OBJECTIVE: Xenon provides neuroprotection in multiple animal models; however, little is known about the other noble gases. The aim of the current study was to compare xenon, argon, and helium neuroprotection in a neonatal asphyxia model in rats.
DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial.
SETTING: Laboratory.
SUBJECTS: Seven-day-old postnatal Sprague-Dawley rats.
INTERVENTIONS: Seventy percent argon, helium, xenon, or nitrogen balanced with oxygen after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.

Benign metastasizing leiomyomas of the lung are rare smooth muscle cells tumours. We report the case of a 48 year-old female who was evaluated due to persistent cough, progressive dyspnoea and constitutional symptoms. Chest computed tomography revealed a left endobronchial mass, multiple parenchyma nodules and a pleural effusion. Bronchial biopsy histological features were consistent with benign metastasizing leiomyoma. The patient was successfully treated with argon-plasma and mechanical debulking. There was no disease relapse in the last four years.

PURPOSE: Two eyes with corneal neovascularization were treated with argon laser and bevacizumab (Avastin) to enhance transplant survival after penetrating keratoplasty.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Before penetrating keratoplasty, pathologic corneal vessels were treated with argon laser coagulation and a simultaneous, subconjunctival bevacizumab injection. Four to 6 weeks after this treatment, corneal transplantation was performed, followed by an intraocular injection of bevacizumab.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of argon plasma coagulation (APC) in the treatment of large airway obstruction.
METHODS: Totally 389 patients with treacheobronchial stenosis were treated with APC (ARCO3000 type) by bronchoscopy. The stenoses were caused by carcinomas (203 cases, 52.2%), metastatic tumors (67 cases, 17.2%), benign tumors (18 cases, 4.6%), granulomas (93 cases, 23.9%) and other lesions (8 cases, 2.1%). The rate of recanalization, relief of the symptoms, and complications were analyzed.

PURPOSE: To study the effect of previous argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) on the hypotensive activity of latanoprost in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).

Following mechanical lesion of the optic nerve (ON), lower vertebrates are capable of regeneration of the ON and regain visual function. We have studied, by light and electron microscopy, regeneration of the larval ON of Xenopus laevis after treatment with the argon laser. Although laser treatment of the trabecular meshwork is the most common form of surgery for glaucoma, the tissue response to this therapy is still incompletely understood. We applied argon or Nd:YAG laser to the trabecular meshwork of six monkeys. Cell division was identified by injecting tritiated thymidine into the anterior chamber 24 hr after laser application. Multiple angiofibromas (adenoma sebaceum) of the nose in a dark-complexioned patient with tuberous sclerosis were treated with laser surgery. One side of the nose was treated with the argon laser. The other side of the nose was treated with the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. The CO2 laser produced superior cosmetic results with more complete removal of cutaneous lesions.
