Intrusive luxation is the most severe type of dental injury with a complex healing sequence. Pulp necrosis, root resorption (surface, inflammatory and replacement resorption), and defects in marginal periodontal bone healing are the main complications. Treatment strategies can be either active, by repositioning (surgical or orthodontic extrusion), or passive, by spontaneous re-eruption based on the thorough evaluation of the case. This paper reports a case of delayed repositioning of severely intruded permanent maxillary central incisors accompanied by complicated crown fractures after 3 month

In 1997, Lambert and colleagues demonstrated that the absence of sinus fluid on head CT essentially excludes a fracture involving the sinus walls. Our purpose is to reevaluate this association utilizing the current standard of imaging technology. With improved image resolution, we aim to reassess whether the sensitivity and specificity of the "clear sinus sign" are improved or worsened. Furthermore, the current standard of care is to obtain a CT of the facial bones along with a head CT when facial trauma is suspected, so we also analyzed the association of the "clear sinus sign" with nasal bon

Orbital fractures occur less frequently in the pediatric population than in the adult population. Due to the elasticity of the bones that comprise the orbital floor it is not uncommon for the orbital floor to fracture and immediately self-reduce. This puts the muscles and soft tissues of the orbital floor at an increased risk of entrapment. There is no exact agreement in the literature as to the ideal timing of surgical intervention for these types of injuries. However, there are many surgeons who advise early intervention in the first few days of the injury. This article describes a case of a

BACKGROUND: The restoration of endodontically treated premolars has been a controversial topic. Whether a post or a more conservative option should be used remains inconclusive. The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the fracture strength and failure pattern of different partial coverage restoration approaches for endodontically treated upper premolars in comparison to the post, core and crown approach. METHODS: Thirty-five maxillary premolars were endodontically treated and assigned to five groups (n = 7): endocrown (E), endocrown with buccal veneer (EB), overlay (O), overlay with bucca

BACKGROUND: The structural integrity of teeth after endodontic retreatment depends on the amount of remaining dentin. Excessive instrumentation can weaken roots and predispose them to fracture. This study evaluated the fracture resistance of maxillary premolars following non-surgical retreatment (NS-ReT) with Retreaty and XP-endo Rise systems.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-eight maxillary first premolar roots were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n = 12); G1-NC (Negative control, non-instrumented), G2-PC (Positive control, instrumented, not obturated), G3-RETY (Retreaty), and G4-XPER (XP-endo Ri

The socket shield technique (SST) preserves peri-implant tissues during immediate implant placement in teeth with intact roots, yet its biomechanical behavior in the presence of vertical root fractures (VRFs) remains unquantified. This study evaluated the mechanical feasibility of a modified multi-shield SST (MS-SST) designed for single-fracture-line scenarios in maxillary central incisors. Three-dimensional finite element models representing conventional immediate implantation (CII), classic SST (C-SST), and MS-SST were subjected to 45° oblique occlusal loading from 10 to 100 N in 10 N increm

INTRODUCTION: There are different reinforcement methods in restoring root-filled teeth. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of fiber post and cusp coverage on fracture resistance of endodontically treated maxillary premolars directly restored with composite resin.
METHODS: Seventy-five maxillary premolars were divided into 5 groups (n = 15). Except for the control group (intact teeth), in other groups mesio-occlusodistal (MOD) cavities were prepared after endodontic treatment. In the groups with cusp coverage, both buccal and lingual cusps were reduced up to 2 mm. Then s

A field of sensilla extends across the ventral surface of the terminal segment of the maxillary palps of Periplaneta americana. The sensilla project from a sheet of pliable cuticle. Ultrathin sections of the cuticle in this area reveal a clear-cut parabolic microfiber pattern. Microfibers can also be seen from freeze fracture faces running parallel to the cuticular surface. These microfibers have a diameter of 80 A and may consist of chitin crystallites surrounded by a matrix coat. The number of straight parallel microfibers visible in a fracture face increases the more closely parallel to the

BACKGROUND: The mesiobuccal roots of maxillary first molars frequently contain a second mesiobuccal (MB2) canal, where limited dentin thickness near the furcation may compromise root strength during instrumentation. This study evaluated the effects of MB2 preparation taper and sealer type on fracture resistance in these roots.
METHODS: Sixty extracted maxillary first molars with an MB2 canal in the mesiobuccal root were identified using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Teeth with two canals in the mesiobuccal root, either separate or merging within the apical 1-2 mm, were included. Mesio
