Why Are You Running and Does It Hurt? Pain, Motivations and Beliefs about Injury Prevention among Participants of a Large-Scale Public Running Event.

Organized running events have gained substantial popularity. This study aimed to elucidate the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain, knowledge about injury prevention as well as the attitudes and motivations of individuals participating in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Frankfurt (Germany). A total of 720 recreational runners completed a digital questionnaire immediately prior to the start. The majority of them displayed low to moderate physical activity levels and were rather unambitious regarding targeted finishing time. One quarter (25.3%) participated for the first time in an organized

Is Blood Flow Restriction During Warm-Up Able to Alter the Performance of Soccer Players?

We sought to evaluate the effects of a low-intensity warm-up with blood flow restriction (BFR) compared to low- and high-intensity warm-up on performance and perceptual responses. A randomized, controlled, crossover clinical trial was conducted with 33 soccer players, divided into three experimental conditions: warm-up at 30% of VO2 peak, warm-up at 80% of VO2 peak, and warm-up at 30% of VO2 peak combined with BFR at 80% of total occlusion pressure. Vertical jump and sprint tests, muscle pain, perception of effort, discomfort in relation to BFR, and myotonometry were measured before, immediate

Systemic acupuncture application does not change muscle performance parameters in women: A randomized, controlled, double-blind pilot study.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Acupuncture is used for therapeutic purposes. The possible beneficial role of this therapy may be as an ergogenic resource for the performance of fitness variables in exercise and sports. To date, acupuncture has been associated with increases in muscle strength, aerobic power, and vertical jump performance, but the evidence is still inconclusive. This study aimed to verify the immediate effects of a single session of acupuncture on lower-limb muscle performance in 31 young, physically active women. METHODS: This randomized, controlled, double-blind pilot study was appro

Standardized Program of Resistance Training for Prostate Cancer Patients Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy (SPoRT-PCa-ADT): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer causes significant adverse effects including muscle wasting, bone density reduction, increased fatigue, and psychological distress. Despite growing evidence supporting exercise as an effective countermeasure, standardized evidence-based protocols for this population remain underdeveloped in clinical practice. Exercise is beneficial for managing cancer-related side effects, and general exercise guidelines for cancer survivors are available, but tailoring of exercise interventions may be more effective in those with treatment-spe

L-Arginine Supplementation Did Not Impact the Rapid Recovery of Cardiovascular and Autonomic Function Following Exercise in Physically Active Healthy Males: A Triple-Blind Randomised Placebo-Controlled Crossover Trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Post-exercise recovery strategies include massage, low-intensity active exercise, thermal contrast, hydration, and nutritional and herbal approaches. These strategies aim to accelerate recovery, enhance performance, and optimise the physical training process. L-arginine (L-ARG) is the physiological precursor of nitric oxide (NO), a crucial mediator of vasodilation and the inhibition of platelet aggregation. A previous study reported that L-ARG supplementation could significantly reduce the systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). This study aimed t

Left ventricular function during sudden strenuous exercise.

Strenuous exercise without warm-up has been shown to produce ischemia-like electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities in 60-70% of healthy subjects. These abnormalities appeared to be related to the development of an unfavorable myocardial supply/demand balance and, in chronically instrumented dogs, to transient decreases in coronary blood flow. A mechanism involving subendocardial ischemia has been proposed to explain the response to sudden strenuous exercise (SSE). To determine whether the response to SSE included the development of changes in myocardial pump performance typical of ischemia, l
