Gas-phase electron diffraction was applied for the molecular structure determination of octamethylporphyrin tin(II), SnN(4)C(28)H(28), at the temperature of 706(10) K. The molecule was found to possess C(4v) symmetry with the Sn atom 1.025(30) Å above the plane of the N atoms and the following main internuclear distances (r(h1), Å): Sn-N = 2.301(9), C(α)-N = 1.360(8), C(α)-C(β) = 1.453(4), C(α)-C(m) = 1.395(4), C(β)-C(CH3) = 1.498(4). Quantum chemical calculations, DFT (B3LYP, BP86, PBE, PBE0) with cc-pVDZ, cc-pVTZ and cc-pVQZ basis sets reproduce the experimental bond distances with accuracy

In the title polymeric coordination compound, [Sn(CH(3))(3)(C(6)H(5)O(2)Se)](n), the Sn(IV) atom has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry, with two O atoms of two symmetry-related bridging phenyl-seleninate anions in axial positions and three methyl groups in equatorial positions. In the title compound, [Sn(C(6)H(5))(C(8)H(9)S)(3)], the Sn atom has an approximately tetra-hedral SNCS(3) geometry, with angles at this atom ranging from 105.13 (3) to 113.54 (9)°. The title compound, [Sn(2)(C(6)H(5))(6)(C(8)H(5)NO(4))], contains two triphenyl-tin groups bridged by a 2-amino-terephthalate ligand. The two Sn(IV) centers have similar distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometries. Each Sn(IV) atom is bonded to three phenyl C atoms and one O atom from a carboxyl-ate group. The other O atom of the carboxyl-ate group has a weak inter-action with the Sn atom. The amino group is disordered over two sites, with site-occupancy factors of 0.779 (11) and 0.221 (11). Intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed.

The Sn atoms in the dinuclear title compound, [Sn(2)Br(2)(C(7)H(7))(4)(OH)(2)], exist in distorted trigonal-bipyramidal BrSnC(2)O(2) coordination geometries. Each of the two independent dinuclear mol-ecules comprising the asymmetric unit is disposed about a center of inversion. In the crystal, molecules are linked by an O-H⋯ hydrogen bond.

Tin is commonly used as a coating on copper kitchen appliances, and "tinsmithing" as a trade is common in many non-Western countries, where cooking utensils are re-tinned when the cooking surface wears thin. Herein, we describe the formation of silica structures on indium tin oxide (ITO) surfaces using poly-L-lysine (PLL) to template the condensation of silicic acid. Precisely controlled electrostatic fields were used to preposition PLL onto ITO surfaces. A new tin recycling method for Stille couplings catalytic in tin is reported. PMHS made hypercoordinate by KF((aq)) allows Me(3)SnH to be efficiently recycled during a Pd(0)-catalyzed hydrostannation/Stille cascade. Tin oxide thin films prepared by thermal oxidation of Sn films were used for the detection of chlorinated methanes (CH2Cl2, CHCl3 and CCl4). This resulted in better chemical selectivity, sensitivity, response speed and detection limit than seen with previous detectors. The temperature dependence of the sensing of 1% CCl4 gas was studied and the best sensing behavior was observed at 300 degrees C.
