Tales from the peloton: Stress and coping in professional women's road cycling.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to use narrative inquiry to explore professional women cyclist's stories of stress and coping from their race experiences. METHOD: Semi-structured interviews with 6 professional cyclists provided powerful accounts of their racing experiences. Pragmatist narrative inquiry emphasises the key characteristics of these experiences, which coupled with a reflexive creative analytic practice led to individualised first-person stories being constructed which were combined into an ethnodrama to tell the stories of a fictional women's bicycle race. RESULTS: Tens

Assessment of diagnostic features of bulimia nervosa: interview versus self-report format.

In order to determine the clinical severity of bulimia nervosa and to measure symptomatic improvement during treatment, the behavioral and psychological features of the syndrome must be assessed. Focused semistructured interviews have recently been designed for this purpose, but such instruments can be time-consuming and costly. The present study compared the assessment of the key symptoms of bulimia nervosa using the Eating Disorder Examination with data obtained in self-report inventories and in patients' diaries of binge eating and purging. Results suggest that once the diagnosis has been e

Psychological Distress as an Indicator of Co-Occurring Psychopathology among Treatment-Seeking Disordered Gamblers.

Disordered gamblers frequently present with concurrent anxiety, depressive, personality, and substance use disorders, which may complicate treatment. Although there is a need for a thorough assessment, some questionnaires may prove lengthy for clients and clinicians. Thus, there is a need for brief screens for identifying co-occurring psychopathology. The present study sought to examine whether a brief, self-report measure of psychological distress could indicate the presence of co-occurring psychopathology among an outpatient sample of disordered gamblers. At intake, 69 participants completed

Lorazepam-Assisted Interview in Clinical Psychiatry: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence and Research Gaps.

INTRODUCTION: Drug-assisted interviews have been used in psychiatry for about a century. The use of barbiturates for this purpose has declined, and the use of lorazepam has gained popularity over time for conducting drug-assisted interviews, given a better safety profile. However, the evidence for the use of lorazepam for drug-assisted interviews is fragmented and anecdotal, and mostly in the form of case reports. The current review aims to synthesize available evidence on the use of lorazepam-assisted interviews in psychiatry. METHODS: For this narrative review, a literature search was condu
