Influence of multiple use of titanium and PEEK scan bodies on scan precision after sterilization and thermal disinfection: An in vitro study.

PURPOSE: We evaluated the influence of multiple uses of scan bodies after reprocessing cycles-steam sterilization and thermal disinfection-on the precision of implant position transfer. METHODS: Six mandibular models with two implants in regions 34 and 36 were fabricated. The implants were scanned with an intraoral scanner using pairs of titanium (SB_T_Pr) and polyether ether ketone (PEEK) (SB_P_Pr) scan bodies according to the manufacturers' recommendations. The scan body group underwent up to 15 standardized reprocessing cycles. The unreprocessed titanium group (SB_T_NPr) served as a contro

Direct intracranial recording of body-selective responses in human extrastriate visual cortex.

We recorded intracranial local field potentials (iLFPs) in right extrastriate visual cortex of a patient prior to surgery for epilepsy. Visual evoked potentials revealed a highly selective response to images of bodies, relative to faces, mammals, and tools, which was restricted to a focal region in the lateral occipitotemporal cortex that corresponds to the location of the extrastriate body area (EBA). Body-selective activity started around 190 ms and peaked 260 ms post-stimulus onset. These findings provide the first direct electrophysiological evidence for an early visual processing stage in

Probing the Role of RNA Helicases in Modulating Stress Granules, RNA Localization, and P-Body Docking.

Stress granules (SGs) are cytoplasmic, membrane-less ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granules that form in response to cellular stress following the inhibition of translation initiation. Their assembly, composition, and crosstalk with processing bodies (P-bodies) are mediated by protein-protein, RNA-protein, and RNA-RNA interactions. DEAD/DEAH-box RNA helicases are key regulators of stress granules. Here, we present standardized protocols for (i) immunofluorescence of stress granule and P-body scaffold proteins and helicases, (ii) single-molecule RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (smRNA FISH), an

Once you feel it, you see it: insula and sensory-motor contribution to visual awareness for fearful bodies in parietal neglect.

The interplay between the neural mechanisms of visual awareness and those involved in emotion processing and the mapping of related somatic changes remains unclear. To address this issue we studied one patient with visual extinction following right parietal damage, in a combined behavioral, psychophysiological and neuroimaging experiment. Patient M.P. was presented with neutral and fearful bodily expressions, either unilaterally in the left (LVF) or right visual field (RVF), or in both visual fields simultaneously. Fearful expressions presented in the left visual field simultaneously with neut

Configuration-sensitive face-body interactions in primate visual cortex.

Traditionally, the neural processing of faces and bodies is studied separately, although they are encountered together, as parts of an agent. Despite its social importance, it is poorly understood how faces and bodies interact, particularly at the single-neuron level. Here, we examined the interaction between faces and bodies in the macaque inferior temporal (IT) cortex, targeting an fMRI-defined patch. We recorded responses of neurons to monkey images in which the face was in its natural location (natural face-body configuration), or in which the face was mislocated with respect to the upper

Alu repeat-containing RNAs spatially organize actively transcribed genomic regions around nuclear speckles.

Nuclear speckles are nuclear bodies enriched with RNA-processing proteins. Highly transcribed genes and their nascent pre-mRNAs are organized around nuclear speckles, facilitating co-transcriptional RNA processing. However, the mechanisms underlying this spatial organization remain unclear. Here, we identified a class of Alu repeat-containing RNAs that are highly enriched in nuclear speckles. These RNAs interact with actively transcribed genes through their Alu elements, partially via R-loop formation. They also engage with nuclear speckle proteins, promoting their coalescence, phase separatio

Coal Flow Foreign Body Classification Based on ESCBAM and Multi-Channel Feature Fusion.

Foreign bodies often cause belt scratching and tearing, coal stacking, and plugging during the transportation of coal via belt conveyors. To overcome the problems of large parameters, heavy computational complexity, low classification accuracy, and poor processing speed in current classification networks, a novel network based on ESCBAM and multichannel feature fusion is proposed in this paper. Firstly, to improve the utilization rate of features and the network's ability to learn detailed information, a multi-channel feature fusion strategy was designed to fully integrate the independent feat

Roles of Edc3 in the oxidative stress response and CaMCA1-encoded metacaspase expression in Candida albicans.

The Edc3 protein is an enhancer of mRNA decapping, and acts as a scaffold protein for the mRNA granules that are known as processing bodies in yeast. In the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans, various stresses, such as glucose depletion, oxidative stress, and filamentation defects, induce the accumulation of processing bodies. Here, we report that the edc3/edc3 deletion strain showed increased resistance to various stresses, including hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid, and high temperature. Oxidative stress is known to induce the intracellular accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apop

[Diagnosis of spinal fractures using optical processing of the roentgenologic image].

X-ray examinations by a traditional method in 694 patients with non-complicated compression fractures in the thoraco-lumbar part of the vertebral column do not always give the exact picture of the character of fractures of the vertebral column. The method of optic processing the roentgen picture was used in 30 patients for more detailed analysis of structural changes in the vertebrae bodies. The method allowed to specify structural changes in the vertebra bodies, including the detection of the fracture plane, abruption of a body portion, detection of an additional contour of the limiting plate

Integration of head and body orientations in the macaque superior temporal sulcus is stronger for upright bodies.

The neural processing of faces and bodies is often studied separately, despite their natural integration in perception. Unlike prior research on the neural selectivity for either head or body orientation, we investigated their interaction in macaque superior temporal sulcus (STS) using a monkey avatar with diverse head-body orientation angles. STS neurons showed selectivity for specific combinations of head-body orientations. Anterior STS (aSTS) neurons enabled more reliable decoding of head-body configuration angles compared to middle STS neurons. Decoding accuracy in aSTS was lowest for head

TOR signaling regulates liquid phase separation of the SMN complex governing snRNP biogenesis.

The activity of the SMN complex in promoting the assembly of pre-mRNA processing UsnRNPs correlates with condensation of the complex in nuclear Cajal bodies. While mechanistic details of its activity have been elucidated, the molecular basis for condensation remains unclear. High SMN complex phosphorylation suggests extensive regulation. Here, we report on systematic siRNA-based screening for modulators of the capacity of SMN to condense in Cajal bodies and identify mTOR and ribosomal protein S6 kinase β-1 as key regulators. Proteomic analysis reveals TOR-dependent phosphorylations in SMN comp

P-body components LSM1, GW182, DDX3, DDX6 and XRN1 are recruited to WNV replication sites and positively regulate viral replication.

In mammalian cells, proteins involved in mRNA silencing and degradation localize to discrete cytoplasmic foci called processing or P-bodies. Here we show that microscopically visible P-bodies are greatly diminished following West Nile viral infection, but the component proteins are not depleted. On the other hand, many P-body components including LSM1, GW182, DDX3, DDX6 and XRN1, but not others like DCP1a and EDC4 are recruited to the viral replication sites, as evidenced by their colocalization at perinuclear region with viral NS3. Kinetic studies suggest that the component proteins are first

A close association of torsinA and alpha-synuclein in Lewy bodies: a fluorescence resonance energy transfer study.

TorsinA, a novel protein in which a mutation causes dominant, early onset torsion dystonia, may serve as a chaperone for misfolded proteins that require refolding or degradation. It has been hypothesized that misfolded alpha-synuclein, a protein in which two mutations cause autosomal dominantly inherited Parkinson's disease, serves as a nidus for the development of a Lewy body. We hypothesized that torsinA plays a role in the cellular processing of alpha-synuclein. We demonstrate that anti-torsin antibodies stain Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites in the substantia nigra and cortex. Using sensitive

Fat bodies responsible for the degradation of encapsulated foreign substances in the body cavity of Mythimna separata larvae.

In the immune systems of insects, the fat body synthesizes most of the immune proteins found in the hemolymph. We investigated a novel role for the fat body in immune processing of encapsulated parasitoid larvae using fat bodies from Mythimna separata (Ms) larvae. When first instar larvae of Cotesia kariyai (Ck) were transplanted into Ms larvae, time-dependent melanization and encapsulation occurred, and the surface area of Ck larvae began to decrease 24 h post-transplantation. Histological analysis revealed physical contact between encapsulated Ck larvae and the fat body of the host. In vitro

Two RING finger proteins, the oncoprotein PML and the arenavirus Z protein, colocalize with the nuclear fraction of the ribosomal P proteins.

The promyelocytic leukemia (PML) protein forms nuclear bodies which are relocated to the cytoplasm by the RNA virus lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV). The viral Z protein directly binds to PML and can relocate the nuclear bodies. Others have observed that LCMV virions may contain ribosomes; hence, we investigated the effects of infection on the distribution of ribosomal P proteins (P0, P1, and P2) with PML as a reference point. We demonstrate an association of PML bodies with P proteins by indirect immunofluorescence and coimmunoprecipitation experiments, providing the first evidence o

The BEACH Domain Protein SPIRRIG Is Essential for Arabidopsis Salt Stress Tolerance and Functions as a Regulator of Transcript Stabilization and Localization.

Members of the highly conserved class of BEACH domain containing proteins (BDCPs) have been established as broad facilitators of protein-protein interactions and membrane dynamics in the context of human diseases like albinism, bleeding diathesis, impaired cellular immunity, cancer predisposition, and neurological dysfunctions. Also, the Arabidopsis thaliana BDCP SPIRRIG (SPI) is important for membrane integrity, as spi mutants exhibit split vacuoles. In this work, we report a novel molecular function of the BDCP SPI in ribonucleoprotein particle formation. We show that SPI interacts with the

Task Context Modulates the Selectivity of Macaque Superior Temporal Sulcus Neurons for Partially Occluded Bodies.

Most single-unit studies of animate object processing in the primate ventral visual stream rely on passive fixation, leaving it unclear whether neuronal selectivity for socially relevant stimuli depends on behavioral context. Here, we tested whether task demands alter the selectivity of neurons in the ventral bank of the superior temporal sulcus (STS) for body pose or viewpoint. Male rhesus monkeys viewed identical body stimuli (monkey avatars) under two conditions: a task in which body pose was behaviorally relevant and a condition in which the same stimuli were irrelevant for obtaining a rew

Afferent innervation of the kidney: projections to and processing in the central nervous system.

FDA approval for catheter-based renal nerve ablation has sparked renewed interest in the role of renal nerves in hypertension and their potential contribution to other pathophysiologies. While the anti-hypertensive effects of catheter-based renal nerve ablation were thought to be due to the ablation of the sympathetic efferent nerves going to the kidney, preclinical hypertensive rodent studies and unexpected beneficial clinical outcomes have highlighted the renal afferent (sensory) nerves as a contributor to the pathogenesis of hypertension. Renal afferents are most abundant in the renal pelvi

LSM14A, an LSM family protein, is dispensable for spermatogenesis and male fertility in mice.

The LSM (Like-Smith) family comprises RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) that are key regulators of RNA metabolism. LSM14A, a member of this family (designated Lsm14a in mice), participates in RNA processing within cytoplasmic processing bodies (P-bodies). The mouse Lsm14a gene is localized to chromosome 7qB1, spans 48.67 kilobases (kb), and encodes a 462-amino-acid protein that exhibits 94.53 % amino acid identity with human LSM14A. However, the expression profile of LSM14A in male reproductive organs and its functional relevance to male fertility remain uncharacterized. In this study, we report tha
