The impact of early speech and language cognitive training care on the developmental quotient of children with language impairments: A retrospective study.

This study aims to investigate the effects of early speech and language cognitive training on the nursing outcomes of children with language impairments and their impact on developmental quotient. From October 2018 to October 2023, the data of 80 children with language impairments treated at our hospital were selected. They were divided into an observation group (n = 40) and a control group (n = 40) based on the treatment plan. The control group received routine rehabilitation training, while the observation group received early cognitive language rehabilitation training. The treatment efficac

[Characteristics of speech disorders in patients with early infantile autism of endogenous etiology].

The paper is concerned with a study into the characteristic features of language pathology in children with early infantile autism of the process genesis. 68 patients with early infantile autism were entered into the study. The language as the earliest function of the central nervous system may suffer first of all. Language disorders of varying pathogenetic levels consequent on retarded development, catatonic disorders, mental regression, and pathology of the associative process have been revealed. Measures aimed at language pathology rehabilitation have been elaborated.

Teasing out specific language impairment from an autism spectrum disorder.

Marcus is a handsome, sweet, 7½-year-old boy with a significant history of delayed development, specifically in speech and language skills, as well as difficulties with social interactions that have led other specialists to be concerned about a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder. He has been seen in our primary care practice since birth. He was born full-term after vaginal delivery weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces. There were no pregnancy or delivery complications noted. Genetic testing revealed normal chromosomes, fragile X, and microarray testing. Marcus was a picky eater and good sleeper an

Morphosyntactic and lexical features in 5;0-6;0 years old Persian-speaking children with a history of late-talking: A 3 years follow up.

This longitudinal study compared morphosyntactic and lexical skills in Persian-speaking children aged 5;0-6;0 with a history of late-talking (LT, n=28) and typically developing peers (TD, n=26). Participants, initially assessed at 30 months (31 LT, 32 TD), were matched for age and socioeconomic status. Language skills were evaluated using the Test of Language Development (TOLD), mean length of utterance in morphemes (MLUm), Persian developmental sentence scoring (PDSS), a2 (Maas), number of total words (NTW), and number of different words (NDW). Results showed that 10 LT children improved (cla

Delayed auditory experience results in past tense production difficulties and working memory deficits in children with cochlear implants: A comparison with children with developmental language disorder.

Extent evidence has shown that morphosyntax is one of the most challenging linguistic areas for children with atypical early language experiences. Over the last couple of years, comparisons between deaf children with CIs and children with DLD have gained interest - as cases of atypical early language experiences, including, but not restricted to, delayed onset of exposure to language input and language-processing difficulties. Evidence suggests that the morphosyntactic difficulties experienced by deaf children with CIs and children with DLD are very similar in nature. However, the few studies

The Impact of Intervention Dose Form on Oral Language Outcomes for Children With Developmental Language Disorder.

Purpose The aim of this study was to extract key learning from intervention studies in which qualitative aspects of dosage, dose form, have been examined for children with developmental language disorder (DLD)-in vocabulary, morphosyntax, and phonology domains. This research paper emerged from a pair of systematic reviews, aiming to synthesize available evidence regarding qualitative and quantitative aspects of dosage. While quantitative aspects had been experimentally manipulated, the available evidence for dose form (tasks or activities within which teaching episodes are delivered) was less

[Language disorders. Diagnosis and treatment].

AIMS: The study reviews language disorders in children. Taking their normal development as the starting point, the work puts forward a differential diagnosis based on the symptoms presented in the moment the patient visited the physician. It also suggests an approach for children with language disorders from the neuropaediatric point of view while also updating the management of some of its forms. DEVELOPMENT: The acquisition of language is one of the key milestones in the development of children. A child's social and intellectual development is affected by delayed acquisition of language and

Maternal interactive beliefs and style as predictors of language development in preterm and full term children.

Previous research has shown that the quality of mother-child interactions between pre-term children and their mothers tends to be poorer than that of full-term children and their mothers (Forcada-Guex, Pierrehumbert, Borghini, Moessinger & Muller-Nix, 2006). Mothers of pre-term children are less responsive and more intrusive in interactions with their children than mothers of full-term children (Forcada-Guex et al., 2006; Ionio, Lista, Mascheroni, Olivari, Confalonieri, Mastrangelo, Brazzoduro, Balestriero, Banfi, Bonanomi, Bova, Castoldi, Colombo, Introvini & Scelsa, 2017; Laing, McMahon, Ung

Does shape affect function? Articulatory skills in babbling of infants with deformational plagiocephaly.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to quantitatively analyse pre-speech/early language skills in healthy full-term infants with moderate or severe deformational plagiocephaly (DP) and in infants without any skull asymmetry. METHODS: At 6 and 12 months, 51 children with DP (41 moderate, 10 severe cases) were studied, along with 15 infants serving as control. Deformational plagiocephaly (DP) was objectively determined based on cranial vault asymmetry (CVA) using 3D stereophotogrammetry (3dMDhead System® and Analytics 4.0, Cranioform®). Articulatory skills in babbling were assessed using the

Sources of Misinterpretation in the Input and Their Implications for Language Intervention With English-Speaking Children.

PURPOSE: In English and related languages, many preschool-age children with developmental language disorder (DLD) have difficulties using tense and agreement consistently. In this review article, we discuss two potential input-related sources of this difficulty and offer several possible strategies aimed at circumventing input obstacles. METHOD: We review a series of studies from English, supplemented by evidence from computational modeling and studies of other languages. Collectively, the studies show that instances of failures to express tense and agreement in DLD resemble portions of large

Short report. Narrative competence in Italian preschool children with sex chromosome trisomies.

BACKGROUND: The neuropsychological profile of children with sex chromosome trisomies [SCTs] is frequently characterised by delays and impairments in language development. However, no studies so far have specifically investigated their narrative competence. AIMS: The aim of the study was to analyse the oral narrative competence of preschool children with SCTs due to the importance of this skill for language development and learning abilities. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: Participants were 34 Italian children with SCTs one-to-one matched by age and sex to typically developing [TD] children. A story

Reduced brain activation during spoken language processing in children with developmental language disorder and children with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.

Language difficulties of children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) have been associated with multiple underlying factors and are still poorly understood. One way of investigating the mechanisms of DLD language problems is to compare language-related brain activation patterns of children with DLD to those of a population with similar language difficulties and a uniform etiology. Children with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) constitute such a population. Here, we conducted an fMRI study, in which children (6-10yo) with DLD and 22q11DS listened to speech alternated with reversed spe

Spoken Word Learning in Children With Developmental Language Disorder or Dyslexia.

Purpose Word learning difficulties have been documented in multiple studies involving children with dyslexia and developmental language disorder (DLD; see also specific language impairment). However, no previous studies have directly contrasted word learning in these two frequently co-occurring disorders. We examined word learning in second-grade students with DLD-only and dyslexia-only as compared to each other, peers with both disorders (DLD + dyslexia), and peers with typical development. We hypothesized that children with dyslexia-only and DLD-only would show differences in word learning d

Other-initiations of repair by children with developmental language disorder in speech-language therapy and non-institutional play.

This study explores the use of other-initiations of repair by children with developmental language disorder (DLD). The data are children's video-recorded language assessment sessions, speech-language therapy sessions and two kinds of non-institutional play sessions, parent-child and peer play. The videotapes were transcribed following CA conventions focusing on speech and relevant embodied actions. Other-initiations of repair were identified, collected and analyzed. The analysis focuses on open requests and candidate understandings which were the two most common types of other-initiation of re

Semantic fluency difficulties in developmental dyslexia and developmental language disorder (DLD): poor semantic structure of the lexicon or slower retrieval processes?

BACKGROUND: Children with dyslexia and/or developmental language disorder (hereafter children with DDLD) have been reported to retrieve fewer words than their typically developing (TD) peers in semantic fluency tasks. It is not known whether this retrieval difficulty can be attributed to the semantic structure of their lexicon being poor or, alternatively, to words being retrieved more slowly despite semantic structure being intact. AIMS: To test two theoretical models that could potentially account for retrieval difficulties in semantic fluency tasks, namely, the Poor Lexical-Semantic Struct
