enclosed greenhouses, yet the source dynamics driving nocturnal bioaerosol peaks remain poorly constrained. This study integrates field monitoring, microstructural characterization, and physics-based modeling to quantify a humidity-triggered emission pathway using the Pseudomonas amygdali pv. Lachrymans-cucurbit system. Airborne concentrations exhibited pronounced nocturnal maxima, averaging 3233 CFU m-3, during near-saturation conditions (RH > 90%) and quiescent airflow. Microstructural analysis at lesion margins revealed discrete rupture ven

Spherical MgSiO3-NH2 Adsorbents with Optimized Surface Chemistry for Humidity-Enhanced Direct Air CO2 Capture.

Amine-functionalized solid adsorbents are widely recognized as promising candidates for direct air capture of CO2; however, their practical deployment remains constrained by humidity-dependent adsorption behavior and poor packed-bed operability arising from irregular particle morphology and fines generation. Rather than focusing solely on maximizing intrinsic adsorption capacity, this study addresses these process-level limitations through an integrated design strategy combining particle morphology control with surface chemistry optimization. Uniform spherical magnesium silicate particles with

Electronic Transport in Porous Nanocrystals Enables Ultrasensitive Consistent Detection of Sulfur Dioxide under Variable Humidity.

The growing release of gaseous pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide (SO2), underscores the need for widely distributed monitoring and reliable electronic sensing platforms capable of detecting trace concentrations of such contaminants under real-world conditions. However, achieving high sensitivity and selectivity, while maintaining stable, reproducible sensing performance with conductive materials, particularly under fluctuating humidity, remains a significant challenge. This work reports a highly crystalline, conductive tetrapyrazinoporphyrazine (TPz)-based metal-organic framework (MOF), DC-10

Increasing humidity progressively reduces sweating efficiency similarly in males and females during exercise-heat stress.

This study compared the impact of increasing relative humidity (RH) on sweating efficiency (SE) in males and females exercising in the heat. Twenty recreationally active adults (10 females) completed four experimental trials (15, 35, 55, or 75% RH) in an environmental chamber (35°C) dressed in a T-shirt and shorts (and sports bra for females). Each study visit involved cycling for 60 min at a moderate intensity (Hprod = 220 W·m-2) over a pan of mineral oil, situated above a high precision scale. Evaporated sweat loss (ESL; g) was measured as the change in mass of the combined subject + ergomet

Hydration-Regulated Tunable Trichromatic Luminescence of Mg2+ Co-Doped Ag-LTA Zeolite for Humidity Detection.

Silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) with exceptional luminescence suffer from an aggregation-induced loss of their unique quantum confinement effects. LTA zeolites are ideal hosts for stabilizing AgNCs, yet most reported water-responsive AgNC@LTA systems only exhibit binary luminescence switching, restricting high-resolution multilevel environmental monitoring. Herein, we construct a Mg2+-regulated AgNC@LTA system via sequential ion exchange and thermal treatment. The as-prepared Ag-LTA(Na/Mg) achieves continuous three-state luminescence switching with yellow emission in dehydration, red in slight hyd
