For nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), radiotherapy is the primary treatment. However, complications occur after radiation to the nasopharynx, which could potentially affect the flying safety. Four fighter pilots with NPC were reported. With early to locally advanced NPC, they received radiotherapy with or without concurrent chemotherapy. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare the severity of tinnitus in tinnitus patients with and without hearing loss.
DESIGN AND STUDY SAMPLE: 73 tinnitus patients were included in this study at an audiology clinic in Amman, Jordan. Participants were assigned to two groups according to their hearing status. The severity of tinnitus was evaluated using the Tinnitus Functional Index questionnaire. All participants were interviewed, followed by an otoscopic examination, pure tone audiometry, and tests for admittance and tinnitus matching.

PURPOSE: Our study investigates the effectiveness of aural rehabilitation to decrease depressive symptoms in older adults, and the relationship between hearing loss and depression.
METHODS: A randomized controlled study was conducted at a hearing rehabilitation center with people over 65 years old. Participants were randomly allocated to the intervention group who received hearing aids, or to the control group. Data collection included pure-tone audiometry and a Portuguese version of the Geriatric Depression Scale assessed at two time points: baseline (P0) and after 4-week period (P1).

The threshold of octave masking (TOM) test was administered to normal-hearing and sensorineural-impaired listeners at four test frequencies; 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. Objective : Children with cleft lip and palate or cleft palate only have a high incidence of conductive hearing loss from otitis media with effusion. Studies demonstrating longitudinal results are lacking. This study was undertaken to investigate long-term longitudinal hearing outcomes of children with cleft lip and/or cleft palate and cleft palate only. Design : Retrospective chart review. Setting : Clinical charts of patients born with cleft lip and palate or cleft palate only in 1985 to 1994 who were referred to the cleft team in Bergen, Norway.
