An analysis of salivary gland neoplasms: a 12-year, single-institution experience in Turkey.

The epidemiology of salivary gland tumors worldwide is not very well defined. Although many studies on this subject have been undertaken, the data are generally focused on specific topics such as parotid gland neoplasms or tumors of the major salivary glands. We conducted a study to establish the prevalence and distribution of benign and malignant neoplasms of both the major and minor salivary glands at a single institution. We reviewed 244,204 cases that had come through our pathology department from January 1994 through December 2005 and found 235 cases of a salivary gland neoplasm (0.09%).

Risk of Retinal Detachment After Intravitreal Injection of Anti-VEGF: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

TOPIC: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the literature-pooled risk of retinal detachment (RD) following intravitreal injection (IVI) of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Intravitreal anti-VEGF injections are the most frequently performed intraocular procedure, with RD remaining a poorly quantified complication. Pooled estimates equip clinicians to contextualize RD risk during informed consent. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD420251175527). Clinicopathologic analysis with immunohistochemistry for DNA mismatch repair protein expression in synchronous primary endometrial and ovarian cancers.

OBJECTIVE: Synchronous primary endometrial and ovarian cancers have been an important topic in clinical medicine because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish whether there are 2 primary tumors or a single primary tumor and an associated metastasis. In addition, although these tumors are recommended for either immunohistochemistry for DNA mismatch repair (MMR) proteins or a microsatellite instability test in the Bethesda guidelines as Lynch syndrome-associated cancers, few studies have completed these analyses. In this study, we characterized the clinicopathologic features and the expressio

Tranexamic acid for patients with nasal haemorrhage (epistaxis).

BACKGROUND: Epistaxis (nosebleed) most commonly affects children and the elderly. The majority of episodes are managed at home with simple measures. In more severe cases medical intervention is required to either cauterise the bleeding vessel, or to pack the nose with various materials. Tranexamic acid is used in a number of clinical settings to stop bleeding by preventing clot breakdown (fibrinolysis). It may have a role in the management of epistaxis as an adjunct to standard treatments, reducing the need for further intervention. OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of tranexamic acid (ora

Dermatitis Artefacta: A Study of 42 Patients With Management Considerations.

BACKGROUND: Dermatitis artefacta (DA) is a primary psychiatric disorder in which patients self-inflict skin lesions to attract the attention of family members to release emotions or simply gain compensation. Studies involving patients with DA are difficult to conduct because patients typically move from one hospital to another. Moreover, very little has been written about its treatment, as most published series of cases have been presented without reporting the follow-up. OBJECTIVES: To study the characteristics and therapeutic results in patients with dermatitis artefacta followed up at a un

Topical instillation of BCG immunotherapy for biopsy-proven primary upper urinary tract carcinoma in situ: A single institution series and systematic review.

Primary upper tract carcinoma in situ (UTcis) is a rare disease whose diagnosis and natural history are poorly understood. Radical nephroureterectomy is the standard of care but in imperatives or selected cases, topical instillations of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) may represent a good alternative. The aim of this study was to report the histologic response to BCG instillations for the treatment of biopsy-proven UTcis and to systematically assess the current evidence on topical BCG instillation for the treatment of UTcis. This is a retrospective analysis of patients with biopsy-proven UTcis

Into the Wild, Out of the Woods: A Systematic Case Study on Facilitating Emotional Change.

Cognitive and behavioral treatment programs for individuals who have committed sexual offenses (ISOs) have shown significant but small effect sizes. A growing body of research points toward the importance of difficulties in affect regulation (AR) as a risk factor for sexual recidivism. On this basis, it seems important to target difficulties in AR in treatment. The current systematic case study investigates the potential contribution of emotion-focused therapy (EFT) to changing problematic AR in ISOs. Kevin was a high-risk offender with a traumatic history who met the diagnostic criteria of pe
