UNLABELLED: To compare the efficacy of radial extracorporeal shock-wave therapy (rESWT) vs. an ultrasound-guided low-dose intra-articular steroid injection in pain reduction and functional improvement in diabetic patients with shoulder adhesive capsulitis (AC).
METHODS: This was a 2-parallel-group, active-control, assessor-blinded, randomized trial. We randomized 103 diabetic patients with shoulder AC to receive either 4 sessions of rESWT, 1 week apart (rESWT group, n = 52), or a single ultrasound-guided low-dose intra-articular steroid injection of 20 mg of triamcinolone acetonide (steroid g

BACKGROUND: Intra-articular corticosteroid injection is a common therapy for adhesive capsulitis, but there is a lack of prospective randomized controlled studies analyzing the efficacy of single injections applied blindly to accelerate improvement in pain and function.
HYPOTHESIS: In patients with adhesive capsulitis, a single intra-articular corticosteroid injection without image control applied before the beginning of a physical therapy program will accelerate pain relief and recovery of function compared with oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and physical therapy.

Adhesive capsulitis is a painful condition with a prevalence of 2-5%. There is a lack of evidence for its aetiology and for conventional treatment and cost effects. This study describes the treatment effects of manual manipulation of the acromioclavicular joint for adhesive capsulitis in a young woman for persisting pain after mobilisation of the glenohumeral joint under anaesthesia. Primary outcomes were pain and physical function, measured by a visual analogue scale and the SF36 health survey. Secondary outcomes were sleep pattern, medication and perceived recovery. The mobility after manipu

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this manuscript is to describe what we believe to be the first series of patients surgically treated for idiopathic isolated teres minor atrophy and to present the results of surgical decompression of the nerve to the teres minor.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort of 22 patients who underwent decompression of the nerve to the teres minor for isolated teres minor atrophy. Clinical data including duration of symptoms, additional diagnoses, concurrent procedures, preoperative physical examination findings, imaging data, and preoperative visual analog scale (VAS),

Treatment strategies targeting abnormal shoulder kinematics may prevent pathology or if the pathology develops, shorten its duration. We examined the effectiveness of the end-range mobilization/scapular mobilization treatment approach (EMSMTA) in a subgroup of subjects with frozen shoulder syndrome (FSS). Based on the kinematics criteria from a prediction method, 34 subjects with FSS were recruited. Eleven subjects were assigned to the control group, and 23 subjects who met the criteria were randomly assigned to the criteria-control group with a standardized physical therapy program or to the

BACKGROUND: It has been reported that manipulative therapy directed at the cervical and thoracic spine may improve outcomes in patients with shoulder pain. To date, limited data are available to help physical therapists determine which patients with shoulder pain may experience changes in pain and disability following the application of these interventions.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify prognostic factors from the history and physical examination in individuals with shoulder pain who are likely to experience rapid improvement in pain and disability following cervical an

Background Pathologies affecting the ankle joint and hindfoot can present with a variety of clinical symptoms and etiologies, necessitating accurate diagnostic tools for effective management. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable imaging modality for assessing these pathologies, providing detailed visualization of bone, joint, tendon, and other soft tissue abnormalities. Objectives To evaluate MRI findings in a diverse cohort of 105 participants with pathologies affecting the ankle joint and hindfoot, focusing on the prevalence and types of bone, joint, tendon, and soft tissue abnorma

The lack of some suppressor T cells (including TCD4+CD25+(high) positively selected first in thymic medulla) specific to a restricted set of autoantigens may be the common link between all patterns of rheumatoid arthritis. In other words, instead of a 'peak' of TCD4+ effector T cells common to all patients with rheumatoid arthritis (which has so far never been demonstrated), a 'hole' in TCD4+CD25+(high) responses towards a limited set of autoantigens responsible for the normal maintenance of tolerance within the joints may be shared by many patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The hallmark of t

Despite frequent involvement, the rheumatoid shoulder is neglected in operative treatment of the upper extremities. The slow course of omarthritis, the compensation mechanism of scapulothoracic motion and neighbouring joints as well as dominating disabilities of the lower extremities and the rheumatoid hand are possible explanations. The pattern of destruction of the rheumatoid shoulder is characterized by progressive joint and soft tissue deterioration. Soft tissue involvement determines the course of the shoulder joint. The subacromial space is a common and early site for rheumatoid involvem

OBJECTIVE: To describe chronic chikungunya manifestations seen during the outbreak in the Caribbean from December 2013 to January 2015.
METHODS: Patients were seen at our center, the only rheumatology department in Martinique Island, and were examined by a senior rheumatologist using a standard care report form. Chikungunya was diagnosed collectively based on consensus among all clinicians. The median time from onset of acute chikungunya to the first rheumatology consultation was calculated, severity was evaluated based on clinical scales and the degree of joint destruction, and each patient'

Soft tissue masses around the foot and ankle are frequent. While benign lesions are two times more frequent than malignant lesions, the latter still represent one third of all lesions. The main purpose of this article is to propose a systematic approach to the differential diagnosis of soft tissue tumors of the foot and ankle based on a combination of 5 elements: clinical history and physical examination, top 10 most frequent diagnoses, patient age, lesion location, and MRI features of the mass. Selected soft tissue tumors will be described and illustrated with emphasis on these 5 elements.
