Correlation between retinal defocus distribution and axial growth in myopic children wearing orthokeratology lenses.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose was to investigate the refractive status of different retinal regions in myopic children treated by orthokeratology (ortho-k) and its relationship with axial elongation. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study. Axial length measurements were retrospectively collected from 221 myopic children aged 9-15 years who underwent ortho-k lens wear for over 1 year. The relative peripheral refractive errors (RPREs) of different retinal zones were measured using multispectral refraction topography, and the distribution characteristics were analyzed. All subjects were divided i

Eleven years of orthokeratology contact lens wear for slowing myopia progression in children.

SIGNIFICANCE: The myopia control effect of orthokeratology accrues over time, with 11 years of lens wear providing a cumulative absolute reduction in axial elongation of -0.69 mm in comparison with spectacle lens wear. Steeper corneas are likely to benefit from enhanced myopia control efficacy. PURPOSE: To compare axial length growth between a group of orthokeratology contact lens wearers and a control group of distance single-vision lens wearers over an 11-year period. METHODS: White European subjects 6 to 12 years old with myopia -0.75 to -4.00DS and astigmatism ≤1.00DC were prospectively

Slowing Down Myopia Progression with Contact Lenses - Everyday Cases from the Clinic.

BACKGROUND: An estimated 49.8% of the world population will be myopic by 2050. Multifocal contact lenses (MFCLs) and orthokeratology (OK) reduce peripheral retinal hyperopic defocus, which animal studies have shown to positively impact eye growth. MFCLs are expected to slow myopic progression by 20 - 50% and OK by 30 - 60%, making them valuable therapeutic tools. In view of the guidelines for myopia management published by the International Myopia Institute in 2019, the aim of this retrospective data analysis of a tertiary care center was to review past experience with OK and MFCLs for myopia
