Time series and fractal analyses of wheezing: a novel approach.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic Coronavirus Disease 2019, the world is in search of novel non-invasive methods for safer and early detection of lung diseases. The pulmonary pathological symptoms reflected through the lung sound opens a possibility of detection through auscultation and of employing spectral, fractal, nonlinear time series and principal component analyses. Thirty-five signals of vesicular and expiratory wheezing breath sound, subjected to spectral analyses shows a clear distinction in terms of time duration, intensity, and the number of frequency components. An investigation

Multi-scale surface electromyography modeling to identify changes in neuromuscular activation with myofascial pain.

To solve the limitations in using the conventional parametric measures to define myofascial pain, a 3-D multi-scale wavelet energy variation graph is proposed as a way to inspect the pattern of surface electromyography (SEMG) variation between the dominant and nondominant sides at different frequency scales during a muscle contraction cycle and the associated changes with the upper-back myofascial pain. The model was developed based on the property of the wavelet energy of the SEMG signal revealing the degree of correspondence between the shape of the motor unit action potential and the wavele

Inverse-Probability-Weighted Wavelet Estimation of Regression Derivatives Under Missing-at-Random Responses for Stationary Ergodic Processes.

We consider the estimation of partial derivatives of multivariate regression-type functionals from incomplete observations generated by a discrete-time strictly stationary ergodic process. The response variable is subject to a missing-at-random (MAR) mechanism, whereas the covariates are fully observed. Building upon the complete-data wavelet methodology developed in Didi and Bouzebda (2025), we construct inverse-probability-weighted empirical wavelet estimators that compensate for the selection bias induced by missing responses. When the propensity score is unknown, a feasible estimator is ob

Dosiomics-based detection of dose distribution variations in helical tomotherapy for prostate cancer patients: influence of treatment plan parameters.

The stability of dosiomics features (DFs) and dose-volume histogram (DVH) parameters for detecting disparities in helical tomotherapy planned dose distributions was assessed. Treatment plans of 18 prostate patients were recalculated using the followings: field width (WF) (2.5 vs. 5), pitch factor (PF) (0.433 vs. 0.444), and modulation factor (MF) (2.5 vs. 3). From each of the eight plans per patient, ninety-three original and 744 wavelet-based DFs were extracted, using 3D-Slicer software, across six regions including: target volume (PTV), pelvic lymph nodes (PTV-LN), PTV + PTV-LN (PTV-All), on

ROAR: Robust accident recognition and anticipation for autonomous driving.

Accurate accident anticipation is essential for enhancing the safety of autonomous vehicles (AVs). However, existing methods often assume ideal conditions, overlooking challenges such as sensor failures, environmental disturbances, and data imperfections, which can significantly degrade prediction accuracy. Additionally, previous models have not adequately addressed the considerable variability in driver behavior and accident rates across different vehicle types. To overcome these limitations, this study introduces ROAR, a novel approach for accident detection and prediction. ROAR combines Dis

Dynamic wavelet transform normalized multi scale dense attention UNet with Binary Horse Herd Optimization for osteosarcoma diagnosis.

Osteosarcoma is a highly aggressive primary bone cancer characterized by rapid progression and complex tissue heterogeneity, making accurate diagnosis and treatment planning particularly challenging. Conventional imaging-based diagnostic approaches often struggle to reliably differentiate viable tumor tissue, non-viable tumor regions, and healthy bone, leading to segmentation inaccuracies and elevated false-positive rates that can adversely affect clinical decision-making. To address these challenges, this work proposes DWT-N-MSDAUNet, a hybrid deep attention-based framework for precise osteos

YOLO-WSR: A wavelet feature and structure guided diffusion model for detection and automated restoration of cultural heritage artifact images.

In response to the complexity and diversity involved in damage detection and automated restoration of cultural heritage artifact images associated with intangible cultural heritage preservation, this study proposes a YOLO-based restoration framework that integrates wavelet features with structure-guided diffusion, termed YOLO-WSR. The proposed method enhances detection accuracy through wavelet feature upsampling and employs a structure-guided diffusion generation mechanism to achieve effective restoration of texture and structural details in damaged artifact images. In addition, a CLIP-IQA-bas

WaveNet-SF: A hybrid network for retinal disease detection based on wavelet transform in spatial-frequency domain.

Retinal diseases are a leading cause of vision impairment and blindness, with timely diagnosis being critical for effective treatment. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) has become a standard imaging modality for retinal disease diagnosis, but OCT images often suffer from issues such as speckle noise, complex lesion shapes, and varying lesion sizes, making interpretation challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel model, WaveNet-SF, to enhance retinal disease detection by integrating the spatial-domain and frequency-domain learning. The framework utilizes wavelet transforms to decompose OCT

Time-Frequency Analysis of Frontal EEG Channels for Alzheimer's Disease Detection Using Deep Learning.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects the elderly population. Electroencephalography (EEG) offers a non-invasive and cost-effective approach for real-time monitoring of brain activity in AD patients. This study proposes a novel EEG-based framework for AD detection, in which frontal EEG signals are transformed into time-frequency representations using continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and encoded as red-green-blue (RGB) spectrograms. A ResNet18 neural network, enhanced with a parallel convolutional block attention module (CBAM), is employed

Brain region localization: a rapid Parkinson's disease detection method based on EEG signals.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder worldwide, often progressing to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. Clinical diagnosis of PD mainly depends on characteristic motor symptoms, which can lead to misdiagnosis, underscoring the need for reliable biomarkers. Early detection of PD and effective monitoring of disease progression are crucial for enhancing patient outcomes. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, as non-invasive neural recordings, show great promise as diagnostic biomarkers. In this study, we present a novel approach for PD diagnosis through the

Harmonic Wavelet Neural Network for Discovering Neuropathological Propagation Patterns in Alzheimer's Disease.

Emerging researchindicates that the degenerative biomarkers associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) exhibit a non-random distribution within the cerebral cortex, instead following the structural brain network. The alterations in brain networks occur much earlier than the onset of clinical symptoms, thereby affecting the progression of brain disease. In this context, the utilization of computational methods to ascertain the propagation patterns of neuropathological events would contribute to the comprehension of the pathophysiological mechanism involved in the evolution of AD. Despite the enco

State identification of Parkinson's disease based on transfer learning.

BACKGROUND: The local field potential (LFP) signals are a vital signal for studying the mechanisms of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and constructing adaptive DBS containing information related to the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). OBJECTIVE: A Parkinson's disease state identification algorithm based on the feature extraction strategy of transfer learning was proposed. METHODS: The algorithm uses continuous wavelet transform (CWT) to convert one-dimensional LFP signals into two-dimensional gray-scalogram images and color images respectively, and designs a Bayesian optimized random

Detection of Neurovascular Coupling in Full-Term Neonates Using Wavelet Coherence and Phase-Locking Value.

This study proposes a new method to monitor neurovascular coupling and to help determine the level of brain injury in full-term neonates with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE). The wavelet coherence method is used to assess the coupling between the regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) as measured by NIRS and the lower envelope of EEG power in that region of the brain. This paper also provides methods for the visualization of the phase-locking value between these signals based on both the cross-wavelet and the Hilbert Transform methods. The preliminary results presented in this paper

iAFPs-Mv-BiTCN: Predicting antifungal peptides using self-attention transformer embedding and transform evolutionary based multi-view features with bidirectional temporal convolutional networks.

Globally, fungal infections have become a major health concern in humans. Fungal diseases generally occur due to the invading fungus appearing on a specific portion of the body and becoming hard for the human immune system to resist. The recent emergence of COVID-19 has intensely increased different nosocomial fungal infections. The existing wet-laboratory-based medications are expensive, time-consuming, and may have adverse side effects on normal cells. In the last decade, peptide therapeutics have gained significant attention due to their high specificity in targeting affected cells without

Spatiotemporal Registration of 3-D Multi-perspective Ultrasound Images of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms.

Methods for patient-specific abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) progression monitoring and rupture risk assessment are widely investigated. Three-dimensional ultrasound can visualize the AAA's complex geometry and displacement fields. However, ultrasound has a limited field of view and low frame rate (i.e., 3-8 Hz). This article describes an approach to enhance the temporal resolution and the field of view. First, the frame rate was increased for each data set by sequencing multiple blood pulse cycles into one cycle. The sequencing method uses the original frame rate and the estimated pulse wave

[A heart rate detection method for wearable electrocardiogram with the presence of motion interference].

The dynamic electrocardiogram (ECG) collected by wearable devices is often corrupted by motion interference due to human activities. The frequency of the interference and the frequency of the ECG signal overlap with each other, which distorts and deforms the ECG signal, and then affects the accuracy of heart rate detection. In this paper, a heart rate detection method that using coarse graining technique was proposed. First, the ECG signal was preprocessed to remove the baseline drift and the high-frequency interference. Second, the motion-related high amplitude interference exceeding the pres

Novel methods for characterization of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in human left atria.

INTRODUCTION: More effective methods for characterizing 3D electrical activity in human left atrium (LA) are needed to identify substrates/triggers and microreentrant circuit for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). We describe a novel wavelet-based approach and wave-front centroid tracking that have been used to reconstruct regional activation frequency and electrical activation pathways from non-contact multi-electrode array. METHODS: Data from 13 patients acquired prior to ablation for PAF with a 64 electrode noncontact catheter positioned in the LA were analysed. Unipolar electrograms we

A comparison among different techniques for human ERG signals processing and classification.

Feature detection in biomedical signals is crucial for deepening our knowledge about the involved physiological processes. To achieve this aim, many analytic approaches can be applied but only few are able to deal with signals whose time dependent features provide useful clinical information. Among the biomedical signals, the electroretinogram (ERG), that records the retinal response to a light flash, can improve our comprehension of the complex photoreceptoral activities. The present study is focused on the analysis of the early response of the photoreceptoral human system, known as a-wave ER

Spatiotemporal dynamics of dengue in Colombia in relation to the combined effects of local climate and ENSO.

Dengue virus (DENV) is an endemic disease in the hot and humid low-lands of Colombia. We characterize the association of monthly series of dengue cases with indices of El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) at the tropical Pacific and local climatic variables in Colombia during the period 2007-2017 at different temporal and spatial scales. For estimation purposes, we use lagged cross-correlations (Pearson test), cross-wavelet analysis (wavelet cross spectrum, and wavelet coherence), as well as a novel nonlinear causality method, PCMCI, that allows identifying common causal drivers and links among
