OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this study was to verify if shear-wave elastography (SWE) can be used to diagnose ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE). The secondary objective was to compare the cross-sectional areas (CSA) of the ulnar nerve in the cubital tunnel and to determine a cut-off value for this parameter accurately identifying persons with UNE.
METHODS: The study included 34 patients with UNE (mean age, 59.35 years) and 38 healthy controls (mean age, 57.42 years). Each participant was subjected to SWE of the ulnar nerve at three levels: in the cubital tunnel (CT) and at the distal arm

PURPOSE: Establishing minimally clinically important difference (MCID) for patient-reported outcomes questionnaires is an important component of outcomes research to understand treatment effectiveness from the patient's perspective. For patients with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE), these assessments are vital to examine how much change in the questionnaire scores equate to patient satisfaction.
METHODS: We calculated the change in scores of Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, and Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (CTQ) f

This report concerns a case of a 32-year-old male with right ulnar neuropathy caused by arterio-venous fistula due to gunshot wound injury presenting with severe neuropathic pain along the ulnar nerve distribution. Intra-operative exploration and ligation of the fistula relieved the patient`s neuropathic pain. A review of the recent English literature did not reveal any reports of arterio-venous fistula of the ulnar nerve.

INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE: Unlike carpal tunnel syndrome, little is known about injection with corticosteroids in patients with an ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE). The purpose of this feasibility study is to see whether injection with corticosteroids is safe in patients with UNE and whether there are grounds to launch a prospective placebo-controlled study on the effects of corticosteroids.
METHODS: Patients with clinical symptoms of UNE and a nerve conduction study compatible with UNE or thickened ulnar nerve at the elbow (> 10 mm(2)) by ultrasonography were included. All included patient

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether there are differences in nerve excitability properties between proximal and distal stimulation sites in the ulnar nerve in healthy controls, which may provide information on whether alteration in ion channel function predisposes to the development of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow.
METHODS: Nerve excitability studies were undertaken in 11 healthy controls. Studies were undertaken with stimulation of the ulnar nerve at the elbow and wrist. Recordings were obtained from abductor digiti minimi in both sets of studies.
RESULTS: Recordings obtained following stimulatio

INTRODUCTION: Digital neuropathy is a pure sensory neuropathy of a digital nerve. It may be caused by acute or chronic local trauma or pressure, or accompany systemic illnesses such as rheumatoid disease, leprosy, Raynaud disease, dysproteinemia, or diabetes mellitus. We describe an extraordinary case of digital neuropathy of the median and ulnar nerves caused by Dupuytren contracture.
CASE REPORT: A 56-year-old right-handed man was presented with numbness and tingling of the little finger of the right and ring finger of the left hand. The clinical and EMG findings in this patient were consis

Background: Cubital Tunnel Syndrome (CuTS) is the second-most common compressive neuropathy of the upper limb, traditionally associated with prolonged elbow flexion, trauma, or anatomical constraints. With the widespread adoption of smartphones, sustained upper-limb postures have emerged as potential novel risk factors for ulnar nerve compression. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between smartphone use patterns and the development of CuTS. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 100 subjects recruited between 2021 and 2024, including

BACKGROUND: Myofascial pain syndrome may coexist with other musculoskeletal conditions, including entrapment neuropathies. The relationship between myofascial dysfunction and entrapment neuropathy remains poorly understood, and the evaluation and management of patients presenting with overlapping symptomatology can be challenging.
CASE REPORT: We report on the use of trigger point injections (TPIs) in a 49-year-old woman with median and ulnar entrapment neuropathies and concurrent myofascial pain. The patient underwent a series of 8 TPI sessions targeting muscles of the shoulder, arm, and han

This case series highlights both pain and function outcomes of three patients who underwent hydrodissection of the ulnar nerve with platelet lysate and prolotherapy for symptomatic ulnar nerve entrapment of the elbow. All patients reported significant long-term symptom improvement, which reached more than 75% regarding pain and function and greater than 80% Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation (SANE) evaluation at the follow-up. The outcomes of this case series suggest that hydrodissection with platelet lysate and dextrose neuroprolotherapy may provide an alternative viable non-surgical treatm

PURPOSE: To report clinical and electrodiagnostic (EDX) findings in ulnar neuropathy at the wrist (UNW).
METHODS: This is a monocentric study. We collected demographic and clinical data, history, symptom type, neurologic examination findings, EDX results, as well as causes and risk factors of UNW.
RESULTS: We enrolled 150 consecutive cases. Based on EDX findings, the most common UNW pattern involved the ulnar nerve at the entrance of Guyon canal, prior to its bifurcation into sensory and motor branches (44% of cases). We identified atypical topographic lesions involving the superficial senso

Background: Ulnar neuropathy after a distal radius fracture is rare and has limited reports in literature. As such, there is no consensus regarding the optimal treatment and management of such injuries. We report our experience with managing these uncommon injuries. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted where patients presenting with ulnar neuropathy after sustaining a distal radius fracture were identified from January 2021 to December 2023 from our hospital database. Results: A total of four patients were identified. All of them underwent surgical fixation for their respective fractu

BACKGROUND: Double crush syndrome refers to a nerve in the proximal region being compressed, affecting its proximal segment. Instances of this syndrome involving ulnar and cubital canals during ulnar neuropathy are rare. Diagnosis solely through clinical examination is challenging. Although electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) can confirm neuropathy, they do not incorporate inching tests at the wrist, hindering diagnosis confirmation. We recently encountered eight cases of suspected double compression of ulnar nerve, reporting these cases along with a literature review.

Ulnar neuropathy is a common peripheral neuropathy, with cubital tunnel compression being the second most frequent upper extremity compression syndrome. Ganglion cysts, though rare, can contribute to ulnar nerve compression in the cubital tunnel. Here, we present a case of a 62-year-old farmer with longstanding diabetes and dyslipidemia who experienced progressive pain and numbness in his medial fingers, exacerbated by elbow flexion. Initially misdiagnosed and treated for Hansen's disease. Clinico-radiological evaluation revealed a multiloculated cystic lesion in the posteromedial aspect of hi
