Preliminary report: cystoscopy-assisted peritoneal dialysis catheter placement - a direct, visual, safe, precise, easy, minimally invasive, and inexpensive technique.

OBJECTIVES: Inflammatory arthritis needs infectious disease screening before starting a biologic agent, however, few data are known about migrant patients, who represent a peculiar population which requires a multidisciplinary approach among international health specialists and should also be considered by health authorities. For this reason, the Italian and Spanish Societies of Rheumatology (SIR and SER) and Tropical Medicine (SIMET and SEMTSI) promoted a multidisciplinary task force in order to produce specific recommendations about screening and advices to be considered in migrant patients

Exploring the molecular mechanisms and shared potential drugs between rheumatoid arthritis and arthrofibrosis based on large language model and synovial microenvironment analysis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and arthrofibrosis (AF) are both chronic synovial hyperplasia diseases that result in joint stiffness and contractures. They shared similar symptoms and many common features in pathogenesis. Our study aims to perform a comprehensive analysis between RA and AF and identify novel drugs for clinical use. Based on the text mining approaches, we performed a correlation analysis of 12 common joint diseases including arthrofibrosis, gouty arthritis, infectious arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, osteoarthritis, post infectious arthropathies, post traumatic osteoarthrit

[Molecular pathological diagnostics of infections in orthopedic pathology].

The diagnosis of infections in patients with arthritis and/or in joint prostheses requires interdisciplinary cooperation and the application of up-to-date methods. The histological investigation of the synovial membrane allows the differentiation of acute, chronic and granulomatous synovialitis. Detection of conserved regions of the microbial genome by PCR, especially 16S rRNA for bacteria and 18S rRNA for fungi, is a broad approach for the classification of pathogens which cannot be cultured. Acute infectious arthritis and periprosthetic infections share the spectrum of pathogens with sepsis,

Group G streptococcal arthritis.

Four cases of infectious arthritis due to beta hemolytic streptococci, Lancefield Group G are described. Three patients presented with acute polyarthritis involving unusual sites while the 4th patient had acute monoarthritis. All 4 cases had underlying diseases which predisposed them to infection: alcoholism (2 cases), malignant disease (1 case) and diabetes mellitus (1 case). Three patients had coexistent Group G streptococcal infection: endocarditis in 2 and skin infection in 1. With adequate parenteral antibiotic therapy and frequent joint aspiration, the prognosis for return of normal join

Bone and joint infection.

Bone and joint infections include septic arthritis, prosthetic joint infections, osteomyelitis, spinal infections (discitis, vertebral osteomyelitis and epidural abscess) and diabetic foot osteomyelitis. All of these may present through the acute medical take. This article discusses the pathogenesis of infection and highlights the importance of taking a careful history and fully examining the patient. It also emphasises the importance of early surgical intervention in many cases. Consideration of alternative diagnoses, appropriate imaging and high-quality microbiological sampling is important

Lyme arthritis.

Lyme borreliosis continues to be a significant public health problem. Because of good public education, the incidence of Lyme arthritis and other late-stage symptoms has not increased in tandem with the increases in early infection. There have been major advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis of Lyme arthritis. The understanding of mechanisms of arthritis in Lyme borreliosis may also shed light on the mechanisms of disease in other infectious and noninfectious arthritides.

Infection and arthritis.

The categorization in four classes of association between infection and arthritis (namely infective, post-infective, reactive and idiopathic) seems nowadays to be inadequate to cover the extensive field of interactions between infectious agents and host response resulting in arthritis. This paper is a synthetic review of the subject with particular reference to pathogenetic mechanisms in children. An effort has been accomplished, on the basis of the most recent literature, to define the respective roles of the microbial aggression and the host response in a number of conditions: septic arthrit

[Mono-arthritis of uncertain etiology--a follow-up study].

78 patients in whom the cause of a monoarticular arthritis remained unclear after an initial workup were contacted for a follow-up interview (and an additional clinical examination in 64 cases) after 6 to 11 years (mean 8 years). The mean age at the onset of symptoms was 39 years, with 51% of the patients presenting in the range between 20 and 40 years. There was a slight male preponderance (56%). Large joints, mainly the knee, and less often the wrist, ankle or hip, were affected in 79%. Finger, toe and other small joints were involved in only 21%. During the course of the disease 14% of the

Inflammatory conditions of the pediatric hand and non-inflammatory mimics.

Hand involvement can assume an outsized role in the perception and presentation of disease as a result of functional impairment, visual conspicuity and susceptibility to early structural damage. Rheumatologic referral for inflammatory conditions can be delayed because of assumptions of a traumatic, infectious or neoplastic etiology; conversely, initial rheumatologic evaluation might be pursued for many of the same non-inflammatory causes. This pictorial essay highlights inflammatory conditions affecting the pediatric hand, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, infectious arthritis, systemic

Experimental endocarditis in the rat secondary to septic arthritis induced by Staphylococcus aureus.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a modified model for experimental infective endocarditis (IE) in the rat. The goal was to induce a primary infectious focus in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of a rat. Hematogenous translocation of the bacteria to the traumatized aortic valve was desired. METHODS: Catheterization of the right carotid artery through the aortic valve was performed 7 days after induction of arthritis, which was done by intra-articular injection of glucocorticosteroid (triamcinolone acetonide, 1 mg) and intravenous challenge with 107 CFU Staphylococcus aureus. RESULTS: TMJ arthritis could

Temporomandibular joint septic arthritis: a report of thirteen cases and a systematic review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) septic arthritis is a rare frequently misdiagnosed condition with non-specific symptoms. We present our experience of thirteen cases of TMJ septic arthritis and perform a systematic review of the literature to collate the multiple characteristics of this condition. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A total of 133 cases of TMJ septic arthritis in humans across 62 studies were analyzed by searching PubMed, Cochrane Library, DOAJ and ClinicalTrials.gov using the following search terms: "TMJ septic arthritis," "Temporomandibular septic arthritis," "TMJ infectious ar
