A case of transient mid-ventricular akinesia (a variant form of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy) followed with I-123-beta-metyl-iodophenyl pentadecanoic acid and I-123-meta-iodobenzyl-guanidine myocardial scintigraphy.

A 67-year-old woman without history of heart disease was admitted with chest oppression. Her electrocardiogram (ECG) at the time of admission showed ST segment elevation in leads V2-V6. Cardiac ultrasound revealed severe hypokinesis in mid to apical portion of anterior wall. Emergent coronary angiography showed normal coronary arteries. Left ventriculography (LVG) revealed akinesis of mid portion of anterior and inferior wall with hyperkinesis of apex and basal portion of anterior and inferior wall. Cardiac ultrasound examination 3 months later revealed improvement in LV contraction without mi

[Clinical subtypes of essential tremor and their electrophysiological and pharmacological differences].

We divided 19 patients with essential tremor into two subtypes according to clinical characteristics of the tremor. Ten patients had pure postural tremor distributed in the hand(s), head, and face (group A). Nine patients had tremor extending to the voice or leg(s), associated with resting tremor and/or hyperkinesie volitionnelle of the hand(s) (group B). Their ages, the age of onset, and the duration of illness were not different between the two groups. Electrophysiologically, the tremor of group A patients had higher frequencies than that of group B patients, and had synchronized activities

Gender differences in the association between anxiety and behavioral problems in 31,400 Chinese children: a cross-sectional regression and network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Child anxiety and behavioral problems are significant global public health concerns. Traditional methods often fail to capture intricate symptom interactions. This study used network analysis to explore the relationship between anxiety and behavioral problems, focusing on gender differences in a large sample of Chinese children. METHODS: Data from 31,400 students (aged 9-16) were analyzed. Anxiety and behavioral problems were assessed using SCARED and PSQ. To control for developmental variance, symptom domains were residualized against chronological age prior to network estimation

Stress-Induced Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Identified by Unique Nuclear Perfusion Pattern.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) is a stress-induced, reversible left ventricular dysfunction syndrome. Historically diagnosed via echocardiography and coronary angiography, nuclear imaging techniques have added utility and enhanced diagnostic accuracy. We present a case of a 49-year-old female who presented with dyspnea and was diagnosed with TC with the aid of nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), which was confirmed with invasive coronary angiography. Upon arriving at the ED, the patient's ECG demonstrated a normal sinus rhythm with nonspecific ST changes. An echocardiogram indicated a c

Intraoperative Cardiac Arrest During Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion Due to Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy: A Case Report.

Intraoperative cardiac arrest is a rare but life-threatening complication of non-cardiac surgery and may result from anesthetic effects, surgical events, or acute cardiopulmonary pathology. We report the case of a 50-year-old man without known structural heart disease who underwent elective C5-C7 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion and developed pulseless cardiac arrest intraoperatively. After approximately 80 minutes of stable anesthesia and completion of the discectomy portion of the operation, end-tidal carbon dioxide abruptly fell to zero and the patient was found to be pulseless. Permanent Pacemaker Implantation in a Patient with Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy and Complete Atrioventricular Block.

This case report presents a patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) and complete atrioventricular (AV) block who was treated with permanent pacemaker implantation. A 78-year-old woman with a history of hypertension presented with a 6-month history of palpitations. On initial evaluation, her heart rate was 40 beats/minute. Electrocardiography revealed a complete AV block and T-wave inversion in these leads: I, II, aVL, aVF, and V3-6. Echocardiography showed akinesis from the midventricle to the apex and hyperkinesis on the basal segments. The patient was diagnosed with TCM and complete AV b

Epilepsy in Christianson syndrome: Two cases of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and a review of literature.

Christianson syndrome (CS) is an X-linked intellectual disorder caused by mutations in the SLC9A6 gene. Clinical features of CS include an inability to speak, truncal ataxia, postnatal microcephaly, hyperkinesis, and epilepsy. Almost all patients with CS develop drug-resistant epilepsy-its most serious complication. We report two cases of CS with drug-resistant epilpesy associated with the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS). One patient experienced generalized tonic seizures since 9 months of age with cognitive regression, which evolved to include atonic seizures at the age of 7 years. Electroencep

Prepubertal Graves' disease with hyperactivity and overgrowth since early childhood.

Although Graves' disease is a prevalent endocrine disorder, it is rare in prepubertal patients. Here, we describe the case of a middle childhood boy diagnosed with Graves' disease. The patient experienced exophthalmos, hyperactivity and overgrowth. Endocrinological tests revealed positivity for hyperthyroidism and thyrotropin receptor antibodies. Ultrasonography revealed an enlarged thyroid gland with increased blood flow. The onset of symptoms was estimated to have occurred around the age of 4 years based on the growth chart and past facial photographs. We speculate that it took more than 2 y

Autoimmune mediated hyperkinetic movement disorders in SARS-CoV-2 infection - a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Various neurological symptoms have been confirmed in the course of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Some of these are undoubtedly the aftermath of the developing inflammation and increased coagulation processes. However, there is also a group of symptoms that derive from possible autoimmune processes. These include primary hyperkinetic movement disorders such as myoclonus, ataxia, opsoclonus, and tremors. This study systematically reviews scientific reports presenting patients with hyperkinetic movement disorders as one of the neurological symptoms. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The available lite

Beyond motor hyperactivity: Racing thoughts are an integral symptom of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Adults with ADHD experience mental restlessness, akin to racing thoughts, but data on this symptom in ADHD remain scarce. Our study aims at investigating self-reported racing thoughts in adults with ADHD, and its relationship with affective dysregulation and insomnia. We were also interested in whether racing thoughts may aid differential diagnosis with bipolar disorder (BD). 182 adults with ADHD, 30 ADHD+BD, 31 hypomanic BD, and 20 euthymic BD patients completed the Racing and Crowded Thoughts Questionnaire (RCTQ). Vitamin D and Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The importance of vitamin D deficiency in Parkinson's disease, its negative influence on bone health, and even disease pathogenesis has been studied intensively. However, despite its possible severe impact on health and quality of life, there is not a sufficient understanding of its role in other movement disorders. This systematic review aims at providing an overview of the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency, bone metabolism alterations, and fractures in each of the most common hyperkinetic movement disorders (HKMDs). METHODS: The study search was conducted through PubMed with ke

Early life stress induces hyperactivity but not increased anxiety-like behavior or ethanol drinking in outbred heterogeneous stock rats.

Early life stress is known to impact vulnerability to psychopathological disorders in adulthood, including anxiety and alcohol use disorder (AUD), but the mechanisms underlying susceptibility to these outcomes are not fully understood. In the current study, we used adolescent social isolation (ASI) to determine whether Heterogeneous Stock (HS) rats, an outbred model used for genetic fine-mapping, could be used to study the genetics contributing to ASI-induced anxiety- and AUD-like behavior. We isolated (ASI) or group-housed (adolescent group-housed; AGH) 64 male HS rats at 4 weeks of age. Afte

Hyperkinetic manifestations in nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy. Semeiological features and physiopathological hypothesis.

Nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy is a syndromic entity that includes paroxysmal episodes with variable semeiology, intensity and duration, representing different aspects of the same epileptic condition. In a large series studied by videopolysomnographic recording at the Department of Neurological Sciences in Bologna, we disclosed four main semeiological patterns: the paroxysmal arousals, brief simple motor phenomena, similar to a sudden arousal, recurring several times per night; the hypermotor seizures, more complex motor episodes with violent motor behaviour, vocalisation, screaming, fearful

Physiology of hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movement disorders: model for dyskinesia.

Although the basal ganglia have been implicated in the development of movement disorders since the 1940s, the exact role played by these structures has remained elusive. The development of the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-monkey model of parkinsonism, and the recent resurgence of surgical therapy for the treatment of hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movement disorders has, however, led to an improved understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms that underlie their development. In this article, we review the functional organization and examine the changes in neuronal activity

Mild Sanfilippo syndrome: a further cause of hyperactivity and behavioural disturbance.

Sanfilippo syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis type III) usually presents with severe behavioural disturbance and it has characteristic features. The patient's condition follows a neurodegenerative course; death generally occurs in the second decade. Five patients, from three families, who presented with a mild variety of the syndrome are reported here. Four of the five patients did not show the usual somatic features, and none showed regression. It is important that clinicians be aware of this mild variant so that appropriate tests can be undertaken in retarded children and adults.
