INTRODUCTION: Donor-site complications of free radial forearm flaps (FRFF) after closure with a split-thickness skin graft (STSG) have been reported repeatedly. Different types of closure of the donor site have been advocated to reduce donor-site complications. In our practice, a V-Y closure with a local full-thickness skin graft (FTG) is performed generally.
PURPOSE: A retrospective follow-up study was performed comparing subjective and objective outcomes of FTG versus STSG closure. FRFF donor site closure in 34 head and neck cancer patients (15 STSG, 19 FTG) was studied.
RESULTS: Both meth

Phytopesticides are human-friendly beside been easily accessible and bio-degradable, are therefore environmentally friendly compared to the synthetic pesticides which huge adverse effects on human, animals and the ecosystem. Plants are large reservoir of secondary metabolites largely untapped or under-tapped for use as pesticides. One problem associated with this is to identify plants which can be assessed and further exploited for this use. Borreria verticillata belongs to Rubiaceae, it is native to South Americas but gained popularity globally. It is known as a weed, showing resistance to ma

The bioactivity guided fractionation of the dichloromethane extract of Mitracarpus frigidus afforded the pyranonaphthoquinone psychorubrin. This compound, hitherto unknown in the genus Mitracarpus, had its biological activity evaluated against one panel of bacteria and two fungi, three tumor cell lines (HL60, Jurkat and MCF-7) and four Leishmania species. Its identity was confirmed unambiguously by (1)H, (13)C, (1)H-COSY, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Psychorubrin displayed a very promising antitumor with IC(50) of 4.5, 5.6 and 1.1 µM for HL60, Jurkat and MCF-7 cell lines,

The saponins of Chiococca alba are triterpene bidesmosides that contain glycidic moieties attached to the C-3 and C-28 carbon of their aglycone. We describe that their adjuvant potential increases in direct relationship to the length and hydrophilicity of the C-28 attached sugar chain which contains: arabinose-rhamnose in the CA2, arabinose-rhamnose-xylose in the CA3X; arabinose-rhamnose-apiose in the CA3 and arabinose-rhamnose-apiose-apiose in the CA4 saponin. The hydrophile/lipophile balance calculated for CA2 was 12.7, for CA3 and CA3X was 15.8 and for CA4 19.9. All saponins were formulated
