OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics, prognosis and histologic origin of the mucinous tumor of the peritoneum.
METHODS: According to 2010 WHO classification of tumours of the digestive system, 34 cases diagnosed as "pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) " were reevaluated and divided into low grade and high grade. Primary cutaneous mucinous sweat gland carcinoma is said to be prognostically stratifiable by neuroendocrine differentiation, however, this assertion is based on historical data and older staining techniques. Ovarian carcinoids are frequently encountered in association with mucinous cysts and occasionally with mucinous cystadenomas. From a series of more than 200 ovarian carcinoids, this report describes 2 cases of insular carcinoid, 1 of which arose in a cystadenoma of borderline malignancy and the other in a mucinous adenocarcinoma. Histogenesis, histologic patterns, and natural history of carcinoid are discussed.

Regenerating islet-deprived gene family, number 4 (REG4), is a novel marker for intestinal differentiation. We performed immunohistochemical studies on REG4, cytokeratin (CK)7, CK20, and caudal type homeobox 2 (CDX2) in 291 ovarian mucinous tumors. There were 226 primary tumors and 65 metastatic tumors. Appendix pathology represents uncommonly encountered specimens with unique diagnostic challenges. To delineate common knowledge gaps, extramural consults submitted to seven institutions between 2016-2017 were reviewed. All appendix consults were resections (100%, n = 43), and the majority were directed for consultation by the originating pathologist (95%, n = 41) with no additional studies performed by the consultant (65%, n = 28).
