Malignant hyperthermia is a potentially fatal autosomal dominant hypermetabolic pharmacogenetic syndrome resulting from altered intracellular calcium dynamics in skeletal muscle, triggered by halogenated anaesthetics and suxamethonium. Current evidence suggests a degree of association between malignant hyperthermia and joint dislocations. We evaluated 162 patients with a personal or family history of malignant hyperthermia utilising a standardised protocol. We found a significantly higher incidence of joint dislocations in patients with malignant hyperthermia compared to non-susceptible patien

BACKGROUND: Carpometacarpal (CMC) joint dislocations are rare, accounting for less than 1% of all hand injuries. They result from direct high-energy blows to the hand, i.e. falls on the outstretched hand, falls from bicycles or punching one's fist against an object. The objective of this case-series study was to analyse the results of treatment of these injuries in 6 patients who presented to the author's institution.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In the 3-year period between 2021 and 2023, a total of 6 male patients, mean age of 39 years, with CMC joints dislocations were treated. Three patients had

High-energy traumas may lead to the dislocation of joints with or without fractures. However, simultaneous double dislocation of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints (PIP and DIP) in fingers shows up rarely. Although it can be inferred as simultaneous dislocation occurring during the same trauma, consecutive events should be taken into consideration. A 29-year-old, right-hand dominant male patient presented to the emergency room with a left little finger deformity after being hit by a ball while playing football. Despite the inability to move the little afteruent to this hyperextensi

BACKGROUND: Divergent carpometacarpal joint dislocations of the fingers are very rare. Due to severe swelling and overlapping of bones on a radiograph of the wrist and hand, dislocations are missed. The purpose of this clinical case report is to highlight this unusual injury to avoid missing diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 24-year-old Moroccan man, an athlete, who presented divergent carpometacarpal joint fracture-dislocations of the ulnar four fingers after a fall during a national cycling competition. Radiographs showed divergent dislocation and associated fractures. He

Dislocations of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joints are uncommon and are frequently missed on standard radiographs of the hand. Dislocations could be dorsal or palmar; dorsal dislocations are seen more frequently. Palmar dislocations can be either ulnopalmar or radiopalmar. Stable CMC dislocations could be successfully treated conservatively, while unstable dislocations are mostly treated operatively. The purpose of this report is to present a patient with an isolated ulnopalmar dislocation of the fifth CMC joint, satisfactorily treated with closed reduction and casting.

INTRODUCTION: Volar dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint is a rare injury which is commonly missed in the emergency departments. A thorough review of literature showed very few reported cases and the cause for irreducibility varied in different cases, Lack of suspicion and improper X-ray can delay the diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: Our article discusses a case 40 year old construction worker, who presented to the Emergency with work-related injury, complaining of left wrist pain, deformity and inability to rotate his forearm. X-rays revealed a volar dislocation of distal ulna which was r

Post-traumatic cricothyroid joint dislocation is reported in the literature. Trauma of the laryngeal framework is the most common cause. As a result, spontaneous non-traumatic cricothyroid joint dislocation is very rarely described. We report the case of a patient with spontaneous cricothyroid joint dislocation with the aim of reporting the diagnostic and therapeutic findings related to this rare entity. History and physical examination may suggest diagnosis. Computed tomography scan can confirm diagnosis and detect coexistence of anatomic anomalies of the neck. Reduction of dislocation may be

INTRODUCTION: Superolateral disclocations of the temporomandibular joint are rare. They mostly occur after high-energy trauma and are frequently associated with fractures of the mandibular body.
CASE REPORT: A 35-year-old man was admitted for the management of a high-energy craniofacial trauma due to a road accident. The initial assessment revealed bilateral superolateral temporomandibular joint disclocations, with bilateral sagittal fractures of the condyle head and a fracture of the right parasymphysis. The treatment consisted in an external reduction of both condyles, followed by open redu

We present a case of a 45-year-old woman with a right proximal tibiofibular dislocation she sustained after a fall during roller skating. Anteroposterior and lateral radiographs confirmed the diagnosis; there were no other injuries. The dislocation was reduced by direct manipulation after intra-articular infiltration, in our emergency department. The patient was treated with a long, non-weight bearing leg cast for 1 week. After 4 weeks, she had no pain and a full range of motion of the knee.

Plantar dislocation of the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint is an extremely rare injury. To the best of our knowledge, there are no previous reports in the literature of an isolated dislocation of this type requiring open reduction and surgical repair. In this case report, we describe the clinical and operative findings and discuss in detail our surgical technique for the successful management of this unusual injury.

The paper presents a case of untypical, not included in existing classifications, knee joint dislocation in a young man. An MRI scan confirmed a rupture of both cruciate ligaments and damage to the ligamento-capsular complex on the medial side of the knee joint. Two weeks after injury, an arthroscopy was performed with joint lavage followed by repair of the damaged ligamento-capsular complex. A very good functional result was obtained three years after the injury, in spite of the patient not having consented to an elective cruciate ligament reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) instability is relatively rare. Surgical treatment may be considered for severely displaced dislocations or symptomatic recurrent anterior instability. The purpose of this study was to describe an SCJ ligament reconstruction technique and retrospectively evaluate its safety and effectiveness for treating anterior SCJ dislocations and instability.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of demographics, medical history, injury characteristics, and pretreatment pain and functional levels was performed. A soft-tissue graft woven in a Roman numeral X

OBJECTIVE: Recurrent dislocation of the temporomandibular joint is difficult to treat with nonsurgical methods. A new nonsurgical method for the treatment of this condition is presented.
METHODS: Routine dental arch bars were applied to the teeth, and two latex elastic bands were placed between the two arch bars on either side of the dental arch. Muscular exercises (i.e. active mouth opening) were then performed regularly over approximately three months.
RESULTS: Patients were followed up for two to five years, and the treatment proved successful in five of five cases (i.e. no recurrence was

Lesions of knee's lateral side are less common than medial injuries. The anatomy of the lateral ligaments and the presence of additional structures (eg, fibula head) can cause diagnostic problems. Isolated dislocation of the proximal tibiofibular joint is unusual; therefore, it may be overlooked in the emergency department. Many cases are missed due to failure of diagnosis. This type of injury is common in athletes whose sports require twisting motions of the flexed knee (eg, wrestling, parachute jumping, judo, gymnastics, skiing, rugby, football, soccer, track, baseball, basketball, racquetba

The clinical and radiological features, surgical treatment, and outcome of two cats with traumatically induced dislocation of the lumbosacral joint are described in this report. The dislocation of the lumbosacral joint was concurrent with dorsal luxation of the articular facets in both cases. Open reduction, followed by stabilization with a dorsal suture sling, resulted in a good clinical outcome.

Posttraumatic instability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), occurring in isolation or in association with fractures of the radius, is well-documented. Few reports have identified simultaneous ipsilateral DRUJ instability and elbow dislocation. The authors of the present study describe a case of persistent radiocapitellar subluxation after closed reduction of an elbow dislocation, secondary to irreducible volar subluxation of the DRUJ.
