This report presents a case of Charcot-Marie-Tooth dominant intermediate D (CMTDID), a rare subtype of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, in a 52 years-old male patient. The patient exhibited mobility impairment, foot abnormalities (pes cavus), and calf muscle atrophy. Whole exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing suggested that a novel variant (NM_000530.8, c.145C>A/p.His49Asn) of MPZ may be the genetic lesion in the patient. The bioinformatic program predicted that the new variant (p.His49Asn), located at an evolutionarily conserved site of MPZ, was neutral. Our study expands the variant spectrum o

Ameloblastic fibroodontoma (AFO) is a rare entity of mixed odontogenic tumors and frequently arises from posterior portion of the maxilla or mandible in first two decades of life. Herein, a 35-year-old woman with a noncontributory medical history who presented with a progressive left maxillary toothache, left maxillary first molar tooth mobility, and swelling in the left maxillary molar area for the last 2 months was reported. Radiologically, a tumor that originated from periapical area of the second mature molar teeth of maxilla was seen and additively unerupted tooth was not detected. The hi

Pathologic tooth migration is a change in tooth position resulting from disruption of the forces that maintain teeth in a normal position in relation to their arch. The disruption of the equilibrium in tooth position may be caused by various etiologic factors. Loss of attachment apparatus along with a non periodontal related condition such as excess occlusal force, a progressive migration of tooth may take place. Mostly this migration can be associated with aesthetic damage of the smile line. To solve these issues, a combination of periodontal and orthodontic treatment is often needed. In this

Fungi and bacteria often engage in complex interactions, such as the formation of multicellular biofilms within the human body. Knowledge about how interkingdom biofilms initiate and coalesce into higher-level communities and which functions the different species carry out during biofilm formation remain limited. We found native-state assemblages of Candida albicans (fungi) and Streptococcus mutans (bacteria) with highly structured arrangement in saliva from diseased patients with childhood tooth decay. Further analyses revealed that bacterial clusters are attached within a network of fungal y

Objective: This study is aimed at detailing a technique for digitally fabricated fixed restoration for both immediate replacement after extraction and splinting of the adjacent mobile teeth. Clinical Considerations: Demand for a fixed restoration of the missing teeth in the mandibular anterior region is very common but sometimes problematic for dentists. It often happens that there is significant loosening of the remaining teeth adjacent to the missing tooth, which should be splinted. This case report describes a digitally fabricated fixed restoration for both replacing lost teeth and splintin

BACKGROUND: Drug-induced gingival enlargement is a common condition which can be observed in patients taking immunosuppressive medications following organ transplant surgery. The disfiguring excessive tissue often hinders proper oral hygiene practices, therefore accompanied by periodontitis, tooth mobility, and even pathological tooth migration in extreme cases. This case report presents a conservative treatment protocol for a patient with the aforementioned conditions involving neither surgical nor orthodontic intervention. Few related studies have reported such a noninvasive protocol for man

Localized aggressive periodontitis (LAP) in child involving primary dentition is a rare disease. The main characteristics of LAP are deep periodontal pockets, bone loss, tooth mobility, and, sometimes, spontaneous tooth loss. The LAP involves only some specific teeth. Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is a rare autosomal recessive bleeding disorder. The paper's aim is to present the case of a 5-year-old girl with GT presenting LAP, and discuss her clinical management. Severe traumatic injuries to immature teeth often cause damage to periodontal ligament as well as dental pulp; pulp necrosis, root resorption and subsequent apical lesion are common consequences. This article reports the surgical management of an infected immature maxillary central incisor associated with a gigantic periradicular lesion and severe root resorption. The tooth had a history of trauma and the patient suffered from purulent sinus tract and tooth mobility. After unsuccessful multi-session disinfection with calcium hydroxide, root end surgery was planned. During flap surgery and lesi

Traumatic intrusion injury of permanent teeth is serious with multiple complications possible associated with the pulp, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone and Hertwig's epithelial root sheath. The optimal treatment for the management of an intrusion injury has not yet been determined. A case is presented involving the conservative management of an immature maxillary permanent central incisor intrusively luxated by allowing for re-eruption and orthodontic extrusion two weeks later. After a follow-up period of ten months, the intruded tooth continued to show a mobility of grade one, without met

AIM: To present two successful cases involving management of endodontic-periodontal combined lesions with root resection and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) therapy.
SUMMARY: Mesiobuccal resection surgery was performed concomitant with GTR therapy to manage endodontic-periodontal combined lesions on teeth 17 and 26. The increased mobility after the periodontal surgery gradually decreased during the healing period. At 15 and 20 month follow-ups, respectively, the teeth showed no mobility, 2-3 mm pocket depths and no further bone loss.
KEY LEARNING POINTS: Treatment of periodontally involved

Tooth luxations are relatively common. In case of concussion or subluxation the tooth is not displaced. The treatment will consist of relief of the tooth. Most frequent complications are pulp necrosis and obliteration of pulpal tissues. In case of extrusive luxation pulpal tissues and the periodontal ligament are injured. When tooth mobility is increased flexible splinting should be considered. Endodontic treatment is necessary after extrusive luxation of a tooth with completed root formation. Teeth with open apex often show pulpal obliteration after extensive luxation. Lateral luxation is mor

BACKGROUND: Assigning a prognosis to a periodontal patient is one of the greatest challenges in clinical practice. Many different factors can affect the result of periodontal therapy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of some clinical, genetic, and radiographic variables in predicting bone level variation in periodontal patients (aged 40 to 60) treated and maintained for 10 years.
METHODS: Sixty consecutive non-smoking patients (mean age 46.77 +/- 4.96) with moderate to severe chronic periodontitis were treated with scaling and root planing (SRP). Some patients al

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the relationship between Radiographic Residual Vertical Defects (RVDs) and the progression of periodontitis in patients undergoing periodontal maintenance therapy (PMT).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Teeth with RVDs were compared to the same contralateral teeth in the same patient. The study investigated the effect of smoking, diabetes, compliance, disease Stage, and Grade, baseline probing depth (PD), periodontal risk score (PRS), baseline pocket closure (PC) (≤ 4 mm), and tooth mobility on disease progression. We calculated the need for retreatment during PM

The purpose of this study was to observe the changes in bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (B-ALP) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (TRAP-5b) in a patient diagnosed with short root anomaly (SRA). The detailed clinical data and history of related clinical symptoms of the SRA patient were retrieved. Oral examination showed that the shape and color of the tooth crown were normal. Tooth 11 and 12 were missing, and the mobility degree of other teeth was II-III. Panoramic radiograph examination showed that the root length only reached the neck of the tooth. Laboratory results showed that b
