Correlates of Mpox Vaccination among Sexual Minority Men in the United States: Sexual Behavior, Substance Use, and Main Partner Relationships.

Sexual minority men (SMM) have accounted for the majority of infections during the 2022 outbreak of the orthopox virus known as mpox (previously "monkeypox") in the US. This study examined correlates of mpox vaccination. Between July 28 and September 22, 2022, adult cisgender SMM (n = 2,620) not previously diagnosed with mpox responded to recruitment advertisements on social networking applications and completed an online survey. Of these, 730 (27.9%) received at least one vaccine dose. Logistic regression indicated sex with a casual partner was positively associated with vaccination. Stimulan

Shared and distinct psychosocial network patterns of suicidal ideation across four countries.

Cross-national examinations can clarify whether associations among theory-derived and social-cognitive factors related to suicidal ideation (SI) are shared or context-specific, yet evidence remains scarce. This study estimated an overall psychosocial network of SI and compared its structure across four countries. In a cross-sectional online survey conducted between June 2025 and January 2026, 2018 adults aged 18-60 years from Italy, Korea, the UK, and the US were recruited through online survey panels. Recruitment aimed for similar age and gender profiles across the countries. Participants com

Characterizing Socioecological Markers of Differentiated HIV Risk Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Indonesia.

HIV prevention programs typically focus on changing individuals' risk behaviors, often without considering the socioecological factors that can moderate this risk. We characterized HIV risk among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Indonesia (n = 1314) using latent class analysis and used multinomial logistic regression to identify latent class relationships with demographics, social/sexual networks, and community-level socioecological indicators of HIV risk. Three HIV risk latent classes were identified-"Sexually Moderate" (n = 333), "Sexual Explorative" (n = 575), and "Navigating Complexities

Students under lockdown: Comparisons of students' social networks and mental health before and during the COVID-19 crisis in Switzerland.

This study investigates students' social networks and mental health before and at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, using longitudinal data collected since 2018. We analyze change on multiple dimensions of social networks (interaction, friendship, social support, co-studying) and mental health indicators (depression, anxiety, stress, loneliness) within two cohorts of Swiss undergraduate students experiencing the crisis (N = 212), and make additional comparisons to an earlier cohort which did not experience the crisis (N = 54). In within-person comparisons we find that interactio

'… if U equals U what does the second U mean?': sexual minority men's accounts of HIV undetectability and untransmittable scepticism.

The everyday meaning and use of HIV 'undetectability' raises significant questions about the social and sexual significance of this state of viral suppression. We conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 25 sexual minority men living in Vancouver, Canada, including men living with HIV. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using grounded theory. Most participants understood being undetectable to signify that someone living with HIV is at a 'low,' 'lower,' or 'slim to no' risk of sexually transmitting HIV, as opposed to meaning 'uninfectious' or 'untransmi

The Role of Personal Social Networks in Parental Decision-Making for HPV Vaccination: Examining Support and Norms Among Florida Parents.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is crucial for preventing HPV-related cancers, yet vaccination rates remain suboptimal, particularly in Florida. Social influence, including family and peer support, may shape parental decisions to vaccinate their children. In this study, we examined the role of social networks (online and offline) in parental intention to vaccinate their 11- to 12-year-old children against HPV. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among 746 parents in Florida as part of the Text & Talk trial (2022-2023). Among other questions, parents reported on th

Factors Associated with the First-time HIV Testing Among Chinese men who have sex with men Who Received HIV Self-tests from Partners or Friends.

Secondary distribution of HIV self-testing (HIVST) among individual social networks was an effective approach to expanding HIV testing among men who have sex with men (MSM). However, understanding the factors associated with first-time HIV testing behaviors in the secondary distribution of HIVST programs is limited. Hence, this study aims to identify factors related to first-time testers in the secondary distribution of HIVST. Participants were recruited from five provinces in southern China through Blued, a geo-social gay networking app in China from January 2021 to December 2021. Eligible co

Living kidney donors and their family caregivers: developing an evidence-based educational and social support website.

CONTEXT: Although graft and patient survival rates for living kidney donation are improved, some healthcare providers question whether volunteer donors and their informal caregivers are fully informed of the donation process and the risks involved. Donors and their family caregivers have reported that they receive limited information about the predonation and donor recovery process. Offering web-based information and social support is one way to address this gap. STRATEGY: Living kidney donor candidates and their family caregivers participating in the Living Donor Information Network for Care

The Impact of Providers as Health Discussants on Black Women's Interest in PrEP for HIV Prevention.

This study sought to examine the role of providers as health discussants (HD) on interest in preexposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention in a national sample of adult Black cisgender women (N = 315). Health discussant networks, a type of social network, may be influential in HIV prevention efforts. These networks, often composed of individuals' families, have improved health utilization outcomes in other disciplines. However, health discussants in HIV prevention are understudied, especially when considering providers as network members. We conducted a cross-sectional online survey and collected

Virtual versus physical spaces: which facilitates greater HIV risk taking among men who have sex with men in East and South-East Asia?

Increasing use of the Internet to seek sex partners is accompanied by rising HIV infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) in East and South-East Asia. We examined whether the Internet facilitates greater HIV risk taking among MSM in the region. A cross-sectional sample of 9,367 MSM was recruited via the Internet in 2010. We compared socio-demographic and HIV-related behavioral characteristics among MSM who met sex partners on the Internet only, who met sex partners offline only, and who met sex partners through both. Multinomial logistic regression was used to identify independent corr

Identifying HIV-related digital social influencers using an iterative deep learning approach.

OBJECTIVES: Community popular opinion leaders have played a critical role in HIV prevention interventions. However, it is often difficult to identify these 'HIV influencers' who are qualified and willing to promote HIV campaigns, especially online, because social media influencers change frequently. We sought to use an iterative deep learning framework to automatically discover HIV-related online social influencers. DESIGN AND METHOD: Out of 1.15 million Twitter users' data from March 2018 to March 2020, we extracted tweets from 1099 Twitter users who had mentioned the keywords 'HIV' or 'AIDS

Combining Alcohol with Benzodiazepines or Psychostimulants. Metaphoric Meanings and the Concept of Control in the Online Talk of Polydrug Use.

The co-administration of different substances is a widespread practice in the context of hard drug use. Among others, alcohol combined with certain substances produces potentially dangerous interactions. This article explores how people who combine alcohol with benzodiazepines or psychostimulants perceive these practices and how they share their perceptions in Finnish and Swedish online discussions. This is carried out by analyzing discussants' use of metaphoric expressions. We found that the metaphors given to the use of these substance combinations reflect their pharmacological characteristi

Applying network analysis to explore family and peer influence on diet and health in households of Singaporean young adults: findings from an online network survey.

OBJECTIVE: The complexity and nuance of how social networks shape dietary behaviours and health dynamics remain underexplored, particularly in collectivist societies where family and peer relationships strongly impact health. This study applies social network analysis to examine these dynamics in Singapore. DESIGN: An online household survey of young adults (age 21-35) and family (21+) assessed the consumption of healthy food groups (fruit, vegetable intake), unhealthy food groups (fast food, snack consumption) and social network characteristics (interaction frequency, emotional closeness, sh
