TF-JointMAE: a self-supervised multi-representation EEG learning framework for Alzheimer's disease spectrum classification.

UNLABELLED: Accurate identification of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its early stages, namely subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), is crucial for timely intervention. Electroencephalography (EEG) is widely used for AD assessment due to its non-invasiveness and high temporal resolution; however, its non-stationarity, noise interference, and individual variability make classification more difficult. To address this, this paper proposes a self-supervised learning framework, TF-JointMAE (Temporal-Frequency Joint Masked Autoencoder), that jointly models temporal an

FROG: A Fine-Grained Spatiotemporal Graph Neural Network With Self-Supervised Guidance for Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has demonstrated significant potential in the early diagnosis and study of pathological mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD). To fit subtle cross-spatiotemporal interactions and learn pathological features from fMRI, we propose a fine-grained spatiotemporal graph neural network with self-supervised learning (SSL) for diagnosis and biomarker extraction of early AD. First, considering the spatiotemporal interaction of the brain, we design two masks that leverage the spatial correlation and temporal repeatability of fMRI. Afterwards, temporal gated i

Deep learning of movement behavior profiles and their association with markers of cardiometabolic health.

BACKGROUND: Traditionally, existing studies assessing the health associations of accelerometer-measured movement behaviors have been performed with few averaged values, mainly representing the duration of physical activities and sedentary behaviors. Such averaged values cannot naturally capture the complex interplay between the duration, timing, and patterns of accumulation of movement behaviors, that altogether may be codependently related to health outcomes in adults. In this study, we introduce a novel approach to visually represent recorded movement behaviors as images using original accel

The Curative Effect of Pregabalin in the Treatment of Postherpetic Neuralgia Analyzed by Deep Learning-Based Brain Resting-State Functional Magnetic Resonance Images.

This work aimed to investigate the brain resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technology based on the depth autoencoders algorithm and to evaluate the clinically curative effect of pregabalin in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). In this study, 40 patients with PHN were selected and rolled randomly into a treatment group and a control group (20 cases in each group). Then, a depth autoencoders algorithm was constructed and applied in the brain resting-state fMRI technology. The brains of 40 patients with PHN treated with pregabalin were scanned, and the time cu

Leveraging modality-guided pre-training for dual-prompt-driven multi-cancer PET-CT segmentation.

PET-CT lesion segmentation remains challenging due to heterogeneous lesion appearance, small and dispersed lesions, physiological FDG uptake, and limited annotations. Existing self-supervised methods are mostly designed for unimodal imaging and therefore fail to fully exploit the complementary anatomical and metabolic information in PET-CT. Meanwhile, conventional multi-cancer segmentation strategies often treat different cancer types as a unified task, which weakens cancer-specific features, and existing prompt-based methods still have limited task adaptation and sensitivity to small lesions.

Learning realistic lip motions for humanoid face robots.

Lip motion represents outsized importance in human communication, capturing nearly half of our visual attention during conversation. Yet anthropomorphic robots often fail to achieve lip-audio synchronization, resulting in clumsy and lifeless lip behaviors. Two fundamental barriers underlay this challenge. First, robotic lips typically lack the mechanical complexity required to reproduce nuanced human mouth movements; second, existing synchronization methods depend on manually predefined movements and rules, restricting adaptability and realism. Here, we present a humanoid robot face designed t

Causal circuit tracing reveals distinct computational architectures in single-cell foundation models: inhibitory dominance, biological coherence, and cross-model convergence.

MOTIVATION: Sparse autoencoders (SAEs) decompose foundation-model activations into interpretable features, but the model-internal causal interactions between those features (i.e. what ablating one feature does to the others, as distinct from the biological causal structure of the underlying cells)-and how those model-internal relationships relate to biological structure-are uncharacterized in single-cell foundation models. RESULTS: We introduce model-internal causal circuit tracing-zeroing one SAE feature at a source layer and measuring the resulting change in all downstream SAE features, for

A hierarchical and privacy-preserving intrusion detection framework for SAGIN-enabled IIot using graph neural networks and deep Q-learning.

Space-Air-Ground Integrated Networks (SAGIN) supporting Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications impose stringent requirements on intrusion detection due to node mobility, heterogeneous link characteristics, constrained edge resources, and cross-tier attack propagation. Most standard security methods rely on one main system or some fixed settings that makes it hard to respond quickly when the network changes or when there is not much power. This paper presents HSP-SR, a hierarchical intrusion detection and response framework structured according to the physical segmentation of SAGIN.

A deep learning optimized model for classification and detection of rice leaf diseases.

Food productivity, quantity and quality are at stake when plant diseases such as rice diseases undermine the food security. Rice leaf disease treatment necessitates accurate and timely diagnosing. This study describes a deep learning model for categorizing and forecasting rice plant diseases. Using the remora optimization algorithm (ROA) on a rice leaf dataset demonstrates its potential for plant disease classification. The ROA-DM method detects rice leaf diseases using the ROA algorithm, a deep maxout network (DMN), and a deep autoencoder (DAE). ROA is applied to the learning parameters of de

A Deep Representation Learning Method for Quantitative Immune Defense Function Evaluation and Its Clinical Applications.

The immune defense function protecting the body from invasive pathogens is a key indicator of an individual's health and lacks of methods for quantitative evaluation. This study introduces ImmuDef, a novel algorithm for precisely and quantitatively assessing anti-infection immune defense function based on RNA-seq data. ImmuDef selects immune signatures through comparisons of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or severe sepsis vs. healthy controls (HC) and reduces dimension to construct a latent space via a variational autoencoder (VAE) model (QImmuDef-VAE), a representation deep learnin

Hybrid Feature Learning for Wearable Stress Detection: Combining Domain Knowledge with Supervised Deep Learning.

Accurate stress monitoring is critical for high-risk professions like firefighting, yet existing wearable solutions face challenges balancing accuracy with practical usability. While electrodermal activity (EDA) offers a non-invasive, single-sensor approach, current automated feature extraction methods fail to capture stress-discriminative patterns effectively. We developed a hybrid stress detection pipeline combining 20 hand-crafted physiological features with 32 deep-learned features from a supervised convolutional autoencoder. Unlike traditional unsupervised approaches optimized solely for

Lifelong 3D object recognition and grasp synthesis using dual memory recurrent self-organization networks.

Humans learn to recognize and manipulate new objects in lifelong settings without forgetting the previously gained knowledge under non-stationary and sequential conditions. In autonomous systems, the agents also need to mitigate similar behaviour to continually learn the new object categories and adapt to new environments. In most conventional deep neural networks, this is not possible due to the problem of catastrophic forgetting, where the newly gained knowledge overwrites existing representations. Furthermore, most state-of-the-art models excel either in recognizing the objects or in grasp

Integrating Morphology and Gene Expression of Neural Cells in Unpaired Single-Cell Data Using GeoAdvAE.

Cellular morphological transitions are observed across many diseases, yet their functional role remains unclear because few technologies profile form and function in the same cell. Linking single-cell morphology to transcriptomics is difficult: The two modalities share no feature correspondence and are typically measured in different cells. We present GeoAdvAE, a geometry-aware adversarial autoencoder for diagonal (unpaired) integration of single-cell morphology and single-cell RNA sequencing. GeoAdvAE couples modality-specific variational autoencoders with a Gromov-Wasserstein regularizer and

Outliers and anomalies in training and testing datasets for AI-powered morphometry-evidence from CT scans of the spleen.

INTRODUCTION: Creating training and testing datasets for machine learning algorithms to measure linear dimensions of organs is a tedious task. There are no universally accepted methods for evaluating outliers or anomalies in such datasets. This can cause errors in machine learning and compromise the quality of end products. The goal of this study is to identify optimal methods for detecting organ anomalies and outliers in medical datasets designed to train and test neural networks in morphometrics. METHODS: A dataset was created containing linear measurements of the spleen obtained from CT sc

Using a Disentangled Neural Network to Objectively Assess the Outcomes of Midfacial Surgery in Syndromic Craniosynostosis.

BACKGROUND: Advancements in artificial intelligence and the development of shape models that quantify normal head shape and facial morphology provide frameworks by which the outcomes of craniofacial surgery can be compared. In this work, the authors demonstrate the use of the swap disentangled variational autoencoder to assess changes after midfacial surgery objectively. METHODS: The model is trained on a data set of 1405 3-dimensional meshes of healthy individuals and syndromic patients, which was augmented using a technique based on spectral interpolation. Diversity-driven MG-MAE: Multi-granularity representation learning for non-salient object segmentation.

Masked Autoencoders (MAEs) have grown increasingly prominent as a powerful self-supervised learning paradigm. They are capable of effectively leveraging inherent image prior information and are gaining traction in the field of medical image analysis. However, their application to feature representations of the non-salient objects, such as microvasculature, accessory organs, and early-stage tumors-is fundamentally limited by dimensional collapse problem, which diminishes feature diversity critical for non-salient structure discrimination. To address this, we propose a Multi-Granularity Masked A

Powerful and accurate case-control analysis of spatial molecular data.

As spatial molecular data grow in scope and resolution, there is a pressing need to identify key spatial structures associated with disease. Current approaches typically make restrictive assumptions such as representing tissue regions by local abundances of manually typed, discrete cell types, or representing samples in terms of abundances of manually called, discrete spatial structures; this risks overlooking important signals. Here we introduce variational inference-based microniche analysis (VIMA), a method that combines deep learning with principled statistics to discover associated spatia
