OBJECTIVE: To conduct an update of a prior survey and contribute contemporary social media usage statistics to the radiology education literature.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We administered an updated 14-question survey on SurveyMonkey and promoted it through our social media accounts and newsletter subscriber lists between March 10 and April 16, 2025. The survey collected demographic information and was open to the broader medical community, asking respondents to specify their role in medicine and their use of each social media platform for radiology education.
RESULTS: We received 320 response

BACKGROUND: Social media is a common source of cancer information for patients, caregivers, and survivors. Factors influencing engagement with oncology nutrition content on social media are not well-defined, despite the high prevalence of social media use for health information. The impact of bilingual content strategies on that engagement is also poorly understood.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe changes in postlevel engagement on a Facebook page used to disseminate evidence-based cancer nutrition information during the period before and after the implementation of a bilingual, multif

Bone tissue engineering offers the promise of creating alternatives to bone grafts to facilitate defect repair. Although many different approaches have been investigated, recent work has focused on harnessing the potential of scaffold-free approaches, such as spheroids, to create viable engineered bone tissue. In this study, we explored the possibility of developing bone constructs from large MSC spheroids. Spheroids were developed from human MSCs and were sequentially cultured for 42 days in vary degrees of chondrogenic and osteogenic media to induced endochondral and intramembranous bone for

The present study reports on the effects on adult tobacco cessation of a comprehensive tobacco-use prevention and cessation program in the state of Texas. Differences in cessation rates across treatment conditions were measured by following a panel of 622 daily smokers, recruited from the original cross-sectional sample, from baseline to follow-up. The adult media campaign combined television, radio, newspaper and billboard advertisements featuring messages and outreach programs to help adults avoid or quit using tobacco products. The ads also promoted quitting assistance programs from the Ame

BACKGROUND: In the United States, Black women face racial stressors that significantly undermine their well-being and contribute to poor mental health outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: The current study examines how racial stressors (i.e., racial violence exposure through social media, vicarious racism, and interpersonal racism) are associated with racial trauma and dysphoria (i.e., depression, anxiety, and hostility) and the moderating role of emotion-focused coping self-efficacy (e.g., suppression of unpleasant thoughts and emotions) among Black women (Mage = 35, N = 283).
DESIGN: The study employed a

Exposure to different types of images on social media is known to affect physical and mental wellbeing including changes in perception of body image (BI) and dietary behavior. The present study aimed to assess the effects of junk food-related Instagram content exposure on body image, overall mood, and cravings in young adults. A randomized crossover experimental design was used. After filling out a baseline survey, participants (n = 63, aged 18-24) browsed either a control Instagram account feed or an account rich in junk food images during 15 min. They then filled a short survey evaluating th

BACKGROUND: Media is a social determinant of HIV and sexually transmissible infection (STI) risk. However, limited empirical data have examined men's media exposure and their sexual attitudes and behaviour towards women.
METHODS: Eighty heterosexual African-American men were assessed on their exposure to music videos, sexual attitudes and behaviour. They also were tested for STIs.
RESULTS: Findings indicated that men influenced by music videos reported more sexual adventurism, more condom barriers, more lifetime sexual partners, more condom request refusals, substance abuse and a history of

BackgroundOtitis media includes acute otitis media, otitis media with effusion, and chronic suppurative otitis media. It causes substantial morbidity, especially among children and older adults. This study assessed the burden of otitis media among U.S. males from 1990 to 2021.MethodsUsing Global Burden of Disease 2021 estimates, we analyzed incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for otitis media among U.S. males. Age-specific patterns were described, and temporal trends in age-standardized rates were evaluated using Joinpoint regression. Attributable risk factors, partic

INTRODUCTION: Upper respiratory tract infection is a nonspecific term used to describe an acute infection involving the nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx and larynx. Upper respiratory tract infections in children are often associated with Eustachian tube dysfunction and complicated by otitis media, an inflammatory process within the middle ear. Environmental, epidemiologic and familial risk factors for otitis media (such as sex, socioeconomic and educational factors, smoke exposure, allergy or duration of breastfeeding) have been previously reported, but actually no data about their diffusion a

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the pancreatic differentiation potential of α-1,3-galactosyltransferase knockout (GalTKO) pig-derived bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) using epigenetic modifiers with different pancreatic induction media.
METHODS: The BM-MSCs have been differentiated into pancreatic β-like cells by inducing the overexpression of key transcription regulatory factors or by exposure to specific soluble inducers/small molecules. In this study, we evaluated the pancreatic differentiation of GalTKO pig-derived BM-MSCs using epigenetic modifiers, 5-azacytidine (5-Aza) and v

News media plays an integral role in facilitating public discourse, influencing attitudes and shaping policy decisions on drugs. Negative, sensationalist or inaccurate media coverage of drugs can lead to negative or stigmatising attitudes towards people who use drugs or who are associated with drugs. This can and should be changed. The national Mindframe guidelines-which support safe and accurate reporting of suicide, mental health and alcohol and other drug use-have resulted in significant reductions in the financial and health cost ($596 million over a 5-year period and 107 quality-adjusted

BACKGROUND: The month of June has been recognized as the National Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Awareness Month since 2011 in the United States. Established by government resolution, the goal is to increase awareness and reduce the incidence of congenital CMV infection, a leading cause of preventable birth defects and developmental disabilities. Social media is a powerful tool to support public health by making health information easily accessible. With an estimated 246 million users in the United States and more than half of adults seeking health information through such platforms, social media offer

OBJECTIVE: Most advertisements contain thin-ideal imagery enhanced by digital modification. The deleterious effects on body image and eating disorder risk of exposure to such images have been well documented. One of the proposed macro-level solutions to mitigate these effects has been the use of labels on images, primarily disclaimer labels. A growing number of studies have explored the usefulness of such labels in protecting body image against the detrimental effects of media exposure; however, findings have been divergent.
METHODS: The current study aimed to conduct a systematic review and

BACKGROUND: Digital media engagement, such as browsing the internet or social media posting, may be associated with cannabis and tobacco product use initiation among adolescents. Whether certain digital media exposure confers greater - or reduced - risk for specific cannabis or tobacco products is unknown.
METHODS: Adolescents completed surveys on digital media and substance use every 6 months from 2015 to 2017 (4 waves). Self-reported digital media use (14 items) was classified into six subcategories (e.g., "social media posting," "reading news/articles & browsing photos"). Random-effect rep

BACKGROUND: Blood services worldwide continue to face persistent challenges in recruiting and retaining voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors, particularly among younger populations. Over the past decade, communication strategies have shifted from traditional mass media to digital environments, where social media platforms, influencers, and online communities increasingly shape social norms, identity formation, and prosocial behaviour. These digital tools are now widely used to mobilise blood donors; however, the existing evidence base remains fragmented across disciplines, regions, and stud

Public health concerns about social media use (SMU) have generated interest in the development of interventions capable of reducing SMU. In this study, we replicated and extended Stinson and Dallery (2023) by evaluating the effects of a contingency management with alternative activity selection intervention on SMU and engagement in alternative activities with four college students. Results from the current study replicate the findings of Stinson and Dallery. Reductions in SMU were observed, but no discernable influence on engagement in alternative activities occurred during the intervention ph

The analysis of exposure is a necessary feature of epidemiological studies. In the case of low-risk cancer agents, the examination of potential exposure should follow a sequence that prioritizes the major media and routes of concern. This will minimize the misclassification of exposure and the failure to identify important co-factors, e.g. contamination in other media, etc. The manuscript describes specific components of exposure analysis and provides examples that pertain to single and multimedia exposure problems. The approach is examined by using the Total Human Environmental Exposure Study
