1. The bioavailability of two 5 mg tablet formulations of carbimazole (Neomercazole [A] and Carbazole [B]) have been compared in six euthyroid subjects. There was considerable inter-patient variation in absolute bioavailability although, for each subject, peak plasma concentrations of methimazole were similar with both formulations. 2. Mean peak plasma concentrations were seen on average 62 min after administration of tablet A as compared to 40 min after tablet B. The effectiveness of Benoral Tablets in controlling joint pain and stiffness in osteoarthritis was assessed over a two-week period in a multicentre general practice open study. In this trial it has been demonstrated that a correlation exists between pain relief from stiffness for patients suffering from osteoarthritis taking Benoral Tablets over this period. It was also found that patients with initially mild to moderate pain benefited most from their treatment.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of the current study was to develop an extended release (XR) tablet formulation for ranolazine using Eudragit L 100-55 and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) K100M in an appropriate composition. BACKGROUND: Peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum (PPG) is a variant of pyoderma gangrenosum (PG). It results from a pathergy response to trauma from effluent from the ostomy or secondary to trauma caused by removal of the ostomy appliance adhesive in contact with the skin. Currently, no evidence-based guidelines for the management of PPG exist. The objective of the present study was to develop microballoons aided gastro-retentive floating tablets of baclofen, a skeletal muscle relaxant with a low elimination half-life of ~ 3.5 h. Baclofen floating tablet was prepared to offer convenience by designing a tablet that would float in the stomach for a prolonged period and allow controlled drug release to enable once-a-day administration. Ethylcellulose microballoons (ECMBs) prepared by pseudo emulsion solvent diffusion method were employed as floating aid. The ECMBs were spherical with a size of 446.71 µm and a circularity index of 0.995.

OBJECTIVE: An epidemic of scopolamine poisonings occurred in Oslo in 2008 among users of illicit drugs, caused by fake Rohypnol pills. The clinical features, diagnostic process, and handling of the epidemic are presented.
