Retention test Homburg to monitor the adhesive properties of von Willebrand factor after substitution or desmopressin therapy.

To diagnose von Willebrand disease (vWD) and to monitor drug efficacy, several tests have been established that are not, however, focused on the platelet adhesion properties of von Willebrand factor (vWF). The new platelet retention test Homburg (RTH) is characterized by a nonthrombogenic filter that retains platelets from blood when it is pressed through this filter. It was the aim of this study to examine the capability of this test to monitor the adhesive properties of vWF after its substitution in vWD or its release by desmopressin infusion. The RTH demonstrated a striking sensitivity for

In vitro microleakage of dentin adhesives.

This in vitro study measured the microleakage of current dentin bonding agents and glass-ionomer bases. Freshly extracted human molars were prepared to a flat surface, and dentin adhesives and composite resins were applied in a plastic matrix. Samples were stored in water at 37 degrees C, thermocycled, stained with AgNO3, embedded in epoxy resin, and sectioned for evaluation of stain penetration at the composite resin/tooth interface. The reliability index of the dentin adhesives varied significantly between materials. The enamel control had essentially no microleakage, and the aluminum oxalat

Biomimetic multilayer small-diameter vascular grafts with tunable mechanical behavior.

Small-diameter vascular grafts remain limited by thrombosis, intimal hyperplasia, and inadequate mechanical and biological integration, motivating manufacturing strategies that can simultaneously control tubular architecture, mechanical response, and the blood-contacting interface. Herein, we report a bioinspired coaxial dry-jet wet-spinning platform using a custom-engineered three-channel spinneret to continuously fabricate bilayer thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) hollow constructs with an external TPU layer, a luminal PLA layer, and a sacrificial water core. Octopus-Inspired Modular Two-Segment Pneumatic Soft Manipulator with Passive Suction Cups.

Octopus arms combine a compliant continuum body with distributed suckers, providing a biological reference for soft manipulators that require large deformation and stable local contact. Inspired by this functional organization, this study presents an octopus-inspired two-segment pneumatic soft manipulator with passive suction cups at the distal end. The manipulator consists of a cylindrical proximal segment, a tapered distal segment, and a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) suction-cup array. The proximal segment provides structural support and global bending, whereas the tapered distal segment

Measuring toluene diisocyanate concentrations in accordance with the ACGIH® inhalable fraction and vapor (IFV) notation.

Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is an irritant (skin, eye and respiratory) and a sensitizer. This compound is used to manufacture polyurethane materials such as flexible foams. The use of isocyanates may lead to exposure by inhalation and/or skin contact and isocyanates are recognized as a cause of occupational asthma. The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) recommends a threshold limit value (TLV) for TDI of 1 part per billion (ppb) (7 μg m-3) with the inhalable fraction and vapor (IFV) notation. This notation means that the inhalable fraction of particles and the va

Biogenic polymer based patches for congenital cardiac surgery: future development of implants.

OBJECTIVE: Despite advancements in surgical techniques, many patients born with congenital heart defects (CHD) require repeated reinterventions due to the limitations of materials used in congenital cardiac surgery (CCS). Traditional biogenic polymers, such as bovine or equine pericardium, are prone to calcification, have limited durability, and fail to adapt to the growth of infants. This study aims to address these challenges by investigating bacterial cellulose (BC) as a promising material for CCS. METHODS: Variability in patch quality from previous studies was addressed by refining the pr

Analysis of Diabetic Foot Deformation and Plantar Pressure Distribution of Women at Different Walking Speeds.

Official guidelines state that suitable physical activity is recommended for patients with diabetes mellitus. However, since walking at a rapid pace could be associated with increased plantar pressure and potential foot pain, the footwear condition is particularly important for optimal foot protection in order to reduce the risk of tissue injury and ulceration of diabetic patients. This study aims to analyze foot deformation and plantar pressure distribution at three different walking speeds (slow, normal, and fast walking) in dynamic situations. The dynamic foot shape of 19 female diabetic pa
