Better Prognosis After Complete Revascularization Using Contemporary Coronary Stents in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease.

BACKGROUND: The prognostic value of angiographic complete revascularization in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) has not been thoroughly investigated, especially for contemporary coronary stents. We compared the clinical outcomes of complete and incomplete revascularization with second-generation drug-eluting stent, according to the presence of CKD. METHODS: From the Grand Drug-Eluting Stent Registry (N=17 286) in Korea, we selected 8471 patients, who were treated with second-generation drug-eluting stent and had glomerular filtration rate and quantitative coronary angiography data (

Side-Branch Intervention After Crossover Stenting for Medina 0.0.1 and 0.1.0 Left Main Bifurcation Lesions (The Multicenter SIBIS Study).

The clinical value of routine side-branch intervention (SBI) following crossover stenting (CSI) for Medina 0.0.1 or 0.1.0 left main (LM) bifurcation lesions remains uncertain because randomized evidence is lacking and observational data are limited. We evaluated whether systematic SBI after CSI improves long-term clinical outcomes in this setting. This multicenter retrospective study included 871 patients (72% men; mean age 63.8 ± 12.5 years) who underwent CSI for Medina 0.0.1 or 0.1.0 LM bifurcation lesions at 13 high-volume centers between 2012 and 2026. Patients were divided according to wh

Interleukin-1 Blockade in Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Across the Spectrum of Coronary Artery Disease Complexity.

Patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and complex coronary artery disease (CAD) face a poor prognosis, including increased heart failure (HF) risk. Phase 2 clinical trials of anakinra have shown inhibition of the acute inflammatory response and prevention of HF after STEMI, but data on its effects based on CAD complexity are lacking. We performed a pooled secondary analysis of 139 patients with STEMI. The SYNTAX (Synergy Between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery), SYNTAX II, and Gensini scores were calculated, and patients were divided

The Association of SYNTAX and Mehran Scores with Inflammation in Patients with Contrast-Induced Nephropathy Secondary to Acute Coronary Syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is the third most common cause of hospital-acquired acute renal failure. The increased use of contrast material in diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures has made CIN a frequently encountered problem in clinical cardiology practice. Our study aims to understand the role of inflammatory biomarkers in patients developing CIN and to evaluate the relationship of inflammation with the Mehran Score (MRS) and SYNTAX (SYNERGY Between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with TAXUS and Cardiac Surgery) Score (SS). METHODS: The study

Action of the plant-based essential oil-derived compound Taxol for improvising drought tolerance in Eucalyptus by modulating the VIT1 channel protein: a cutting-edge computational approach.

Background: Drought poses a significant threat to the growth and survival of woody plants, especially Eucalyptus grandis, which is known for its slow and steady growth. Understanding the physiological and molecular responses of E. grandis to abiotic stress is essential for developing strategies to improve its drought resistance. This study focuses on the potential vulnerability of E. grandis during the initial months of root system proliferation and investigates the role of the essential oil-derived compound Taxol in enhancing its drought resistance. Methodology: A comprehensive analysis was p

Sirolimus- or paclitaxel-eluting stents to prevent coronary artery restenosis.

The restenosis rate is lower with stent implantation than with balloon angioplasty. Nevertheless, even with the use of stenting, restenosis still occurs in approximately one-third of patients with diabetes, small coronary vessels, and long lesions. The two drugs commonly used in eluting stents are sirolimus and paclitaxel. Systemically administered sirolimus decreased vascular proliferation in animal models. After preliminary trials showing benefit with sirolimus-eluting stents in de novo coronary lesions, the large-scale SIRIUS (Sirolomus-coated Bx Velocity balloon-expandable stent in the tre
