Meningococcal serogroup B vaccines: Estimating breadth of coverage.

Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B (MenB) is an important cause of invasive meningococcal disease. The development of safe and effective vaccines with activity across the diversity of MenB strains has been challenging. While capsular polysaccharide conjugate vaccines have been highly successful in the prevention of disease due to meningococcal serogroups A, C, W, and Y, this approach has not been possible for MenB owing to the poor immunogenicity of the MenB capsular polysaccharide. Vaccines based on outer membrane vesicles have been successful in the prevention of invasive MenB disease caused

The Caribbean experience in maintaining high measles vaccine coverage.

The Caribbean subregion was the first area of the world to eliminate measles. From 1991 through 2010, the 21 countries of the subregion were remarkably successful in maintaining their measles-free status despite importations of the virus from areas where it continues to circulate. This task has been accomplished by ensuring that each country in the subregion maintains measles vaccine coverage of ≥95%. The absence of measles is the result of a collaboration between the various national authorities and the Pan American Health Organization in ensuring vaccination campaigns to deliver the second d

[Vaccine coverage survey of the elderly in 11 Italian regions].

In 2002, a sample survey of the population > or =65 years of age was conducted in 11 Italian regions that included information on the influenza, pneumococcal, and tetanus vaccination status. In each region, cluster sampling was used to select 210 individuals. In the Campania region, a separate random sample of 100 individuals was selected for Naples. Information on vaccination status was collected via an interview conducted in the participants' homes. A total of 2299 persons participated in the survey. During the 2001--2002 influenza season, 61% of the population reported that they had been va

An Overview of Coverage of BCG Vaccination and Its Determinants Based on Data from the Coverage Survey in Zhejiang Province.

To assess the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination coverage in Zhejiang province and to investigate predictors of the BCG vaccination, we used data from the 2017 Zhejiang provincial coverage survey. Demographic and immunization data on the selected children, their mothers, and their families were also collected by using a pre-tested questionnaire. BCG scars were verified among children who were available at the moment of survey. Coverage of BCG and other expanded program on immunization (EPI) vaccines scheduled before the first year of life was calculated. BCG coverage through the scar as

Oral and Inactivated Polio Vaccine Coverage and Determinants of Coverage Inequality Among the Most At-Risk Populations in Ethiopia.

Combining oral (OPV) and inactivated (IPV) poliovirus vaccines prevents importation of poliovirus and emergence of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus. We measured the coverage with IPV and third dose of OPV (OPV-3) and identified determinants of coverage inequality in the most at-risk populations in Ethiopia. A national survey representing 10 partly overlapping underserved populations-pastoralists, conflict-affected areas, urban slums, hard-to-reach settings, developing regions, newly formed regions, internally displaced people (IDPs), refugees, and districts neighboring international and

Vaccine-related internet search activity predicts H1N1 and HPV vaccine coverage: implications for vaccine acceptance.

The Internet is a primary source for health-related information, and Internet search activity is associated with infectious disease outbreaks. The authors hypothesized that Internet search activity for vaccine-related information would predict vaccination coverage. They examined Internet search activity for H1N1 and human papilloma virus (HPV) disease and vaccine information in relation to H1N1 and HPV vaccine uptake. Google Insight for Search was used to assess the volume of Internet search queries for H1N1- and vaccine-related terms in the United States in 2009, the year of the H1N1 pandemic

Nationwide Routine Childhood Vaccination Coverage During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Jordan: Current Situation, Reasons, and Predictors of Vaccination.

BACKGROUND: The healthcare system in Jordan faced substantial burden during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic including disruption of routine childhood vaccination services. AIMS: We sought, for the first time, to describe the impact of the 2020 pandemic on vaccination coverage of Jordanian children in Jordan and to identify the key contributing factors. METHODS: Nationwide vaccination rates were retrieved from the electronic records at the Ministry of Health (2018-2020) enrolling crude births of 220,057 Jordanian children during 2020. Records of doses administered were compared for each month of 2

Upgrading the school entry vaccination record check strategy to improve varicella vaccination coverage: results from a quasi-experiment study.

BACKGROUND: The school entry vaccination record check strategy (SECS) is an appropriate opportunity to recommend vaccines for students to improve vaccination coverage (VC). However, it is only utilized for providing necessary catch-up vaccination for students who are missing the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) vaccines in China. We aimed to address that gap and quantify the relationship between the SECS policy and the increase of coverage in varicella vaccine (VarV). METHODS: We employed a pretest and posttest quasi-experimental design to examine the effect of the upgraded SECS policy

Family Pediatrician and Public Health collaboration, an alliance to increase vaccination coverage: an experience with MenB vaccination in Italy.

BACKGROUND: Invasive Meningococcal Disease is a severe disease mainly affecting infants and young children. Most infections are caused by serogroups A, B, C, W, X, and Y. In the last 10 years, serogroup B has been the main cause of Invasive Meningococcal Disease in Europe. Recent data resulting from an observational study conducted in Italy show a significant reduction in the number of Invasive Meningococcal Disease cases due to Neisseria meningitidis B after the introduction of vaccine 4CMenB. Thus, the Naples Team of Federation of Italian Primary Care Pediatricians and the Public Health Depa

Assessing BCG vaccination coverage and incidence of paediatric tuberculosis following two major changes in BCG vaccination policy in France.

INTRODUCTION: Cobicistat (COBI) is a pharmacoenhancer and one of the components of ECF/TDF (elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir DF), which is approved in treatment-naïve HIV patients with creatinine clearance (CrCl) ≥70 mL/min. Study 118 assessed the renal safety of COBI-containing regimens in HIV patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Phase 3, open label study in HIV-1-infected patients with CrCl 50-89 mL/min who are virologically suppressed on a stable regimen containing ritonavir (RTV)-boosted atazanavir (ATV) or darunavir (DRV). Patients switche

Infant vaccination coverage in 2005 and predictive factors for complete or valid vaccination in Flanders, Belgium: an EPI-survey.

To assess changes in infant vaccination coverage in Flanders since 1999, an EPI-survey was performed in 2005. The parents of 1354 children aged 18-24 months were interviewed at home and the vaccination documents were checked. Several factors possibly related to vaccination status were examined with parametric and non-parametric methods. The coverage rate of recommended vaccines, i.e. poliomyelitis, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, H. influenzae type b (Hib), hepatitis B, measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and meningococcal C, reached at least 92.2%, which is a significant rise for MMR, hepatitis B and H

Relationships Between Social Vulnerability and Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination Coverage and Vaccine Effectiveness.

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination coverage remains lower in communities with higher social vulnerability. Factors such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) exposure risk and access to healthcare are often correlated with social vulnerability and may therefore contribute to a relationship between vulnerability and observed vaccine effectiveness (VE). Understanding whether these factors impact VE could contribute to our understanding of real-world VE. METHODS: We used electronic health record data from 7 health systems to assess vaccination c

Mass media coverage and vaccination uptake: evidence from the demand for meningococcal vaccinations in Hungary.

We estimate the effect of mass media coverage of the meningococcal disease on the uptake of meningococcal vaccinations in Hungary. Our analysis is based on administrative county-level data on vaccination purchases linked to indicators of media coverage of the meningococcal disease and to administrative records of disease incidence. Using geographical and time variations in these indicators, our fixed effects estimates indicate a strong positive effect of mass media coverage of the disease on the rate of vaccination with all types of the meningococcal vaccine. At the same time, we do not find e

Rotavirus vaccine administration patterns in Italy: potential impact on vaccine coverage, compliance and adherence.

Acceptance of rotavirus (RV) vaccination may be impacted by several factors including the feasibility of the full schedule administration within the fixed immunization timelines. The human RV vaccine Rotarix (GSK) and the human bovine reassortant vaccine RotaTeq (Merck & Co.) were developed with different posologies (2 doses vs 3 doses respectively), which have both scientific and technical implications. A non-systematic literature review revealed that, in the Italian context, topics such as time to achieve RV protection in children, number of preventable cases and administration time window,
