Four Surgical Modifications to the Classic Elastase Perfusion Aneurysm Model Enable Haemodynamic Alterations and Extended Elastase Perfusion.

OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an individual and socioeconomic burden in today's ageing society. Treatment relies on surgical exclusion of the dilated aorta by open or endovascular repair. For research purposes, animal models are necessary and the elastase induced aneurysm model closely mimics end stage human aneurysm disease. To improve the translational value of this model, four modifications to the classic elastase perfusion procedure (PPE) in relation to human aneurysm morphology were conducted. METHODS: In ten week old male C57BL/6J wild type mice the PPE proced

Patterns of disturbed myocardial perfusion in patients with coronary artery disease. Regional myocardial perfusion in angina pectoris.

Fifty patients who presented with angina pectoris were studied to examine the disturbances of regional myocardial perfusion during stress. Each patient underwent 16-point precordial mapping of the ECG during an exercise test, and coronary and left ventricular angiography. Regional myocardial perfusion was assessed using an atrial pacing test and a short-lived radionuclide, krypton-81m. Eleven patients had negative exercise tests and uniform increases in myocardial activity of krypton-81m of 98 +/- 18.0% during pacing. Ten patients performed 30,000-43,000 J in positive exercise tests. These pat

Effects of vesical and perfusion pressure on perfusate flow, and flow on vesical pressure, in the isolated perfused working pig bladder reveal a potential mechanism for the regulation of detrusor compliance.

AIMS: Although there is evidence that deficits in bladder blood flow negatively impact bladder function, the effects of vesical, and perfusion pressures on bladder perfusion (perfusate flow), and of perfusate flow on vesical pressure, remain poorly understood. The present study used the isolated perfused working pig bladder model to examine the relationships between blood flow, and vesical and perfusion pressures. METHODS: Vesical arteries of pig bladders obtained from a local slaughterhouse were cannulated and perfused with Krebs-Henseleit solution at different pressures, and with carbachol

Diffuse Perfusion Impairment Versus Global Myocardial Flow Reserve and Focal Perfusion Impairments in Patients Undergoing 82Rb-PET Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Although global myocardial flow reserve (MFR) is a powerful prognostic factor, it may overlook segmental abnormalities and does not differentiate focal from diffuse perfusion impairments. Therefore, we sought to assess whether integrated MFR provides incremental prognostic value beyond global MFR. METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing positron emission tomography myocardial perfusion imaging between 2019 and 2025 were included. For each patient, global MFR and the proportion of the myocardium with diffuse and focal integrated MFR impairment were quantified. The primary outcome

Diminished spinal cord perfusion despite distal aortic perfusion: an acute translational large animal experiment with occluded segmental arteries.

OBJECTIVES: Neuroprotective measures have been established in open thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm repair to reduce the incidence of postoperative paraplegia. Distal aortic perfusion (DaP) is meant to increase blood flow to the abdominal organs and the spinal cord. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage is part of peri- and postoperative clinical routine. We aimed to investigate the effect of both techniques on spinal cord perfusion in an acute large animal model with segmental artery occlusion. METHODS: Eight pigs underwent minimally invasive segmental artery coil embolization prior to establi

Role of Magnetic Resonance Perfusion Imaging in Acute Stroke: Arterial Spin Labeling Versus Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast-Enhanced Perfusion.

INTRODUCTION: The role of perfusion neuroimaging in managing cases of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is to identify ischemic penumbra and regions of hypo-perfusion, which can be salvaged. Dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion imaging techniques have been the main magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) perfusion techniques used to identify AIS. Arterial spin labelling (ASL) is an alternative non-invasive perfusion technique, which permits tissue perfusion measurement without any need for administration of exogenous contrast agents. The objective was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of ASL pe

Hybrid Assessment of Myocardial Ischemia Using Stress-Only Nuclear Myocardial Perfusion Imaging and Rest Computed Tomography Perfusion Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Sequential assessment using CT coronary angiography (coronary CT) and nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is considered an anatomical and functional evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD). However, there can be unexpected radiation exposure. Hybrid MPI with stress-only nuclear MPI and rest CT-MPI using coronary CT may contribute to reducing the radiation dose in sequential assessment with nuclear MPI after coronary CT. We analyzed the diagnostic performance and total radiation dose of hybrid MPI for detection of significant CAD compared with sequential assessment using

Association of Plasma Ceramides With Myocardial Perfusion in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Undergoing Stress Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy.

Objective- It is known that specific plasma ceramides are associated with stress-induced reversible myocardial perfusion defects in patients with established or suspected coronary artery disease undergoing myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS). However, it is currently uncertain whether plasma ceramides are also associated with reduced poststress myocardial perfusion in these patients. Approach and Results- We measured 6 previously identified high-risk plasma ceramide species (ceramide [d18:1/16:0], ceramide [d18:1/18:0], ceramide [d18:1/20:0], ceramide [d18:1/22:0], ceramide [d18:1/24:0], a

Clinical application of 3D arterial spin-labeled brain perfusion imaging for Alzheimer disease: comparison with brain perfusion SPECT.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Alzheimer disease is the most common neurodegenerative disorder with dementia, and a practical and economic biomarker for diagnosis of Alzheimer disease is needed. Three-dimensional arterial spin-labeling, with its high signal-to-noise ratio, enables measurement of cerebral blood flow precisely without any extrinsic tracers. We evaluated the performance of 3D arterial spin-labeling compared with SPECT, and demonstrated the 3D arterial spin-labeled imaging characteristics in the diagnosis of Alzheimer disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 68 patients with
