Cervicogenic angina and dyspnea are conditions characterized by chest discomfort and breathing difficulties that resemble angina pectoris and dyspnea of cardiac origin. However, this condition is caused by cervical spine pathology, cervical spondylosis, and radiculopathy. This case study reports a 66-year-old man who presented with cervicogenic angina and dyspnea due to cervical radiculopathy to a chiropractic clinic. The patient underwent a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, including taking the patient's history, a physical examination, and radiological investigations, which demonstrated c

BACKGROUND: Vertebrobasilar ischemic strokes may occur after chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine or, less often, after spontaneous and abrupt head movement.
SUMMARY OF REVIEW: We describe three such cases of vertebrobasilar ischemic strokes and review 36 other reported cases.
CONCLUSIONS: We give evidence that 1) the population at risk cannot be identified a priori in the vast majority of cases; 2) symptoms may develop after many uneventful manipulations; 3) clinical syndromes consist of occipital lobe (5%), cerebellar (8%), locked-in (8%), Wallenberg's (28%), other brain stem (4

Mechanical disorders of the lumbar spine have been identified as a cause of pelvic pain and organic dysfunction (PPOD). Categorically, the clinical features indicative of mechanically induced PPOD fall into three areas: the history of the development or onset of pelvic symptomatology attributable to lower sacral nerve root compression (LSNRC), identification of related symptomatology on presentation, and the recognition of clinical findings indicative of mechanically induced PPOD on examination. Characteristic features of each category are presented. The clinical signs that most reliably indic

A 39-year-old man presented with a pure motor stroke 9 days after cervical chiropractic manipulation. Computerised tomographic scanning showed a pontine infarct. Cerebral angiography showed changes consistent with the diagnosis of bilateral vertebral artery dissection. It is postulated that the infarct resulted from artery-to-artery embolism.

BACKGROUND Bell's palsy, also called facial nerve palsy, occasionally co-occurs with trigeminal neuropathy, which presents as additional facial sensory symptoms and/or neck pain. Bell's palsy has a proposed viral etiology, in particular when occurring after dental manipulation. CASE REPORT A 52-year-old Asian woman presented to a chiropractor with a 3-year history of constant neck pain and left-sided maxillary, eyebrow, and temporomandibular facial pain, paresis, and paresthesia, which began after using a toothpick, causing possible gum trauma. She had previously been treated with antiviral me

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this article is to discuss evidence that supports the resolution of inequities for Medicare beneficiaries who receive chiropractic care.
DISCUSSION: Medicare covers necessary examinations, imaging, exercise instruction, and treatments for beneficiaries with back pain when provided by medical doctors, osteopaths, and their associated support staff such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, and physical therapists. However, if the same patient with back pain presents to a chiropractor, then the only service that is covered by Medicar

An adult female presenting with clinical impressions of cervical myositis with radiculopathy which began three days earlier following a motor vehicle accident, was referred for dental consultation because of tenderness over the left temporomandibular joint; response of the cervical spine pain to manipulation and physical therapy, including transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), was minimal. Dental examination revealed a malocclusion and following treatment with an intraoral orthotic device, along with chiropractic care, the patient's cervical spine pain was completely relieved. It

Arteriospasm can result from manipulation or fresh blood around an artery. This myogenic reflex can spread to obliterate collateral flow and can last from minutes to days. Ischemic strokes from carotid spasm ensue neurosurgical procedures, endarterectomies, and even chiropractic manipulation. The diagnosis and prevention of arteriospasm are presented, and a patient who has carotid arteriospasm following excision of a branchial cleft cyst is detailed. If the vessel constriction is noted at surgery, topical application of a local anesthetic is effective. Transfusion, hydration, oxygenation, and

BACKGROUND: Few manual chiropractic high velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) type shams have been validated in research. The proposed project is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) designed to assess a novel, full-spine, manual sham chiropractic maneuver and its blinding success.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the blinding integrity of participants receiving a genuine or sham chiropractic maneuver. We will also be evaluating the effects of genuine chiropractic treatments relative to sham chiropractic treatments by measuring several neurophysiological mechanisms.
METHODS: Participants (N=6

A 34-year-old male with a 9+ year history of right sided abdominal pain, associated diarrhea and a diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome was referred for physical therapy and chiropractic care at a multidisciplinary primary care clinic. Multiple evaluations by various providers resulted in multiple tests and numerous medications without substantial relief in symptoms. Five physical therapy visits and three sessions of chiropractic care resulted in 90% improvement in subjective pain report and 60-70% reduction in diarrhea frequency. At a 6 month follow up phone visit, his symptoms had continued

Vertebral artery dissection (VAD) is a rare but potentially serious cause of posterior circulation stroke, occasionally associated with high-velocity, low-amplitude cervical spinal manipulation therapy (CSMT). We present the case of a 70-year-old female who developed acute expressive aphasia following chiropractic neck manipulation. Imaging revealed a proximal right vertebral artery occlusion with findings suggestive of dissection in the setting of vascular hypoplasia. The patient was managed conservatively with blood pressure control, antithrombotic therapy, and rehabilitation, ultimately ret

It is hypothesized that degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) may induce or exacerbate trigeminal neuralgia (TN) through mechanisms such as direct compression of the spinal trigeminal tract, inflammation, or vascular issues, leading to ischemia within cervical segments C3-C4, where the spinal trigeminal nucleus extends. Here, we report the potential therapeutic impact of chiropractic treatment in a 55-year-old female with TN resistance to medical therapy and DCM. The patient received targeted chiropractic care, consisting of high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) spinal manipulation of the C3-C7
