INTRODUCTION: Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) in China appear to have many characteristics different from those Western countries, but clinical studies to provide details have been rare so far.
METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed the characteristics of clinical and pathological data for the 1248 NHL patients in the Shandong region of China between 2002 and 2010.
RESULTS: From 2002 to 2010, the number of clinical cases of NHL increased year by year. Among the total, 64.7% were B-cell NHL, 30.3% were T-cell NHL, including: diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (40.9%), extranodal NK/T-c

The B220 isoform of CD45, a pan B-cell marker in mice, is expressed by only a subset of human B cells that do not express the memory B-cell marker CD27, suggesting that it is a differentiation-specific isoform of CD45. We examined normal human peripheral blood B cells, secondary lymphoid tissue, and a range of human B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders for the expression of B220 by flow cytometric immunophenotyping and immunohistochemical staining. We found that a subset of human B cells in peripheral blood is positive for B220 by flow cytometric immunophenotypic analysis. In reactive lymphoid

T cells engineered with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T cells) are an effective treatment in patients with relapsed/refractory B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia or B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Despite the reported exciting clinical results, the CAR-T cell approach needs efforts to improve the safety profile, limiting the occurrence of adverse events in patients given this treatment. Besides the most common side effects, such as cytokine release syndrome and CAR-T cell-related encephalopathy syndrome, another potential issue involves the inadvertent transduction of leukemia B cells

The WHO Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissue notes instances of Burkitt lymphoma/leukemia (BL) with IG-MYC rearrangement displaying a B-cell precursor immunophenotype (termed herein "preBLL"). To characterize the molecular pathogenesis of preBLL, we investigated 13 preBLL cases (including 1 cell line), of which 12 were analyzable using genome, exome, and targeted sequencing, imbalance mapping, and DNA methylation profiling. In 5 patients with reads across the IG-MYC breakpoint junctions, we found evidence that the translocation derived from an aberrant VDJ recombinat

We investigated the kinetics of generation of iron 'catalytic' for free radical reactions in children with diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) who received high-dose methotrexate infusions. In 76% of the chemotherapy courses studied, 'catalytic' iron appeared in plasma in the concentration range from 0.1 to 3 mumol/l. Positive correlations between maximum levels of 'catalytic' iron and plasma hepatic enzymes could be established in the majority of cases and in one subset of patients (low and medium risk ALL) mean 'catalytic' iron levels correlated well to clinically observable toxici

BACKGROUND: The Norwegian treatment protocol for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in adults was introduced in 1982 and has undergone minor changes thereafter. Earlier studies from The South Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority have reported 50 % five-year overall survival in patients treated according to this protocol. This article presents survival data for Norwegian adults with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on a national basis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data for all patients between 15 and 65 years, who were diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in the period 2000-2007 according to The

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has demonstrated unprecedented success in the treatment of various hematologic malignancies including relapsed or refractory (R/R) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Currently, there are two FDA-approved CD19-directed CAR-T cell products for the treatment of adults with R/R B-ALL. Despite high remission rates following CD19 CAR-T cell therapy in R/R B-ALL, remission durability remains limited in most adult patients, with relapse observed frequently in the absence of additional consolidation therapy. Furthermore, the burden of CAR-T cel

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a very rare complication of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). A Japanese boy presented with B-lineage ALL at the age of 2.5. He was treated with chemotherapy for standard-risk ALL. While he was receiving maintenance treatment 2 years and 9 months after the diagnosis of ALL, diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBL) was diagnosed from a biopsy of an abdominal mass. DLBL was treated by surgical resection followed by chemotherapy for 6 months. The patient has been free from the recurrence of ALL or DLBL for 16 months after the development of DLBL.

CONTEXT: Pleural involvement by lymphoma is relatively common. However, there are very few clinicopathologic studies reported in the literature of lymphomas involving the pleura.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize the clinicopathologic features of lymphomas involving the pleura.
DESIGN: We reviewed the clinicopathologic features of 34 patients with lymphoma involving the pleura proven by biopsy and classified these neoplasms using the World Health Organization classification.
RESULTS: There were 22 men and 12 women, with an average age of 62 years (range, 22-82 years). Nine (26.5%) patients had ple

B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) has many subtypes with diverse clinical and biological features and outcomes. Next generation sequencing has revealed several novel subtypes, including the ZNF384 and MEF2D rearrangements. The clinical characteristics and outcomes of the largest series of BCP-ALL cases with ZNF384 and MEF2D rearrangements in an international collaborative study are described here. Patients with ZNF384 rearrangements appear to express various leukemic phenotypes, including BCP-ALL (with or without abnormal expression of myeloid markers) and B/myeloid mixed

B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is the most common hematologic malignancy in children. High-risk B-ALL, due to factors such as poor early treatment response and adverse genetic features, is prone to drug resistance and relapse, resulting in an unfavorable prognosis and posing a major clinical challenge. In recent years, risk stratification based on molecular subtyping has driven optimization of therapeutic strategies, and precision, individualized treatment has become the focus of clinical research and practice. This review summarizes the research progress in individualized therapy

The association between mature B-cell phenotype and KMT2A rearrangements in acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a very rare finding. It identifies a group of patients with similar clinical and biological characteristics that clearly differs from the entity B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma with t(v;11q23)/KMT2A-rearranged, which typically presents an immature pro B-cell phenotype. We describe the clinical-biological characteristics and disease outcome of three pediatric ALL patients with these features treated at our institution, and review 28 cases described in the literature. Most cases occ

A 22-year-old man presented with multiple raised erythematous skin lesions, pyrexia and epistaxis. A diagnosis of common acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (C-ALL) was made by morphological, cytochemical, immunological and cytogenetic examination of peripheral blood and bone marrow. Biopsy of the skin revealed leukaemic infiltration by similar cells.

BACKGROUND: The development of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has significantly improved survival rates among patients with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph+) B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Ph-like B-ALL patients lack the BCR::ABL1 translocation but share gene expression profiles with Ph+ B-ALL. The role of TKIs for Ph-like patients pre- and post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is not yet clear.
CASE: Here we present five cases of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients who presented with Ph-like B-ALL or CML in B-ALL blast phase who were treated with person

BACKGROUND: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) secondary to acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a rare disease with poor prognosis, usually attributed to delayed diagnosis. To date, only four cases of ALL developing DLBCL have been reported, while none of them exhibiting central nervous system (CNS) symptoms.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Here, we report an unusual case of a 15-year-old boy diagnosed with ALL and treated based on the SCCLG-ALL 2016 protocol. While he was receiving maintenance treatment, the patient developed dizziness and vomiting. An Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive DLBCL with CNS

Cardiac lymphoma is rare in children. Treatment typically includes chemotherapy, combination of radiotherapy, or surgery. We report a case of stage IV precursor B lymphoblastic lymphoma with secondary involvement of the heart in an 11-year-old girl who was treated with acute lymphoblastic leukemia-based chemotherapy. Also, we review the literature on this uncommon malignancy.

We report a case of malignant lymphoma in a 15-year-old male. He had erythema and nodular lesions, hepatomegaly, and splenomegaly with high fever for one month. Laboratory examination revealed a normal blood routine test, a few lymphomatic cells in the bone marrow, and histopathologic changes characteristic of malignant lymphoma in a skin biopsy. Two months later, a second bone marrow examination showed 90% prolymphoblasts. The peripheral blood count revealed WBC 108 x 10(9)/L; among these, prolymphoblasts accounted for 92%. The patient was diagnosed as acute lymphocytic leukemia, and died 2 d
