Resilience in Adolescent Girls in Child Welfare: Reliability and Validity of the RS-14.

PURPOSE: Up to one-third of patients treated with primary radiotherapy (RT) for prostate cancer (PCa) experience biochemical failure (BCF). In selected cases, re-irradiation represents a salvage option. PSMA PET/CT is a valuable tool for detecting intraprostatic recurrence and guiding re-treatment planning. Although visual scoring systems such as the PRIMARY score (PS) have been proposed, none are currently validated for this setting. This pilot study investigates the role of a visual classification system in optimizing salvage re-irradiation strategies. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed p

Gamma knife irradiation of injured sciatic nerve induces histological and behavioral improvement in the rat neuropathic pain model.

We examined the effects of gamma knife (GK) irradiation on injured nerves using a rat partial sciatic nerve ligation (PSL) model. GK irradiation was performed at one week after ligation and nerve preparations were made three weeks after ligation. GK irradiation is known to induce immune responses such as glial cell activation in the central nervous system. Thus, we determined the effects of GK irradiation on macrophages using immunoblot and histochemical analyses. Expression of Iba-1 protein, a macrophage marker, was further increased in GK-treated injured nerves as compared with non-irradiate

Reirradiation With Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Spinal Metastases: Planning Procedure From a High-Volume Multidisciplinary Spine Oncology Program (SOaR2).

We sought to develop a systematic spine reirradiation planning protocol prioritizing patient safety and maximizing tumor dose delivery. Patients were presented at a Multidisciplinary Spine Oncology Tumor Board to confirm suspicion for recurrent or progressive malignancy and were evaluated in the clinic by the Department of Radiation Oncology and Neurosurgery. Suitable patients proceeded to computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging scan simulation. A dedicated physics pathway was activated with the fusion of the magnetic resonance imaging scan and planned CT scan, verified independent

[Radiotherapy and spinal toxicity: News and perspectives].

Radiation-induced myelopathy is a devastating late effect of radiotherapy. Fortunately, this late effect is exceptional. The clinical presentation of radiation myelopathy is aspecific, typically occurring between 6 to 24 months after radiotherapy, and radiation-induced myelopathy remains a diagnosis of exclusion. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most commonly used imaging tool. Radiation oncologists must be extremely cautious to the spinal cord dose, particularly in stereotactic radiotherapy and reirradiation. Conventionally, a maximum dose of 50Gy is tolerated in normofractionated radiothera

The Evolving Management of Radiorecurrent Prostate Cancer.

The detection of local radiorecurrence (LRR) of prostate cancer in the prostate or prostate bed after radiation therapy is increasingly common with the advent of advanced imaging modalities such as the PSMA PET/CT. Our aim is to review the literature and define the optimal workup for identifying LRR and discuss the key principals in management, with a focus on salvage re-irradiation. We performed a narrative review of the literature and ongoing studies centered on LRR workup and treatment. Workup for biochemical recurrence postradiation therapy includes PSMA PET/CT, multiparametric MRI, and sy

Patterns of care in primary brain tumour Reirradiation: A survey by the ESTRO CNS focus Group.

BACKGROUND: Reirradiation is increasingly considered for patients with recurrent primary brain tumours, yet clinical practices vary significantly due to limited evidence and a lack of standardized guidelines. This survey aimed to map European practice patterns in brain tumour reirradiation. METHODS: A 23-item web-based survey was developed by the ESTRO CNS Focus Group to assess institutional characteristics, clinical decision-making, and technical aspects of reirradiation. Distributed via email and social media, the survey collected responses between June-July 2025. Descriptive statistics wer

Long-Term Outcomes After Reirradiation With Spine Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy: Single-Institutional Retrospective Experience.

Reirradiation of spinal metastases using stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) presents clinical challenges, with limited patient outcomes data to guide decision-making. We report a retrospective, single-institutional experience of 107 lesions treated in 91 patients. Of these, 88 (72%) lesions were initially irradiated with conventional radiation therapy (median equivalent dose of 33 Gy to the target, IQR, 23-35 Gy) with a median time to reirradiation of 12 months (IQR, 4-21 months). For reirradiation, most lesions received either 1 fraction (18-24 Gy) or 3 fractions (30-36 Gy) of SBRT. T

Caudally directed posterior high-dose-rate brachytherapy for reirradiation of para-aortic lymph node recurrence: A technical innovation enabled by interventional radiology.

PURPOSE: Reirradiation for para-aortic lymph node (PALN) recurrence is technically challenging due to prior radiation exposure and the anatomical proximity of critical organs such as the small intestine and kidneys, making external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) difficult or unfeasible. High-dose-rate interstitial brachytherapy (HDR-IBT) offers a highly localized treatment alternative; however, it requires precise applicator placement to ensure safety and efficacy. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We report a case of PALN recurrence located between the aorta and inferior vena cava (IVC) in a patient pre

Second pelvic recurrence of rectal cancer successfully treated with a re-reirradiation (3rd radiation course).

INTRODUCTION: In case of pelvic recurrence of colorectal cancer, reirradiation of previously irradiated patients may increase the rate of salvage radical resection. Due to the high cumulative dose, one of the main concerns is radiation-induced lumbosacral plexopathy. This report describes multiple irradiations of a lesion adjacent to the lumbosacral plexus, using a highly selective technique, which allows optimal sparing of such a critical structure. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 53-year-old woman treated in 2008 for a locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma with preoperative pelvic irradiation and conc

Improvement, clinical course, and quality of life after palliative radiotherapy for recurrent glioblastoma.

The purpose of this review is to assess the palliative effect of re-irradiation in adult patients with recurrent supratentorial glioblastoma (GBM) previously treated with adjuvant or primary radiation therapy, with or without chemotherapy. From a comprehensive literature search, studies were identified reporting on survival, progression, and quality of life endpoints including, but not limited to, EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire, clinical symptoms, and ability to reduce dexamethasone. Data from more than 300 GBM patients (grade 3 anaplastic gliomas were excluded) demonstrate that re-irradiation yi

Evidence Gap in Managing Lateral Pelvic Lymph Nodes in Rectal Cancer: a Systematic Review of Radiation Boost Strategies.

PURPOSE: Lateral pelvic lymph node (LPLN) involvement is a significant predictor of local recurrence in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). While lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPLND) is routinely used in some countries to manage suspicious nodes, it is associated with increased morbidity and is not widely adopted in Western practice. Radiation boost (dose escalation) to involved LPLNs during neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) has emerged as a potential non-surgical alternative. Despite increasing adoption of radiation boost to clinically involved LPLNs, there remains
