Clinical applications of frameless stereotactic devices in neurotology: preliminary report.

Conventional stereotactic surgery has been utilized primarily for intracranial neuro-surgical procedures. Despite their utility, head-frame systems are restrictive and often inconvenient, thus they have not proved applicable for neurotologic surgery. Recently frameless stereotactic navigational systems have been developed that employ three-dimensional digitizers to transform the coordinates in surgical space to the corresponding image space, without the employment of head frames. This allows the determination of position of a surgical instrument in real time during surgery, and its display on

Use of O-arm navigation in percutaneous pedicle screw fixation for thoracolumbar fractures in patients with ankylosing spinal disorders: reducing intraoperative radiation exposure-a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spinal disorders (ASD), including ankylosing spondylitis and diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, markedly increase spinal rigidity and susceptibility to highly unstable thoracolumbar fractures. These injuries often require long-segment posterior fixation, which conventionally relies on C-arm fluoroscopy and exposes operating staff to cumulative radiation. O-arm-based intraoperative navigation may reduce radiation exposure while maintaining pedicle screw accuracy; however, evidence in ASD-related fractures remains limited. The aim of this study was to compare intrao

Congenital Scoliosis: A Case-Based Approach.

Congenital scoliosis is lateral curvature of the spine caused by vertebral anomalies. Congenital scoliosis is associated with congenital anomalies of other organ systems. Traditionally, treatment options for patients with congenital scoliosis focused on posterior spinal fusion. Current surgical treatment options for young children include growing rods, vertical expandable prosthetic titanium ribs, and, most recently, magnetic rods. Hemivertebrae resection is an important early treatment option for patients who have a hemivertebra. Intraoperative navigation may be an important tool that can be

Mixed Reality in the Reconstruction of Orbital Floor: An Experimental and Clinical Evaluative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Orbital floor fractures are common within midface fractures. Their management includes restoration of orbital volume and anatomy. However, these procedures could be associated with the mispositioning of implants and inadequate volume restoration. Nowadays medical rapid prototyping, virtual planning (VP), and navigation systems significantly increase the precision of such procedures. Nevertheless, the application of intraoperative navigation could be associated with intraoperative mistakes related to two-dimensional imaging. The application of mixed reality (MR) could solve this p
