Neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases may involve energy impairment leading to secondary excitotoxicity, and free radical generation. Conditions for gas-liquid and chromato-mass-spectrometric analyses of chloracetone, dinitril o-chlorobenzylidene malonic acid, and pelargonic acid morpholide have been developed. The proposed methods may be used for identification of these compounds in investigation of material evidence in cases involving the use of defence gas weapons.

The effect of convaflavin in doses of 30 and 45 mg/kg on lipid peroxidation in the heart was studied in white rats with experimental thyrotoxicosis. A noticeable decrease of the concentration of diene conjugates and malonic dialdehyde was revealed as was activation of catalase and peroxidase under the influence of convaflavin administered in a dose of 45 mg/kg.

A water-soluble pyrene-malonate (PyM) probe enables ultrasensitive, non-invasive detection of urinary trypsin for early pancreatic disease screening. Protamine binding induces aggregation and excimer formation, while trypsin-mediated cleavage disassembles the aggregates and enables monomer fluorescence recovery. The system reliably detects trypsin in 10% human urine within physiological levels.

In 86 patients with chronic granulomatous and granulating periodontitis in the absence of other pathology the lipid peroxidation products levels were increased as indicated by accumulation of malonic dialdehyde and diene conjugates in the whole blood. The relative content of disulphide groups in the red blood cells was increased and that of sulfhydryl groups decreased. The findings correlate with those detected in granulomas.

We report the synthesis of a new nickel(II) hydroxide complex 2 supported by a rigid, tridentate triazolylidene-carbazolid ligand. The complex can be accessed in high yields following a simple and stepwise extraction protocol using dichloromethane and aqueous ammonium chloride followed by aqeous sodium hydroxide solution. In a 14-year-old boy with bladder augmentation, Mitrofanoff appendicovesicostomy, Malone antegrade enema stoma, and bladder neck reconstruction, urinary continence was restored by injection of Teflon with a Veress needle and the aid of a 2-mm laparoscopic port. The method has since been used for nine treatments in six children and has been successful in all.

Rates of lipid peroxidation and endogenous phospholipase hydrolysis were studied under conditions of simultaneous moderate hypothermia and traumatic ischemia of muscles. Activation of the reactions studied, which was expressed as an increase in content of malonic dialdehyde and free fatty acids, was of importance for pathogenesis of muscles impairments occurring in trauma. Local cooling affected favourably these patterns of lipid metabolism.
