Performance of the 2017 EULAR/ACR Classification Criteria for adult and juvenile idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and their major subgroups: a scoping review.

The 2017 EULAR/ACR classification criteria for adult/juvenile idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) were established using a data-driven approach by an international group of myositis experts to allow classification of IIM and its major subtypes. Since their publication, the performance of the criteria has been tested in multiple cohorts worldwide and significant limitations have been identified. Moreover, the understanding and classification of IIM have evolved since 2017. This scoping review was undertaken as part of a large international project to revise the EULAR/ACR criteria and aims

Treatment of osteoarthritis of the elbow with open or arthroscopic debridement: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Elbow osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disabling condition because of pain and loss of motion. Open and arthroscopic debridement are the preferred treatment, however there is no consensus on which treatment modality is suited to which category of patient or stage of disease. The objective of this study was to narratively review the literature for a more comprehensive understanding of its treatment options and associated outcomes, trying to provide a better treatment plan. METHODS: The PubMed database, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were searched, using the keywords (e

Which DSM validated tools for diagnosing depression are usable in primary care research? A systematic literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Depression occurs frequently in primary care. Its broad clinical variability makes it difficult to diagnose. This makes it essential that family practitioner (FP) researchers have validated tools to minimize bias in studies of everyday practice. Which tools validated against psychiatric examination, according to the major depression criteria of DSM-IV or 5, can be used for research purposes? METHOD: An international FP team conducted a systematic review using the following databases: Pubmed, Cochrane and Embase, from 2000/01/01 to 2015/10/01. RESULTS: The three databases search

Protocol for a scoping review of sepsis epidemiology.

INTRODUCTION: Sepsis is a common, life-threatening syndrome of physiologic, pathologic, and biochemical abnormalities that are caused by infection and propagated by a dysregulated immune response. In 2017, the estimated annual incidence of sepsis around the world was 508 cases per 100,000 (95% confidence interval [CI], 422-612 cases per 100,000), however, reported incidence rates vary significantly by country. A scoping review will identify knowledge gaps by systematically investigating the incidence of sepsis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This scoping review will be guided by the updated JBI (forme

Should all babies with oesophageal atresia have routine screening for midgut malrotation anomalies? A systematic review in search of evidence.

Background/Purpose Oesophageal Atresia (OA) is associated with co-existent anomalies. There is a controversy of literature pertaining to the risk (s) of intestinal malrotation. In order to guide management we critically evaluate the incidence of IM anomalies in OA newborns. Design MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched using keywords "(O)Esophageal Atresia and Malrotation/Associated Abnormalities/Associated Anomalies". Full texts of articles were screened if manuscripts exclusively reported patients with OA malrotation and/or associated anomalies. Larger case series (> 10patients) were inc

Do computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging add to temporomandibular joint disorder treatment? A systematic review of diagnostic efficacy.

A question frequently asked in the clinical practice of the professional who treats temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD) is 'To make the cost/benefit ratio worthwhile for the patient, when should I request a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?' To evaluate the evidence of the efficacy of CT and MRI in the diagnosis of disc displacement, local inflammatory disorders, and arthrosis of the TMJ at therapeutic efficacy level, PubMed and Cochrane literature searches with specific indexing terms and a hand search were made. Thrombogenic potential of whole blood is higher in patients with acute coronary syndrome than in patients with stable coronary diseases.

INTRODUCTION: Although thrombogenic potential of blood may play an important role for the onset of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), there is no established way to evaluate it by single parameter. We compared the thrombogenic potential of whole blood between patients with ACS and those with stable coronary diseases using single comprehensive parameter. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Consecutive patients with ACS (n=146) and those with stable coronary heart diseases (control, n=92) were prospectively examined. Thrombogenic potential of whole blood was evaluated by blood vulnerability index measured by Mi

[Right ventricular function in patients with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Effect of balloon mitral valvuloplasty].

UNLABELLED: Postrheumatic mitral stenosis might cause impairment of right ventricular (RV) function due to both an increase in RV afterload and rheumatic myocardial disease. Therefore, we investigated in 19 patients with postrheumatic mitral stenosis and sinus rhythm right ventricular volumes and hemodynamics by a computerized thermodilution catheter during rest and supine bicycle exercise. In 14 patients the investigation was repeated within 2 days after balloon mitral valvuloplasty. Resting RV ejection fraction was decreased (43 (15-53)%, median (range)) and correlated significantly with RV
