Runx2 (Cbfa1) inhibits Shh signaling in the lower but not upper molars of mouse embryos and prevents the budding of putative successional teeth.

Heterozygous mutations in the RUNX2 (CBFA1) gene cause cleidocranial dysplasia, characterized by multiple supernumerary teeth. This suggests that Runx2 inhibits successional tooth formation. However, in Runx2 knockout mice, molar development arrests at the late bud stage, and lower molars are more severely affected than upper ones. We have proposed that compensation by Runx3 may be involved. We compared the molar phenotypes of Runx2/Runx3 double-knockouts with those of Runx2 knockouts, but found no indication of such compensation. Shh and its mediators Ptc1, Ptc2, and Gli1 were down-regulated

Associations between biochemical parameters and oral health indices in pediatric chronic kidney disease: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Oral health findings in pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD) are heterogeneous, and CKD-related metabolic alterations may contribute to plaque mineralization and oral hygiene outcomes. Yet, the relationship between routinely measured serum biochemical parameters and standardized caries/oral hygiene indices in children with CKD is not well defined. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between serum biochemical parameters and oral health indices in pediatric CKD. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 34 children aged 6-14 years with diagnosed CKD. Demographic and a

A novel posterior occlusal splint improves symptoms and prognosis of coexisting temporomandibular disorders and deep bite: a retrospective study.

OBJECTIVES: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a common syndrome characterized by pain and mandibular dysfunction, with occlusal factors such as deep bite potentially contributing to biomechanical changes in the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Managing patients with coexisting TMD and deep bite is often complex. This study aimed primarily to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of a novel posterior occlusal splint in improving TMD-related pain and mandibular function, and secondarily to assess overall treatment prognosis and changes in overbite. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective stud

The internal fit and fracture resistance of stainless-steel crowns and porcelain fused to metal crowns in intact and severely damaged permanent molars: an in vitro study.

AIM: Severe caries in mixed dentition frequently affects mandibular first permanent molars, often necessitating full-coverage restorations. Stainless steel crowns (SSCs) and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns are among the most commonly used options. This study aimed to compare the internal fit and fracture resistance of SSCs and PFMs in both intact and restored mandibular first molars. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty extracted mandibular first molars were randomly divided into four groups: (1) intact teeth-SSCs, (2) intact teeth-PFMs, (3) restored teeth-SSCs, and (4) restored teeth-PFMs. In

Forensic Age Estimation Using Tooth Eruption Status in Children: A Correlative Study With Chronological Age.

INTRODUCTION: Forensic age estimation is essential in clinical and legal settings, particularly in children, where reliable and non-invasive methods are required. Tooth eruption follows a relatively consistent developmental pattern and may serve as a practical indicator of chronological age during the mixed-dentition period. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between cumulative tooth eruption status and chronological age in children and to develop a predictive model for age estimation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 120 children aged 6

Comparison of the Mandibular Buccal Shelf Bone Thickness in Adolescents and Adults Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography.

Introduction The mandibular buccal shelf is a reliable site for extra-alveolar orthodontic miniscrew placement. The primary stability of temporary anchorage devices depends largely on cortical bone thickness and overall bone morphology. However, age-related variations in buccal shelf bone dimensions have not been fully established, particularly between adolescents and adults with similar growth patterns. The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the vertical and horizontal bone thickness of the mandibular buccal shelf in adolescent and adult populations using cone-beam computed
