Malignant mesenchymomas are rare soft tissue tumors that contain two or more distinct histologic subtypes of sarcoma within the same tumor. Although experience with these tumors is limited, they are generally considered high grade neoplasms and are associated with a poor prognosis. Here we present radiologic findings of a case with malignant mesenchymoma in the retroperitoneum.

We report a rare case of a rhabdoid tumor of the elbow in a 6-year-old child. Rhabdoid tumors are aggressive and rare neoplasms, usually found in the kidneys or soft tissues, and their occurrence in the elbow is exceptional, potentially delaying diagnosis. Imaging plays a key role in the evaluation, allowing assessment of tumor extent and its relationship with surrounding structures. In our patient, it revealed a solid, infiltrative mass in the distal third of the long head of the left biceps, with lobulated contours and intermediate T2 signal, showing moderate and heterogeneous enhancement af

Histiocytic sarcoma is a neoplasm arising from the histiocytes. Histiocytic neoplasms are among the rarest malignancies of lymphatic tissues. Occurs in less than 1% of all malignancies affecting lymph nodes and soft tissues [1,2]. The exact incidence of histiocytic sarcoma has not been described so far. In this article, we report three patients with HS, who were treated at the departement of Internal medicine, haematology and oncology, Faculty Hospital Brno. Despite the fact that all these patients had the same disease, the treatment effects differ depending on the stage of the disease at the

BACKGROUND: Angiofibroma of soft tissue (AFST) is a rare benign fibroblastic/myofibroblastic neoplasm. Despite several published studies describing the clinicopathological features of AFSTs, its cytological characteristics remain poorly documented. This study aimed to identify distinctive cytological features that may support accurate diagnosis.
METHODS: The authors reviewed 16 histologically confirmed AFST cases diagnosed at their institution between 2007 and 2025. The cytological specimens were evaluated for stromal composition, vascular patterns, cellularity, and cytomorphology. Fluorescen

INTRODUCTION: Recently, a standardized reporting system for soft tissue cytopathology was introduced. The aim is to evaluate the diagnostic utility of FNA in the diagnosis of bone and soft tissue lesions by comparing the cytological and histopathological diagnoses in a large group of cases and to determine the risk of malignancy (ROM) rates according to the World Health Organization (WHO) Reporting System for Soft Tissue Cytopathology.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The pathology databases were searched for cases that underwent FNA for bone and soft tissue lesions between 2020 and 2023. Only cases th

Intraneural extension of soft tissue sarcomas is uncommon; it is most frequently seen in malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, but its occurrence is exceptional in synovial sarcoma. We describe a case arising extraneurally within the deep soft tissues of the forearm, which recurred and resulted in above-elbow amputation, revealing an unexpected finding of diffuse intraneural extension of tumor within a macroscopically normal major nerve. Despite macroscopic and microscopically clear soft tissue margins, the neoplasm had "traveled" a significant distance intraneurally to involve the neural r

Osteoma is a slow-growing, benign and uncommon neoplasm located primarily in the region of the maxillofacial skeleton. An extraskeletal soft-tissue osteoma is exceedingly rare. Here, we report a case of soft-tissue osteoma occurring in the pterygomandibular space in a 66-year-old woman. The patient complained of a hard mass superior to the left posterior teeth. Clinical examination did not reveal any extraoral swelling, facial asymmetry or difficulty in mouth opening, and the regional lymph nodes were non-palpable. CT images revealed well-circumscribed dense, radiopaque masses located between

'Intracranial mesenchymal tumor, FET-CREB fusion-positive' occurs primarily in children and young adults and has previously been termed intracranial angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) or intracranial myxoid mesenchymal tumor (IMMT). Here we performed genome-wide DNA methylation array profiling of 20 primary intracranial mesenchymal tumors with FET-CREB fusion to further study their ontology. These tumors resolved into two distinct epigenetic subgroups that were both divergent from all other analyzed intracranial neoplasms and soft tissue sarcomas, including meningioma, clear cell sarcoma o

Primary serosal neoplasms demonstrate a wide spectrum of growth patterns and biologic aggressiveness. The adenomatoid tumor is uniformly benign, whereas the diffuse malignant mesothelioma pursues a downhill clinical course, rapidly leading to fatality. The cystic peritoneal mesothelioma occupies an intermediate position characterized by persistent and/or recurrent disease but without progression to death. The distinction of an epithelial mesothelioma from metastatic adenocarcinoma remains a challenging problem. In the vast majority of cases, this can be accomplished by combining routine histoc

Alveolar soft part sarcoma is a rare neoplasm of uncertain histogenesis that belongs to a newly defined category of ultra-rare sarcomas. The neoplasm is characterized by a specific chromosomal translocation, der (17) t(X; 17)(p11.2;q25), that results in ASPSCR1-TFE3 gene fusion. The natural history of alveolar soft part sarcoma describes indolent behaviour with slow progression in deep soft tissues of the extremities, trunk and head/neck in adolescents and young adults. A high rate of detection of distant metastasis at presentation has been reported, and the most common metastatic sites in dec

Minor salivary gland neoplasms with mesenchymal-like features are uncommon in the sinonasal tract. We herein report a case of spindle cell myoepithelioma of the nasal cavity in a 69-year-old woman who presented with a rapidly expanding tumor accompanied by episodes of epistaxis. Although initially considered as a mesenchymal neoplasm, ultrastructural and immunophenotypical characterization demonstrated its myoepithelial nature. In the sinonasal setting, this unusual neoplasm may be confused with soft tissue tumors showing spindle cell or myxoid features. Staining for cytokeratin is found to be

Myoepithelial carcinoma is an uncommon malignant tumor of neoplastic myoepithelial cells. Myoepithelial carcinoma may arise in salivary glands or within soft tissues, and myoepithelial carcinomas of salivary and soft tissue types are generally regarded as distinct. Fusions involving EWSR1 are a molecular hallmark of soft tissue myoepithelial carcinomas; however, salivary myoepithelial carcinomas typically lack these fusions. We report an unusual high-grade myoepithelial carcinoma arising in the submandibular gland of a man in his 20s, initially diagnosed as extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma due to a

BACKGROUND: Primary epithelioid angiosarcoma (EA) is an exceptionally rare malignant vascular tumor with aggressive behavior and nonspecific imaging features. Femoral involvement is particularly uncommon and may mimic other destructive bone neoplasms.
CASE REPORT: We describe two men with primary EA of the femur. One patient presented with progressive right hip pain and a pathological fracture of the proximal femur, whereas the other presented with progressively worsening pain in the distal left thigh. Imaging demonstrated destructive osteolytic lesions with intramedullary involvement and var

Electrochemotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment based on the principle of reversible electroporation of target cells in pathologic tissues in order to increase the local effect of chemotherapeutic agents. The mechanism of action relies on temporarily increasing cell permeability to increase the uptake of cytotoxic drugs in the intracellular space. Originally developed for the treatment of cutaneous malignancies, electrochemotherapy has significantly evolved over the past few decades, thanks to advancements in electrode design and image guidance, finding fertile ground in musculoskeletal

Cryoablation (CA) is an image-guided, minimally invasive technique that is gaining traction in the treatment of both benign and malignant soft tissue and bone tumors. This narrative review presents the current evidence supporting its clinical applications in both curative and palliative settings. In malignant tumors-including soft tissue sarcomas and bone metastases-cryoablation provides effective local control, particularly in cases of recurrence, inoperability, or metastatic disease, and enables chemotherapy-free intervals, contributing to improved quality of life. In benign lesions, such as

Skin sarcomas are tumors that are superficial and small in size in comparison with other sarcomas arising in intramuscular or intrabdominal sites. Skin sarcomas are often underrecognized and misdiagnosed. A high level of suspicion is needed, as early recognition and appropriate management including initial surgery is important for oncologic outcomes. Here, the epidemiology, clinical presentation, management, and surveillance of 4 common cutaneous sarcomas are reviewed.

BACKGROUND: A mammary-type myofibroblastoma is a rare soft tumor; extramammary myofibroblastomas are especially rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 51-year-old woman presented to our department for evaluation of a mass on the right lower abdominal wall. The mass was then excised completely. Gross examination showed a huge, well-circumscribed soft tissue mass. The pathologic diagnosis was an extramammary myofibroblastoma. There was no recurrence after excision at the 6-month follow-up visit.
CONCLUSIONS: A mammary-type myofibroblastoma is a benign soft tissue neoplasm. No malignant behavior and/or rec

A cartilaginous choristoma is a nonneoplastic nodular growth of histologically normal cartilage in an abnormal site. This report describes a case of a cartilaginous choristoma on the lateral surface of the tongue in a 65-year-old woman. The entire lesion was excised, and histologic examination revealed mature cartilaginous tissue surrounded by dense connective tissue. Choristomas are rare findings in the oral cavity, easily confused with proliferative processes or soft tissue neoplasms. Nevertheless, choristomas may be part of the differential diagnosis for lesions similar to the one described

Mesenchymal tumors with GLI1 fusions or amplifications have recently emerged as a distinctive group of neoplasms. The terms GLI1-altered mesenchymal tumor or GLI1-altered soft tissue tumor serve as a nosological category, although the exact boundaries/criteria require further elucidation. We examined 16 tumors affecting predominantly adults (median age: 40 years), without sex predilection. Several patients had tumors of longstanding duration (>10 years). The most common primary site was soft tissue (n = 9); other sites included epidural tissue (n = 1), vertebra (n = 1), tongue (n = 1), hard pa
