A reassessment of the Andean genus Myopella Malloch (Diptera: Anthomyiidae).

The small Andean genus Myopella Malloch with two included species, M. angustifrons Malloch and M. appendiculata (Stein), is re-examined with special attention to the morphology of the male and female abdomen and terminalia. Adult morphology corroborates the current position of Myopella as an Andean endemic genus of Anthomyiidae, but its position within the anthomyiid tree remains in doubt despite the newly attained morphological knowledge. The status of the name Myopinella Michelsen, as proposed recently to replace for the preoccupied name Myopella Malloch, is clarified.

Isolation and characterization of antimicrobial compounds in plant extracts against multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii.

The number of fully active antibiotic options that treat nosocomial infections due to multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is extremely limited. Magnolia officinalis, Mahonia bealei, Rabdosia rubescens, Rosa rugosa, Rubus chingii, Scutellaria baicalensis, and Terminalia chebula plant extracts were previously shown to have growth inhibitory activity against a multidrug-resistant clinical strain of A. baumannii. In this study, the compounds responsible for their antimicrobial activity were identified by fractionating each plant extract using high performance liquid chromato

Is a filum terminale with a normal appearance really normal?

INTRODUCTION: Tethered spinal cord is defined as a condition in which the conus medullaris ends at a level below the L1-2 intervertebral space. The spinal cord is considered to be tethered when there is a thick filum terminale or low-lying conus medullaris. It has also been reported that a normal level of the conus medullaris and normal thickness of the filum terminale do not mean that there is no cord tethering. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this investigation, we examined 21 fila terminalia; 5 of them were taken from cadavers, and these were used as a control group (group 1; n/n), 8 from patien

Computational Identification of Triphala-Derived Sterol Compounds as Putative Agonists of the Human Takeda G Protein-Coupled Receptor (TGR5).

The presence of an unbalanced gut microbiome and the dysregulation of bile acid signalling are considered pivotal causes of various inflammation-based diseases. The Takeda G protein-coupled receptor (TGR5), TGR5 is a bile acid-responsive receptor that modulates inflammatory signalling pathways, making it an enticing molecular target for the discovery of novel anti-inflammatory agents. Herein, a comprehensive in silico approach was employed to identify potential TGR5 agonists from sterol-rich phytocompounds present in Triphala, a traditional polyherbal formulation. Using in silico computational

Phytochemical Analysis of Triphala Extract, In Vitro and In Silico Evaluation of Pancreatic Lipase Inhibition for Obesity Management.

Pancreatic lipase (PL) inhibition is a prominent pharmacological strategy for managing obesity, as it reduces the hydrolysis of dietary triglycerides (TAG) into free fatty acids and monoglycerides. Orlistat, an FDA-approved drug, achieves a 30% reduction in body fat through irreversible covalent inhibition of PL. However, the gastrointestinal side effects limit its long-term use. To address these issues, we explored inhibition using natural compounds from Triphala (TRI), a renowned Ayurvedic formulation comprising three plants - Emblica officinalis (EO), Terminalia bellirica (TB), and Terminal
