A Perifascial Areolar Tissue Graft With Topical Administration of Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor for Treatment of Complex Wounds With Exposed Tendons and/or Bones.

The management of wounds with tendon and/or bone exposure is challenging because of the insufficient blood supply to the wound bed. We describe our experience with 19 patients using a perifascial areolar tissue (PAT) graft with topical administration of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the treatment of complex wounds with exposed tendons and/or bones in the extremities. Using a PAT graft is minimally invasive and technically easy, and the donor site is relatively preserved. However, PAT grafts for the treatment of a complex wound with large areas of exposed tendons and/or bones have so

[The use of a double balloon catheter in the topical extra-amniotic administration of prostaglandin F2alpha gel in indicated labor induction and cervix incompetence].

Using a self-made double-balloon-catheter the instillation of 2.5 mg Prostaglandin F2 alpha into the extraovular chorio-decidual space was down 46 times in 42 late pregnant women. The indication was the unripe cervix uteri in case of urgent parturition. This method is more effective than the pericervical and endocervical application, respectively. Under continuous supervision using external CTG there were neither complications in fetus nor in the mother.

High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of certain salicylates and their major metabolites in plasma following topical administration of a liniment to healthy subjects.

The liniment used is a topical analgesic and anti-inflammatory preparation containing two active constituents, 3-phenylpropylsalicylate and ethyl-5-methoxysalicylate, in solution in isobutyl decanoate. It is known that 3-phenylpropylsalicylate is metabolised to salicylic acid and salicyluric acid and ethyl-5-methoxysalicylate is metabolised to 5-methoxysalicylic acid and gentisic acid. In the present study the separation of the salicylates and their metabolites was carried out on a Waters mu Bondapak C18 column using two different mobile phases, methanol-water (80:20) for the parent drugs and

Topical administration of Juniperus polycarpos K. Koch extract triggered wound healing by decreasing inflammation and accelerating cell proliferation in diabetic rat model.

One of the primary difficulties for individuals with diabetes is the development of chronic wounds. The current research sought to investigate the potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of Juniperus polycarpos K. Koch (JP) extract when topically applied in diabetic wound healing. A total of 75 diabetic rats were randomly assigned into the control group, eucerin group, 2 % Juniperus polycarpos K. Koch ointment (JP 2 %) group, 5 % Juniperus polycarpos K. Koch ointment (JP 5 %) group, and phenytoin group. Skin samples were obtained on days 7, 14, and 21 to assess them through hist

Topical administration of a suppressor of cytokine signaling-1 (SOCS1) mimetic peptide inhibits ocular inflammation and mitigates ocular pathology during mouse uveitis.

Uveitis is a diverse group of potentially sight-threatening intraocular inflammatory diseases and pathology derives from sustained production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the optical axis. Although topical or systemic steroids are effective therapies, their adverse effects preclude prolonged usage and are impetus for seeking alternative immunosuppressive agents, particularly for patients with refractory uveitis. In this study, we synthesized a 16 amino acid membrane-penetrating lipophilic suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 peptide (SOCS1-KIR) that inhibits JAK/STAT signaling pathways and s

Healing of diabetic foot ulcer with topical and oral administrations of herbal products: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

This systematic review aimed to qualitatively synthesize recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding the effect of topical application and oral intake of herbal products on the healing of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). Also, we sought to pool the obtained findings in a meta-analysis using a random-effects model, if RCTs were relatively comparable and homogenous. A comprehensive search was performed on five electronic data sources from their inception through 23 January 2024. The RCTs, without restriction on the country of origin, were included if they compared the effect of administering

Inhibition of immune-complex mediated dermal inflammation in rats following either oral or topical administration of a small molecule C5a receptor antagonist.

1. Initiation of a peritoneal Arthus reaction by deposition of immune-complexes results in vascular leakage, polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) infiltration, and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) production. We now demonstrate in rats that oral administration of the C5a receptor antagonist AcPhe[Orn-Pro-D-Cyclohexylalanine-Trp-Arg] (AcF-[OPdChaWR]; 1 - 10 mg kg(-1) 30 min prior to immune-complex deposition) inhibits these inflammatory markers in the peritoneal Arthus reaction. 2. Initiation of a dermal Arthus reaction resulted in a significant increase in vascular

Hybrid dendrimer hydrogel/PLGA nanoparticle platform sustains drug delivery for one week and antiglaucoma effects for four days following one-time topical administration.

We report a novel hybrid polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer hydrogel/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticle platform (HDNP) for codelivery of two antiglaucoma drugs, brimonidine and timolol maleate. This platform was not cytotoxic to human corneal epithelial cells. Cellular uptake of Nile red-encapsulating PLGA nanoparticles was significantly increased by dendrimer hydrogel. A prolonged residence time of nanoparticles was demonstrated through investigation of FluoSpheres loaded into dendrimer hydrogel. Both brimonidine and timolol maleate were slowly released in vitro over a period of
