[Symptomatic angiomyolipoma of the kidney: report of 2 cases].

Renal angiomyolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor composed of adipose tissue, dysplastic blood vessels and smooth muscle. The tumor may occur as a distinct entity or in association with tuberous sclerosis. The diagnosis is usually easy but a malignant neoplasm can not always be excluded. Tumors smaller than 4 cm are mostly asymptomatic and usually do not need to be treated. For larger lesions a treatment is advisable especially in case of symptoms because of the risk of a severe hemorrhage. The treatment should be as conservative as possible and nephrectomy preformed only when a malignant tumor

[Renal angiomyolipoma as a rare cause of retroperitoneal hemorrhage].

Angiomyolipomas are hamartomas that may be found sporadically or associated with tuberous sclerosis (M. Bourneville-Pringle). Clinically, this long-term asymptomatic tumor becomes evident as an acute retroperitoneal hemorrhage or by symptoms of a flank mass. Due to the high percentage of fat components in this tumor type, computed tomography is far superior to other radiological procedures. In view of two of our own case reports, the therapeutic strategies are discussed, paying regard to the actual literature in this field.

[Selective embolization of an aneurysm in a massive angiomyolipoma of the kidney].

Forty to 80% of patients with tuberous sclerosis exhibit renal angiomyolipomas which are often multiple and bilateral. Renal ultrasonography has a low sensitivity and a low specificity in the diagnosis of renal angiomyolipomas. Some patients have so many angiomyolipomas that ultrasonography indicates a confluence of angiomyolipomatous tissue throughout the kidney, in which case the size of a separate angiomyolipoma is difficult to estimate and the actual size may be underestimated. However it is an important tool in the follow-up of smaller lesions. With CT and magnetic resonance imaging, the

[Angiomyolipoma of the kidney. Comments on 3 recent cases].

We report another three cases of renal angiomyolipoma with different modes of presentation and treatment. Two cases are considered to be of particular interest; one patient presented chyluria in the course of the disease and Wunderlich's syndrome posteriorly, and in the other patient the presenting features were extrarenal. The diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities are discussed and attention is focussed on the conservative approach whenever possible.

An Uncommon Presentation of Renal Angiomyolipoma: A Case Report.

Renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare benign tumor of the kidney that can occur as a sporadic lesion or a part of tuberous sclerosis. A 77-year-old female patient with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and an unclear history of left nephrectomy in 1999 presented with progressive shortness of breath and palpitations. Her vital signs showed elevated blood pressure, and the examination was benign and non-focal. A work-up showed multiple lesions in her lungs and right kidney, representing lymphangioleiomyomatosis. The patient was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis and was followed up by pul

Giant renal angiomyolipomas in tuberous sclerosis complex.

Angiomyolipomas are the benign tumours of the kidney which occur either sporadically or in association with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Symptoms typically develop with an increase in the size of the lesion. We present a clinical image of a patient with giant renal angiomyolipomas who had other clinical features of TSC (facial angiofibromas, periungual fibroma, subependymal nodules in the brain, and lung cysts).

Angiomyolipoma of Uterine Cervix: Report of a Rare Case.

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is classified as perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasm (PEComas) and is commonly seen in the kidney. AML is a solid mesenchymal neoplasm rarely encountered at the extrarenal site. Extrarenal AML is infrequently seen in the female genital tract. Four cases of AML of the cervix have been reported in the literature to our knowledge. We report a case of a 44-year-old female patient who presented with complaints of "lower abdominal pressure" and a history of post-coital bleeding and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. A cyst in the uterine cervix was found incidentally on co

A rare case of spontaneous rupture of epithelioid angiomyolipoma.

A male patient, 40 years of age, arrived at our Institute with diffuse abdominal tenderness, right flank pain, hematuria and early stage of hemorrhagic shock with anemia and initial hypotension. The immediate clinical history revealed no significant previous trauma, only subsequently was reported inconstant pain in the right flank for 4-5 days with pallor and asthenia, signs and symptoms that the patient had not investigated. Abdominal CT scan with angiographic evaluation was performed showing right kidney mass and perirenal fluid collection by blood component. Immediate nephrectomy was perfor

[Angiomyolipoma of the liver-a case report and review of the literature].

We report the case of a 70-year-old female patient with an unclear liver mass after clinical and radiological evaluation. In histopathological evaluation, we diagnosed a hepatic angiomyolipoma, which is a rare entity and belongs to the perivascular epithelioid group of tumours (PEComa). In this report, we illustrate the typical histomorphology, immunohistochemical profile and molecular changes based on the case presentation and discuss and review the current literature on hepatic angiomyolipomas. In addition, typical differential diagnostic problems are highlighted.

Radiologic misunderstanding of cutaneous angiomyolipoma in the alar base.

In this article, we will examine a case of cutaneous angiomyolipoma in the right nasal alar base area of a 36-year-old man. Generally, angiomyolipoma occurs in the kidney and, histologically, has features that are similar to cutaneous angiomyolipoma: smooth muscle cells, mature adipose cells, and a convoluted thick-walled blood vessel. Clinically, renal angiomyolipoma is related to tuberous sclerosis, but cutaneous angiomyolipomas occur very rarely, with a total of only 23 cases documented in the literature, with 39% (9/23) of those cases occurring in the ear or surrounding areas. In particula

Inflammatory angiomyolipoma of the liver: a rare hepatic tumor.

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of the tumor, composed of a varying heterogeneous mixture of three tissue components: blood vessels, smooth muscle and adipose cells. Hepatic AML may demonstrate a marked histological diversity. We herein present one case of hepatic AML exhibiting prominent inflammatory cells in the background, which happened in a 61-year-old Chinese female patient, without signs of tuberous sclerosis. Histologically, the striking feature was the infiltration of numerous inflammatory cells in the background, including small lymphocytes, plasma cells, and eosn

Sirolimus and tuberous sclerosis-associated renal angiomyolipomas.

Tuberous sclerosis, caused by germline mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes, is associated with aberrant upregulation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signalling pathway, resulting in growth of tumours, including renal angiomyolipomas (AMLs). AMLs may cause hypertension, renal failure and spontaneous life-threatening haemorrhage. Previously, invasive interventions were required to treat AMLs. More recently, mTOR inhibitors have been used as molecularly targeted treatment to treat AMLs. We present here the case of a paediatric patient with TSC in whom sirolimus has been used successfu

Role of the CXCR4/CXCL12 axis in lymphangioleiomyomatosis and angiomyolipoma.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a progressive disease caused by accumulation of metastatic (LAM) cells in the lungs, lymphatics, and the tumor angiomyolipoma (AML). LAM cells have biallelic loss of either tuberous sclerosis complex gene (but predominantly TSC-2) and resultant dysregulation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. Chemokines are associated with neoplastic cell growth, survival, and homing to specific organs and may play similar roles in LAM. Our objective was to study comprehensively the expression and function of chemokine receptors and how their function interac
