Synthesis and biodegradation testing of some synthetic oils based on ester.

Synthetic ester oils are widely used in many applications due to their ideal cleaning properties, lubricating performance and assured polarity. The majority of esters oils are more biodegradable. than any other base stock. For instance, oil soluble polyalkyleneglycols (PAGs) or polyalphaolephins (PAOs), are only biodegradable in the lower viscosity grades. The goal of this study is to create some synthetic base oils by two major protocols; the first is esterifying valeric acid with various glycols (ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol and poly (ethylene glycol 400). The second in

Asphaltenes biodegradation from heavy crude oils by the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica.

Heavy crude oil reserves are characterized by their high viscosity and density, largely due to significant quantities of asphaltenes. The removal of asphaltene precipitates from oil industry installations is crucial, as they can contaminate catalysts and obstruct pipelines. Therefore, this study aimed to bio-transform heavy oil asphaltenes into smaller molecules using the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica, known for its ability to efficiently degrade hydrophobic substrates. For this purpose, asphaltenes were extracted from crude oil samples, and yeast growth was assessed in a mineral medium containing

In Vitro Efficacy of Terpenes from Essential Oils against Sarcoptes scabiei.

The mite Sarcoptes scabiei is responsible for the emerging or re-emerging skin disease called scabies in humans and sarcoptic mange in animals. Essential oils represent an appealing alternative strategy for the control of Sarcoptes infections, but the commercial development of essential oils may be hampered by their inconsistency in efficacy due to their varied chemical compositions. In order to address this issue, we assessed the efficacy of six components (carvacrol, eugenol, geraniol, citral, terpinen-4-ol, and linalool) against S. scabiei. At a concentration of 0.5%, carvacrol presented th

Antifungal Biofilm Inhibitory Effects of Combinations of Diclofenac and Essential Oils.

Systemic fungal infections have risen in recent decades and most of them are caused by Candida species, which are becoming increasingly resistant to conventional antifungal drugs. Biofilm production has been considered the most common growth form of Candida cells and is associated with a high level of antifungal resistance. At present, international research reports on the antifungal activity of non-traditional antimicrobial drugs and their potential use against life-threatening resistant fungal infections. Indeed, drug repurposing has led to the consideration of well-known compounds as a last

Nanoemulsion delivery systems for enhanced efficacy of antimicrobials and essential oils.

The ever-growing threat of new and existing infectious diseases in combination with antimicrobial resistance requires the need for innovative and effective forms of drug delivery. Optimal drug delivery systems for existing and newly developed antimicrobials can enhance drug bioavailability, enable site-specific drug targeting, and overcome current limitations of drug formulations such as short elimination half-lives, poor drug solubility, and undesirable side effects. Nanoemulsions (NE) consist of nanometer-sized droplets stabilized by emulsifiers and are typically more stable and permeable du

The effects of food essential oils on cardiovascular diseases: A review.

Essential oils (EO) are complex secondary metabolites, which are produced by aromatic plants and identified by their powerful odors. Present studies on EO and their isolated ingredients have drawn the attention of researchers to screen these natural products and evaluate their effect on the cardiovascular system. Some EO, and their active ingredients, have been reported to improve the cardiovascular system significantly by affecting vaso-relaxation, and decreasing the heart rate and exert a hypotension activity. Several mechanisms have been proposed for the role of EO and their main active com

The use of essential oils in veterinary ectoparasite control: a review.

There is a growing body of evidence indicating the potential value of essential oils as control agents against a range of arthropod ectoparasites, particularly lice, mites and ticks. Toxicity has been demonstrated following immersion and physical contact with treated surfaces, as well as after exposure to the vapour of these oils; the last of these factors implies that there is a neurotoxic, rather than simply a mechanical, pathway in their mode of action. However, the volatile nature of essential oils suggests that their residual activity is likely to be short-lived. A possible advantage of e
