BACKGROUND: We present the case of a 72-year-old female patient with gallbladder cancer (GBC) who developed in situ recurrence and liver metastases 9 mo after irreversible electroporation ablation and oral tegafur (a fluoropyrimidine derivative) chemotherapy, which failed to control the progression of the disease. The patient further developed metastases in the lymph nodes around the head of the pancreas. The patient had severe anemia, requiring weekly blood transfusions. The gallbladder tumor invaded the descending part of the duodenum, causing intestinal leakage and hepatic colonic adhesion.

We retrospectively investigated the incidence of ophthalmic disorders in patients treated with a regimen containing S-1 at our institution. BACKGROUND: To report the results of a phase II trial combining celecoxib and preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for locally advanced rectal cancer.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with clinical stage II or III rectal cancer were treated with radiotherapy of 44 Gy in 22 fractions. Concurrent chemotherapy consisted of oral tegafur-uracil and folinate on days 1-30 and 38-65. Celecoxib (400 mg/day) given from days 1 to 65. Surgery was done on day 70. The expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) in tumor tissues was evaluated microscopically as a prognostic factor.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a non-thermal focal therapy that utilizes high voltage electric pulses to permanently rupture the cellular membrane and induce cell death. In this multi-center study, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of IRE in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC).
METHODS: From 2012 to 2015, we performed laparotomic and laparoscopic IRE in a total of 70 patients with stage III LAPC. Either gemcitabine-based or TS-1 (Tegafur, Gimeracil, and Oteracil) chemotherapy was applied for at least 3 months before the IRE.
