Female reproductive history in relation to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung function in UK biobank: a prospective population-based cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: Sex differences in respiratory physiology and predilection for developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been documented, suggesting that female sex hormones may influence pathogenesis. We investigated whether aspects of female reproductive health might play a role in risk of COPD among women. DESIGN: Population-based prospective cohort study. SETTING: UK Biobank recruited across 22 centres in the UK between 2006 to 2010. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOMES MEASURES: We examined a range of female reproductive health indicators in relation to risk of COPD-related ho

Maternal reproductive history: a registry based comparison of previous pregnancy data derived from maternal recall and data obtained during the actual pregnancy.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the quality of data on previous pregnancies, based on maternal recall, to that of actual data in previous birth records, and to quantify to which extent recall based data bias results in epidemiologic studies on adverse reproductive outcomes. METHODS: Through linkage between agricultural censuses and the Medical Birth Registry, we identified 87,113 Norwegian female farmers with 174,764 single births in 1967-1991, including 533 late abortions (16-27 weeks). Data were linked into sibship records. In routine birth records, mothers provide information at each birth on previo

Chance of live birth in the first pregnancy after referral among patients with recurrent pregnancy loss is not influenced by their relatives' reproductive history.

Purpose: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is defined as three or more consecutive pregnancy losses and affects 1-3% of couples trying to conceive. Pregnancy loss is more common among RPL patients' siblings than in the general population. Our objective was to investigate whether first-degree relatives with pregnancy losses influenced the chance of live birth in the first pregnancy after referral among women with RPL.Materials and methods: This is a cohort study of 2138 women with RPL seen at the Danish RPL Unit at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet between January 1st 2000 and Decembe

[Application of single nucleotide polymorphism array for the identification of pathogenic copy number variations in fetuses with malformations and women with an adverse reproductive history].

OBJECTIVE: To apply single nucleotide polymorphism microarray (SNP array) for the detection of genome-wide copy number variations(CNVs) in fetuses with malformations and women with an adverse reproductive history, and to explore the correlation of rare CNVs with the clinical manifestations. METHODS: Amniotic fluid and umbilical cord blood samples were collected from 314 women with singleton pregnancy. SNP array was performed on samples where chromosomal abnormalities were excluded after G-banding analysis. RESULTS: Pathological CNVs were detected in 8.91% (28/314) of all samples, which inclu

Isolation of Coxiella burnetii from bovines with history of reproductive disorders in India and phylogenetic inference based on the partial sequencing of IS1111 element.

In the present study, a total of 158 blood samples from 148 bovines and 10 dogs having a history of reproductive disorders were screened for Coxiella burnetii by trans-PCR method. In case of bovines, 6.08% (9/148) blood samples comprised of 4.54% (4/88) cattle and 8.33% (5/60) buffaloes turned out to be positive for C. burnetii DNA while all the samples from dogs (10) were found negative. Of the 9 PCR-positive bovine blood samples, the organism could be isolated only from 3 cases of buffaloes by chick embryo inoculation method. Further, to predict the homology and genetic diversity, the recove

Effects of a high-fiber, low-fat diet intervention on serum concentrations of reproductive steroid hormones in women with a history of breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Diet intervention trials are testing whether postdiagnosis dietary modification can influence breast cancer recurrence and survival. One possible mechanism is an effect on reproductive steroid hormones. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Serum reproductive steroid hormones were measured at enrollment and 1 year in 291 women with a history of breast cancer who were enrolled onto a randomized, controlled diet intervention trial. Dietary goals for the intervention group were increased fiber, vegetable, and fruit intakes and reduced fat intake. Estradiol, bioavailable estradiol, estrone, estrone

The effect of carriers' reproductive choices and pregnancy history on sporadic severe haemophilia: A 20-year retrospective study through a regional registry.

INTRODUCTION: Haemophilias are X-linked inherited bleeding disorders, due to de novo F8/F9 gene variants in 30-50% of cases. The identification of causative variant in index cases (IC) is crucial for genetic counselling in related women. Over the last 20 years the Emilia-Romagna Regional Haemophilia Registry documented high proportions of sporadic severe haemophilia. AIM: To clarify if carriers' reproductive choices influence the sporadic/familial ratio of severe haemophilia. METHODS: Genetic counselling and genotyping in 221 relatives of severe IC were retrospectively reviewed, retrieving r

Hormone replacement therapy, reproductive history, and colorectal adenomas: data from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial (United States).

OBJECTIVE: Findings from some epidemiologic studies of colorectal cancer and adenoma suggest that the protective effect of post-menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may differ across categories of age and body mass index (BMI). We conducted an analysis of women participating in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial to investigate the relationship between HRT use and prevalent adenoma, both overall and across different population subgroups. METHODS: Women aged 55-74 were randomized to screening by flexible sigmoidoscopy at ten PLCO screening centers

Associations of reproductive history with cognitive impairment, depression, and anxiety in older women: a cross-sectional analysis of the CLHLS combined with Mendelian randomization.

BACKGROUND: With rapid global population ageing, older women bear a disproportionate burden of cognitive impairment, depression, and anxiety. Reproductive history, a unique and irreversible life course factor, may influence late-life cognitive and mental health. METHODS: We included 4,173 women aged ≥65 years from the 2017-2018 China Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. Standard scales assessed cognition and mood, followed by regression, network, and two-sample MR analyses. RESULTS: After adjustment, having more than four births was associated with a lower risk of cognitive impairment (OR

Disrupting the Reproductive Lives of Japanese American Families During Wartime: The Overlapping Histories of Removal, Incarceration, and Eugenic Sterilization, 1942-1946.

The World War II mass incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans disrupted families, enacted intergenerational trauma, and characterized Japanese Americans as inherent racial threats. This federal exercise in biopolitical management intersected with state-sponsored eugenic sterilization in California institutions. Linking War Relocation Authority and California Department of Institutions records, we document 32 Japanese American sterilization survivors during the wartime incarceration period (1942-1946). We show how federal and state authority converged to deprive Japanese Americans of civil

An examination of the association between forced sex history and reproductive coercion experiences among Black women attending STD clinics in Baltimore, MD, USA.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive coercion victimization (RCV) is a significant public health issue that negatively affects women's sexual and reproductive health outcomes. Less is known about reproductive coercion perpetration (RCP). Few studies have examined these phenomena among representative samples of Black women. METHODS: Retrospective data of women (n = 298) attending STD clinics in Baltimore, MD were analyzed. We calculated lifetime and 12-month prevalence reports of reproductive coercion, and reported values stratified by forced sex history. Binomial logistic regression models were used to e

Reproductive history differs by molecular subtypes of breast cancer among women aged ≤ 50 years in Scotland diagnosed 2009-2016: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The aetiology of breast cancers diagnosed ≤ 50 years of age remains unclear. We aimed to compare reproductive risk factors between molecular subtypes of breast cancer, thereby suggesting possible aetiologic clues, using routinely collected cancer registry and maternity data in Scotland. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 4108 women aged ≤ 50 years with primary breast cancer diagnosed between 2009 and 2016 linked to maternity data. Molecular subtypes of breast cancer were defined using immunohistochemistry (IHC) tumour markers, oestrogen receptor (ER), progesterone re

Exogenous sex hormones, menstrual and reproductive history, and risk of non-melanoma skin cancer among women: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis.

Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) are more frequent among men, but women (especially those aged < 40 years) have experienced steeper growth in their incidence rates in recent years. Hormonal factors were hypothesized to be playing a role in modulating NMSC risk, but the studies published to date provided conflicting results. We systematically reviewed and meta-analysed the studies focusing on the association between hormone-related characteristics (use of exogenous sex hormones, and aspects of menstrual and reproductive history) and the risk of NMSC among women. We included observational and ex

The influence of factors associated with past reproductive histories on migraines in middle-aged premenopausal women: a nationwide population-based study in Republic of Korea.

INTRODUCTION: Women can experience various reproductive events, such as pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and contraception, which cause long-term changes in female hormones. In middle-aged women, the prevalence of migraine is high, and a clear gender difference is evident. This study investigated the effects of factors associated with past reproductive events on the risk of new migraine in middle-aged premenopausal women. METHODS: The influence of reproductive factors on migraine in middle-aged women was investigated using the Korean National Health Insurance Service (KNHIS) and Korean Healt

How do reproduction, parenting, and health cluster together? Exploring diverging destinies, life histories and weathering in two UK cohort studies.

Life history theory researchers often assume reproductive, parenting and health behaviours pattern across a fast-slow continuum, with 'fast' life histories (typified by short lifespans, early maturation and investing in quantity over quality of children) favoured in poor quality environments and/or when resources are scarce. Some researchers further reduce this down to a simplistic 'fast' versus 'slow' dichotomy. Some of these ideas, with different theoretical motivations, are echoed in the 'diverging destinies' and 'weathering' frameworks developed in the social sciences. Whether clustering o

Premenstrual syndrome and traumatic childbirth perception: the role of childhood abuse, neglect history and taking reproductive health course: a cross-sectional study in Turkey.

INTRODUCTION: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and the perception of childbirth as traumatic are significant phenomena that can negatively impact women's psychological well-being, particularly during adolescence-a period marked by heightened emotional and physiological sensitivity. Emerging evidence suggests that early adverse experiences, especially childhood trauma, neglect, and various forms of abuse, may shape both the severity of PMS symptoms and the way childbirth is cognitively and emotionally perceived. In light of this, the present study aims to examine the mediating role of childhood trau

Reproductive history and age at natural menopause in US women: a cross-sectional analysis of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999 to March 2020.

OBJECTIVE: The associations of parity and gravidity with age at natural menopause (ANM) remain incompletely characterized. We examined parity-ANM and gravidity-ANM associations and explored non-live-birth pregnancies descriptively in a nationally representative sample of US women. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis used National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999 to March 2020 data and included women with confirmed natural menopause and ANM restricted to 30 to 59 years. Survey-weighted linear regression with multiple imputation estimated mean differences in ANM for parity and gr
