Alternative audio-graphic method for presenting structural information in mathematical graphs designed for low-vision users.

Despite advances in assistive technologies, existing tools for teaching mathematics to students with low vision often fail to effectively convey structural information in graphs and function plots. Current methods, such as screen readers or magnifiers, are frequently limited in their ability to present complex visual data, leading to increased cognitive load and reduced learning efficiency. This article introduces the audio-graphic method designed to address these limitations by integrating audio feedback with graphical content. The method was implemented in an educational platform and evaluat

Successful recovery of vision following intravenous thrombolysis using low-dose alteplase in central retinal artery occlusion.

Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ophthalmic emergency characterized by sudden loss of vision with a low chance of spontaneous recovery. This case report presents a 49-year-old female with sudden right eye visual loss, diagnosed as non-arteritic CRAO. Fundoscopic examination revealed retinal pallor, and optical coherence tomography demonstrated edema of the inner retinal layer, consistent with CRAO. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed an acute ischemic lesion in the right occipital subcortex. The patient received intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (IV rt

Using Tactile Charts to Support Comprehension and Learning of Complex Visualizations for Blind and Low-Vision Individuals.

We investigate whether tactile charts support comprehension and learning of complex visualizations for blind and low-vision (BLV) individuals and contribute four tactile chart designs and an interview study. Visualizations are powerful tools for conveying data, yet BLV individuals typically can rely only on assistive technologies-primarily alternative texts-to access this information. Prior research shows the importance of mental models of chart types for interpreting these descriptions, yet BLV individuals have no means to build such a mental model based on images of visualizations. Tactile c

Development of a personalized conversational health agent to enhance physical activity for blind and low-vision individuals.

BACKGROUND: With the advancements in mobile health (mHealth) technologies, sighted individuals can benefit from mobile apps and wearable devices to more easily manage their physical activity (PA) and wellness data through intuitive touch gestures and effective data visualizations. However, for blind and low-vision (BLV) individuals, these conventional interaction methods are often challenging, not only limiting their ability to use these technologies but also potentially diminishing their motivation to adopt them to support health-promoting behaviors. We aimed to develop a health monitoring ap

An Unusual Case of Low Vision and Anisocoria Considered a Neurological Finding in the Emergency Department: Ocular Siderosis.

We present the case of a patient who came to the emergency department with a significant decrease in vision and dilated pupil in the left eye. Since neurological pathologies were primarily considered, diffusion brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and brain computed tomography (CT) were requested. After the results were reported as normal, we were consulted. On examination, the anterior segment was normal but we detected shiny pearl-like formations in the anterior vitreous, condensation at the inferior of the posterior vitreous, and a scar in the macula. When we evaluated the orbital section
