Design and implementation of a 6-DoF robot arm control with object detection based on machine learning using mini microcontroller.

This research presents a novel approach to robotic manipulation by integrating an advanced machine learning-based object detection system on a resource-constrained AMB82-Mini microcontroller. Employing a lightweight, quantized YOLOv7-tiny model, the system achieves real-time object localization with high precision, enabling a 6-DoF robotic arm to perform complex pick-and-place tasks autonomously. The framework incorporates a machine learning-driven perception pipeline that interfaces with a kinematic solver to compute precise joint trajectories, enhanced by adaptive motion smoothing techniques

Learning vision-driven reactive soccer skills for humanoid robots.

Humanoid soccer poses a representative challenge for embodied intelligence, requiring robots to coordinate agile locomotion with unreliable visual perception in dynamic environments. However, existing systems typically rely on modular pipelines that separate perception from control or assume ideal sensing, making it difficult to achieve coherent and reactive behavior under real-world perceptual limitations. In this work, we present a unified reinforcement learning-based controller that enables humanoid robots to learn vision-driven reactive soccer skills by directly coupling visual perception

Monocular absolute depth estimation from endoscopy via domain-invariant feature learning and latent consistency.

Monocular depth estimation (MDE) is a critical task to guide autonomous medical robots. However, obtaining absolute (metric) depth from an endoscopy camera in surgical scenes is difficult, which limits supervised learning of depth on real endoscopic images. Current image-level unsupervised domain adaptation methods translate synthetic images with known depth maps into the style of real endoscopic frames and train depth networks using these translated images with their corresponding depth maps. However a domain gap often remains between real and translated synthetic images. In this paper, we pr

Bio-Inspired Stored Magnetic Energy Actuator with Transient Triggering and Programmable Logic.

Smart actuators generally face the problems of limited response speed, dependence on external energy supply, and lack of multi-environmental signal logic judgment capability. Therefore, this study proposes a new paradigm of bionic magnetic energy actuator, which realizes high-speed autonomous response without external energy source by fusing magnetic transient triggering with programmable environmental logic gating strategy. Based on direct ink writing 3D printing technology, an integrated structure of "magnetic energy storage-environmental unlocking" is constructed by combining the directiona

Adaptive Admittance Control for Robotic Ultrasound Examination Based on a Breast Biomechanical Model.

BACKGROUND: Autonomous Robotic Ultrasound Systems (ARUS) enable standardized breast cancer screening, but accurate breast localization and the nonlinear deformation of soft tissue hinder stable contact-force control. METHODS: We propose a framework integrating visual perception with compliant control. An adaptive gradient-based edge detector extracts the nipple position, and a Variable Damping Admittance Control based on a Breast Biomechanical Model (VDAC-BBM) is developed, which compensates for tissue deformation via a biomechanical prior and dynamically tunes the damping parameter in real t

Autonomous navigation and active perception with complex articulated AUVs.

With the recent progress in underwater robotics, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are increasing their mission capacity and range of applications operating in proximity to underwater infrastructure and closer to the wave zone for data collection and environmental monitoring. Future applications will necessitate more complex articulated systems that will be tasked to operate with increased safety, efficiency, and capacity. In this article, we present a novel motion planning framework for enabling, for the first time, safe autonomous navigation and active perception in high-dimensional arti

Magnetically controlled diatom-based microrobots for targeted drug delivery and combined chemo-photodynamic treatment of glioblastoma.

The potential of micro-nano robots in biomedical applications, especially targeted drug delivery, has drawn much attention. Despite substantial advancements, challenges remain in achieving precise control and effective drug release at target locations. Here, we developed a magnetic biohybrid microrobot using diatom frustules for drug delivery, named Mag-Frustules. Their movement was controlled by a rotating magnetic field, and they exhibited the ability to move against the flow. Deep learning algorithms and adaptive fuzzy PID control were employed to achieve closed-loop control and autonomous

Bio-Templated Ultra-Sensitive Magneto-Plasmonic Photocatalytic Particles Integrated into Soft Robotics.

Plasmonic photocatalysts that combine magnetic maneuverability with visible-light activity offer a promising avenue for autonomous water purification. However, integrating these functionalities into a scalable, reusable architecture remains challenging. Here, we report a mucin-mediated green synthesis of a gold/maghemite heterostructured nanoparticle system. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of spinel γ-Fe2O3 and face-centered-cubic Au, with crystallite sizes of 4.6 ± 0.8 and 25.7 ± 4.3 nm, respectively. STEM-EDS revealed Au-rich nanoparticles distributed on the γ-Fe2O3-mucin scaffold,

M3-RGB: An Imaging Sensor System Using Multicore, Multimode Optical Fiber and Neural Networks.

Conventional image acquisition requires an electrically powered image sensor to be placed directly behind the camera lens, constraining camera placement. To overcome this issue, we introduce M3-RGB as an incoherent-light fiber imaging system in which a multicore, multimode optical fiber passively relays lens images to a remotely located image sensor. Unlike conventional approaches, M3-RGB is designed to operate directly on incoherent light and requires no electrical power or active components at the sensing interface. Because propagation through the fiber yields spatially scrambled patterns, a

Can consumers trust web-based information about celiac disease? Accuracy, comprehensiveness, transparency, and readability of information on the internet.

BACKGROUND: Neurorehabilitation therapies exploiting the use-dependent plasticity of our neuromuscular system are devised to help patients who suffer from injuries or diseases of this system. These therapies take advantage of the fact that the motor activity alters the properties of our neurons and muscles, including the pattern of their connectivity, and thus their functionality. Hence, a sensor-motor treatment where patients makes certain movements will help them (re)learn how to move the affected body parts. But these traditional rehabilitation processes are usually repetitive and lengthy,

Robot-assisted craniotomy.

In the Special Research Centre 414 of the German Research Funding (DFG, Bonn) a system for robot-assisted cranial surgery was developed. It is designed for the accurate and safe execution of craniotomies and repositioning of bone pieces. The system is intended for use in the surgical therapy of craniosynostosis. Preoperatively, CT imaging is performed. In a computerized planning system the position and shape of the intended craniotomy is intuitively planned on a virtual model of the patient's skull. Intraoperatively, after conventional removal of the covering soft tissue, the robot performs th

3D-printed microfluidic integrated magnetic robot for biofluid analysis.

Microfluidic systems hold transformative potential for biosensing and diagnostic applications, yet conventional platforms remain constrained by complex fabrication processes, passive fluid control, and limited automation capabilities. To address these challenges, we develop a 3D-printed microfluidic integrated magnetic robot for autonomous biofluid processing. The additive manufacturing approach facilitates the monolithic integration of a unique unidirectional valve-channel, a pump microcavity, and a microstructured, conductive magnetic diaphragm. This integrated design eliminates complex asse

Research on Trajectory Tracking Control Method for Crawler Robot Based on Improved PSO Sliding Mode Disturbance Rejection Control.

To address the issues of low trajectory tracking accuracy and difficulties in tuning control parameters for crawler robots operating in uneven terrains, this paper proposes a trajectory tracking control method. The method is based on improved particle swarm optimization and sliding mode active disturbance rejection control (SPSO-SMADRC). Firstly, considering the influence of disturbances such as terrain undulations and soil inhomogeneity on trajectory deviation, the kinematic and dynamic models of the crawler robot are established. A vector field guidance approach is employed to transform the

Stochastic Force-based Insertion Depth and Tip Position Estimations of Flexible FBG-Equipped Instruments in Robotic Retinal Surgery.

Vitreoretinal surgery is among the most delicate surgical tasks during which surgeon hand tremor may severely attenuate surgeon performance. Robotic assistance has been demonstrated to be beneficial in diminishing hand tremor. Among the requirements for reliable assistance from the robot is to provide precise measurements of system states e.g. sclera forces, tool tip position and tool insertion depth. Providing this and other sensing information using existing technology would contribute towards development and implementation of autonomous robot-assisted tasks in retinal surgery such as laser

More than surgical tools: a systematic review of robots as didactic tools for the education of professionals in health sciences.

Within the field of robots in medical education, most of the work done during the last years has focused on surgeon training in robotic surgery, practicing surgery procedures through simulators. Apart from surgical education, robots have also been widely employed in assistive and rehabilitation procedures, where education has traditionally focused in the patient. Therefore, there has been extensive review bibliography in the field of medical robotics focused on surgical and rehabilitation and assistive robots, but there is a lack of survey papers that explore the potential of robotics in the e

Sensation without perception: The white whale effect and perceptual blindness in autonomous vehicles.

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) use sensors that exceed human capabilities in resolution and reaction speed, yet a catastrophic failure mode persists: the inability to detect massive, white obstacles (such as semi-trailers) against bright skies. Although engineering analyses attribute these accidents to sensor dynamic range or radar filtration errors, we argue they represent a fundamental failure of perceptual organization. We propose the term "white whale effect" to describe a form of machine visual blindness where high-luminance objects are misclassified as ambient background because of failures i

ZEST: Zero-shot embodied skill transfer for athletic robot control.

Achieving robust, humanlike whole-body control on humanoid robots for agile, contact-rich behaviors remains a central challenge, demanding heavy per-skill engineering and a brittle process of tuning controllers. We introduce ZEST (zero-shot embodied skill transfer), a streamlined motion-imitation framework that trains policies via reinforcement learning from diverse sources-high-fidelity motion capture, noisy monocular video, and non-physics-constrained animation-and deploys them to hardware zero-shot. ZEST generalizes across behaviors and platforms without relying on contact labels, reference

Elective percutaneous stellate ganglion block for prediction of the clinical outcome of robotic bilateral cardiac sympathetic denervation in a patient with Andersen-Tawil syndrome: A case report.

Andersen-Tawil syndrome (ATS) is an ultra-rare channelopathy. We report the case of a 35-year-old woman with genetically confirmed ATS. She experienced sudden cardiac arrest. Her medical history was notable for multiple appropriate implantable cardioverter-defibrillator interventions due to ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Numerous premature ventricular contractions were revealed in 24-h Holter ECG monitoring. The arrhythmic episodes were consistently triggered by physical activity, despite multiple antiarrhythmic therapies and two endocardial ablations. A two-step strateg
