Prediction of chronological age from resting-state EEG power in the first three years of life.

The infant brain undergoes rapid and significant developmental changes in the first three years of life. Understanding these changes through the prediction of chronological age using neuroimaging data can provide insights into typical and atypical brain development. We utilized longitudinal resting-state EEG data from 457 typically developing infants, comprising 938 recordings, to develop age prediction models. The multilayer perceptron model demonstrated the highest accuracy with an R2 of 0.82 and a mean absolute error of 92.4 days. Aperiodic offset and periodic theta, alpha, and beta power w

Spintronic Integrate-Fire-Reset Neuron with Stochasticity for Neuromorphic Computing.

Spintronics has been recently extended to neuromorphic computing because of its energy efficiency and scalability. However, a biorealistic spintronic neuron with probabilistic "spiking" and a spontaneous reset functionality has not been demonstrated yet. Here, we propose a biorealistic spintronic neuron device based on the heavy metal (HM)/ferromagnet (FM)/antiferromagnet (AFM) spin-orbit torque (SOT) heterostructure. The spintronic neuron can autoreset itself after firing due to the exchange bias of the AFM. The firing process is inherently stochastic because of the competition between the SO

A deep learning approach for lower back-pain risk prediction during manual lifting.

Occupationally-induced back pain is a leading cause of reduced productivity in industry. Detecting when a worker is lifting incorrectly and at increased risk of back injury presents significant possible benefits. These include increased quality of life for the worker due to lower rates of back injury and fewer workers' compensation claims and missed time for the employer. However, recognizing lifting risk provides a challenge due to typically small datasets and subtle underlying features in accelerometer and gyroscope data. A novel method to classify a lifting dataset using a 2D convolutional

Image Cytometry Data From Breast Lesions Analyzed using Hybrid Networks.

The treatment and therapy to be administered on breast cancer patients are dependent on the stage of the disease at time of diagnosis. It is therefore crucial to determine the stage at the earliest time possible. Tumor dissemination to axillary lymph nodes has been regarded as an indication of tumor aggression, thus the stage of the disease. Neural networks have been employed in many applications including breast cancer prognosis. The performance of the networks have often been quoted based on accuracy and mean squared error. In this paper, the performance of hybrid networks based on Multilaye

Predicting Metastatic Potential from Histopathological Whole Slide Images of Primary Tumors in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Using Attention-Based Deep Learning and Signaling Pathway Alterations.

BACKGROUND: Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) ranks as the 6th most prevalent cancer worldwide, imposing a significant burden on global healthcare systems. The progression to metastasis poses a substantial challenge in the clinical management of HNSCC and is a leading cause of patient mortality. Patients diagnosed with distant metastasis (DM) often have limited treatment options and predominantly receive palliative care. Therefore, timely detection of HNSCC patients at risk of metastasis is paramount for proactive intervention and close monitoring, offering the potential for early-

Development of an artificial intelligence prediction model for moderate-to-severe COPD exacerbations using continuous multiple unobtrusive sensors: protocol of a multicentre prospective observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Exacerbations, impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and reduced exercise capacity increase the risk of hospitalisations and death in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, their monitoring relies on in-person assessments, potentially delaying early care. While smart sensing technologies can enable remote monitoring, their use in predicting disease worsening remains limited. The TOLIFE Clinical Study A (CSA) aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model integrating clinical data with smart sensing devices data to predict exacerbation onset and ch

Breakthrough Recognition in Robotic-Assisted UBE Surgery Based on Force Sensing and VAE-MLP.

BACKGROUND: Robotic-assisted unilateral biportal endoscopic surgery (UBE) is a more accurate and safer technique than traditional open surgical operations. The penetration recognition of ultrasonic drilling remains one of the challenging techniques of robotic-assisted UBE surgery. METHODS: We propose a force and VAE-MLP-based method for real-time penetration recognition. During the ultrasonic drilling procedure, the force signals are collected and denoised via Kalman filtering first. The pre-processed data are then used to extract hidden features and perform classification by Variational Auto

A comparative study of severe thunderstorm among statistical and ANN methodologies.

Severe Thunderstorms are the extreme weather convective features. It causes local calamities in various ways. Proper prediction with lead time is an important factor to prevent such calamities from saving people. Here, both probabilistic and machine learning techniques are applied to weather data to obtain proper predictions. Traditional methodologies are already available for such prediction purposes. However, Naïve Bayes and RBFN (Radial Basis Function Network) methodology have been introduced here with some specific weather parameters that has not done before remarkably. A comparative study

Identification of 4-carboxyglutamate residue sites based on position based statistical feature and multiple classification.

Glutamic acid is an alpha-amino acid used by all living beings in protein biosynthesis. One of the important glutamic acid modifications is post-translationally modified 4-carboxyglutamate. It has a significant role in blood coagulation. 4-carboxyglumates are required for the binding of calcium ions. On the contrary, this modification can also cause different diseases such as bone resorption, osteoporosis, papilloma, and plaque atherosclerosis. Considering its importance, it is necessary to predict the occurrence of glutamic acid carboxylation in amino acid stretches. As there is no computatio

AllerTOP v.2--a server for in silico prediction of allergens.

Allergy is an overreaction by the immune system to a previously encountered, ordinarily harmless substance--typically proteins--resulting in skin rash, swelling of mucous membranes, sneezing or wheezing, or other abnormal conditions. The use of modified proteins is increasingly widespread: their presence in food, commercial products, such as washing powder, and medical therapeutics and diagnostics, makes predicting and identifying potential allergens a crucial societal issue. The prediction of allergens has been explored widely using bioinformatics, with many tools being developed in the last

Classification of heart murmurs using cepstral features and support vector machines.

Murmurs are auscultatory sounds produced by turbulent blood flow in and around the heart. These sounds usually signify an underlying cardiac pathology, which may include diseased valves or an abnormal passage of blood flow. The murmurs are classified based on their occurrence in different parts of the heart cycle; systolic murmurs and diastolic murmurs. This paper investigates features derived from cepstrum of the heart sound signals and use them to train three classifiers; k-nearest neighbor (kNN) classifier, multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks and support vector machines (SVM) for cl

An integrated evolutionary optimization and machine learning framework for predicting pharmacokinetics of nanocarrier-encapsulated drugs.

This study developed a machine learning framework for predicting the pharmacokinetic behavior of nanocarrier systems using integrated molecular, physicochemical, and formulation descriptors. A Multilayer Perceptron Regressor (MLPR) was employed as the baseline predictive model, while evolutionary optimization algorithms were used to optimize the neural-network architecture and training parameters. The framework was evaluated for predicting three pharmacokinetic endpoints: maximum concentration (Cmax), time to maximum concentration (Tmax), and area under the concentration-time curve (AUC). The
