Assessment and classification of choroidal vasculitis in posterior uveitis using indocyanine green angiography.

BACKGROUND: By allowing one to detect fluorescence beyond the retinal pigment epithelium, indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) has made it possible to analyse the choroidal vessels. Our aim was to characterize choroidal vasculitis in posterior uveitis using ICGA. METHODS: Charts of active posterior uveitis patients with a specific diagnosis seen in the different centers participating in the study who had undergone dual fluorescein and ICG angiography were reviewed. The type of inflammatory involvement of the choroidal circulation at entry and the treatment response on follow-up angiograms wer

Opposing pathophysiological concepts in multiple evanescent white dot syndrome: The great MEWDS schism.

Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a benign posterior uveitis involving the outer retina-choriocapillaris complex. The clinical picture, since its first description in 1984, is well-established. Classified at the benign end of the choriocapillaritis spectrum, including, among others, idiopathic multifocal choroiditis, serpiginous choroiditis, and acute posterior multifocal pigment epitheliopathy, a challenge to this classical choriocapillaritis classification of the disease was attempted, attributing the primary lesion process to a photoreceptoritis. The aim of this perspective

Pathological and immunohistochemical studies of choroid plexus carcinoma of the dog.

Choroid plexus carcinomas in four dogs (three male, one female) aged small middle 2.5 to 10 years, were examined by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. The dogs showed progressive neurological signs including ataxia, seizures, vestibular disease and cranial nerve deficits, lasting for several months in some cases. Primary tumours were localized in the lateral (one case), third (one case), and fourth (two cases) ventricles. Hydrocephalus was evident at post-mortem examination in one case. In two cases the neoplastic cells closely resembled the structure of normal choroid plexus, with a d

Neurologic complications of Hodgkin's disease. Choroid plexus involvement.

Involvement of the choroid plexus by lymphoma (Hodgkin) is a hitherto undescribed complication. We report herein the case of a 49-year-old man who developed, shortly before death, neurologic symptoms seemingly related to extensive involvement of choroid plexus and surrounding ventricular structures by lymphoma (Hodgkin's). There was also multifocal involvement of cranial nerves and spinal canal contents.

Assessing the Precision of ICD-10 Codes for Uveitis in 2 Electronic Health Record Systems.

ImportanceElectronic health record (EHR) systems based on International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) coding of disease entities are increasingly being used to generate large data sets for analysis. However, the reproducibility of ICD-10 coding in uveitis has not been assessed across EHR platforms, and imprecision in coding may lead to improper conclusions in big-data analyses.ObjectiveTo compare ICD-10 coding of uveitis using 2 EHR systems.Design, setting, and participantsThis study compares ICD-10 codes for 27 uveitic diseases gen

Delayed choroidal perfusion: a fluorescein angiographic finding in retinopathy of prematurity.

PURPOSE: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is the leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. While choroidal involution has been described in animal models, choroidal perfusion in premature infants remains poorly characterized because of limited use of intravenous fluorescein angiography (IVFA). METHODS: This retrospective study systematically analyzed IVFAs performed post-treatment in patients with ROP at the Hospital for Sick Children between 2011 and 2020. Eligible patients had received intravitreal bevacizumab or laser photocoagulation, and only transiting eyes were included to allow

[Diagnostics and treatment of choroidal lymphoma].

Choroidal lymphoma is a rare disease and can be classified into primary and secondary choroidal lymphomas. Primary choroidal lymphoma is a low-grade extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma and secondary choroidal lymphomas present ocular manifestations of disseminated systemic lymphomas. Typical clinical features of choroidal lymphoma are multifocal, yellow-whitish choroidal infiltrates. The vitreous body is usually clear and cell-free. Choroidal lymphoma has a tendency to extend through the sclera. In contrast to primary choroidal lymphoma, which is more often unilateral, does not show signs

Retinal and choroidal alterations in patients with anorexia nervosa without vision loss.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the alterations of retinal anatomy and function, as well as choroidal thickness changes, in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN). METHOD: 13 female AN patients (26 eyes) and 20 female controls (40 eyes) were included. Assessment of the retinal and choroidal anatomy was performed by optical-coherence-tomography, while multifocal-electroretinogram was used for measurements of the electrical activity of the macula. Statistical analysis was performed using t-test. RESULTS: Central macular thickness was found to be thinner in AN (140.04 ± 14.45, 150.85 ± 16.03, p = 0.007), like

Subretinal neovascularization after experimental ocular histoplasmosis in a subhuman primate.

Subretinal neovascularization was demonstrated in a subhuman primate eye (Macaca speciosa) one year after the internal carotid injection of yeast-phase Histoplasma capsulatum. In this animal model of ocular histoplasmosis, initial injection of viable H. capsulatum results in the development of self-limiting acute multifocal choroiditis. Acute lesions resolve within six months, forming chorioretinal scars that are clinically similar to human histo spots. Detailed ultrastructural study of a peripapillary scar 30 months after the injection showed the presence of subretinal neovascularization loca

[Acute multifocal placoid pigment epiteliopathy].

Acute multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy is a fairly rare disease with unknown etiology and pathogenesis, possibly a focal response to a systemic inflammatory process. We present the case of a young patient who developed bilateral placoid retinal lesions, in different stages of evolution - cicatriceal lesions of the right eye and mixed cicatriceal and active lesions of the left eye. Investigations showed old immunity to cytomegalovirus and toxoplasma. Fluorescein angiography showed the typical fluorescein pattern (hypoflurecence in early phases and hyperfluorescence in late phases). The
